May sound weird, but for me, the Yamaha BB series is great because it is the one that best replicates Fender Precision bass and Jazz Bass in a single one.
The GREATEST improvement of this series of Yamaha BB basses is the fact that you can now install aftermarket pickups. The major achilles heel of all BB basses was that Yamaha designed their pickups with their stock design-only components that never allowed you to swap out the pickups with aftermarket upgrades without making some drastic alteration to the pickup cavity on the body..The pre-amp still needs work, but it's tolerable.
Depending on what you're doing though, the BB basses in their stock configuration are plenty sufficient. I've had my BB-425X for 7 years now and the only modification I've done to it was to replace the 3-way toggle switch for a 4-way rotary selector so I can mess with series and parallel wiring configurations. To say it changed how it responds when adding a sprinkle of overdrive to it is a huge understatement...
@@JayLeonardJ Hey Boss! Very happy with the bass for sure. Debating wither or not to through in some DiMarzio Relentless pick-ups. BTW I also have a Revstar Pro Sunset Burst RSP20 that is a nice rig. Real tone monster with the P90s. Just need to get to the point where I can handle it like you do :)
Awesome demo and review, jay 😎🤘🏻🎸 I have a Yamaha bb bass myself along with 2 Yamaha trbx basses and it’s definitely one of the best bass guitars I’ve ever own. I also was planning on purchasing another bb bass(especially since I’m a huge Yamaha fan). Definitely a versatile and underrated bass.
They’re fabulous Basses and although I have ‘better’ Basses the BB will probably my first choice for most gigs …. Unless some producer/bandleader specifies otherwise. 🙄
Because of build and sound quality, and price-point I'm thinking of buying a BB434. However, I heard a BB1024 and the sound is awesome. ...although the weight of the 1024 may be a deterrent. For the 734 that Jay is playing, is it just me or is the body as large as it looks toward the rear? Peace.
It's a nice bass. But it's strange to me that Yamaha made their 'Pro" series BBP34 & 35 basses passive only and these BB734 & 735 active/passive. Doesn't make much sense to me.
Hi jay. I have a question.is the b string solid in sound. Some people criticise this. Iam asking because I was to buy this bass and play in low keys. Kind regards Andy
Definitely come from the 4 string school of bass players. However, this one was meant to be my studio and session bass, where I need to be able to get to those notes when called to. That being said, my brain naturally goes for the old 4 string patterns by default :)
I’m interested to know how the B-string is on this model since I’ve heard from some that it’s a bit weak, an usual problem with the 34’ scale 5 strings. What’s your opinion on the B-string?
It's not true that 34" scale 5 strings have "weak" B strings. I have a Musicman Stingray 5 - a 34" scale bass - and the B string is like dropping a bomb. And it's tight.

The fact that you are having a lot of fun by playing this bass says a lot about how cool it is!

Great review. Been wanting one of these. Probably going to pull the trigger on it now.
Great, as a guitar player I endorse Yamaha bass, I have a BB1100S , yes the good old active / passive one. Great bass, great pickups as well.
Classic Bass. The lineage is pretty close between the two :)
I have a BB734A on the way and I'm sooo ready for it! And I'd say this video along with a few others had something to do with it. Thanks!
Enjoy it! Hope you don't have to wait too long :)

I also have the BB735A it's an amazing bass. Sits so well in the mix with any style of music.
Agreed!
🤟
I have the 4 string version and definitely my favourite Yamaha bass from the other 3 I have.
Excellent! Being a guitar player wanting to learn more about bass, this is great information. Thanks! 👍🎸
I have ten basses and never even tried a Yamaha... looks like it does have some original ideas on it... will have to look at one

Delicious tones! 🔥
Dude I should have mine in a few days it’s in transit now, very excited to get soon
Awesome!!! You'll love the bass, it's a good one!
@@JayLeonardJ tomorrow it’s 1 week old and I love it.

I was thinking the same thing. I feel like an active Pro would be a slam dunk!
Beautiful Bass 😍
Great looking bass!
Dude I ordered mine 3 months ago same color too
Great pic. Really love mine and the color is even more awesome in real life too!
Great video! What is the weight of that bass?

I haven't noticed any issues with my B string in performance. Works great for me :)
@@JayLeonardJ thanks man. Iam buying one as well.i love it .
Great video btw 😁
Sounds pretty good!! hey J,have you ever heard bass in brazilian forro?
Why buy the 5 string to only rest your thumb?

What strings are you using? I have a BB 734a and I want to get a set up for it.
To be honest, I am still rocking the original strings in mine... I kind of like the sound of worn out bass strings :)
Nice!

I see he's playing the b string.....
Timestamps? 😂
Not even full scale neck!
Same scale length as a Fender P Bass. Feels good to me 👍
It is a full scale lol
I see your not a bass player stick to your guitar, hehehe, I have a 725 and a bb1000, they are a capable bass, cheers mate
I see you're an absolute social moron. Why don't you post your bass skills, buddy?
