Remembrance March (2024) to commemorate victims of Great Liquidation Action, 1942
Germans started the great liquidation action in the Warsaw Ghetto on 22 July and ended on 21 September 1944. During the two months 300,000 Jewish men and women were transported to Treblinka, an extermination camp in the east of Poland.
This year (2024) the Historical Jewish Institute in Warsaw organised for the 13th time a remembrance march to commemorate victims of the Great Liquidation Action. This year the march was dedicated to five rabbis of the Warsaw Ghetto: Josef Leib Gelernter, Shimon Huberband, Kalonymus Kalman Shapiro, Shimshon Stockhammer and Menachem Ziemba. The rabbis differed in their approaches and understanding of their roles as religious leaders during the war. Some focused on studies and teaching, others were involved in bringing help and/or documenting religious life in the ghetto. But they all shared the need to help others in need.
I share the condensed video from the march as yet another way of commemorating not only the rabbis but also all the people that were exterminated only because they were Jewish.
