Kids don't seem to retain what they learn nowadays. I teach 5th grade and the majority of my kiddos don't seem to learn their time stable which delays their ability to multiply multi-digit numbers, long division, fractions, etc

I completely agree!! We are seeing the same at the high school. Students feel like there is no point in learning because they can just google the answer. They can't even remember the formula for the area of a triangle or circle, and we are using those DAILY right now. They have to look it up every time I ask.

I have a question for you about how you handle homework. Right now, I walk the room to make sure the homework has been completed. It takes about a minute. 5 points if there is work shown and an answer attempted for every problem. 3 points if you did half the problems or so. 1 point if I only see that one or two are done. I project the answers on the board after the Bell we go over them briefly and then move into the lesson. If there are questions, I'll answer. This often takes more time than I want. This year we would like to do the function of the day warm up as the do now and I'm not sure how to carve out the 5 minutes it'll take. How do you handle homework review / grades?

After watching my homework video, please let me know if you have other questions! I would love to start a homework discussion.
