This is also the reason why they naturally rebelled together with the rest of the Greeks against the Turks. Correspondingly, during the Macedonian War too many Slavic speaking people sided with the Greeks and not with the Bulgarians for the same reason. Those Arvanites were pure Greeks and therefore the Greek state recognized them as such. After all, if they were not Greeks, they would be the first to react to the name of the State as "Greece", without any reference to them, since most of them fought for its independence.
