What a time to be alive.....I watched him in his prime time on black and white TV....what an athlete. He represented us very well.🇳🇦now we have Christine Mboma representing us again🇳🇦
Yep, he is still underrated and probably forgotten, somebody put out a list of top 200m runners and his wasnt on it. Africa's all time greatest sprinter.this man once perform Jan to Oct or Nov? he concluded it by winning the African Games sprint double.
1996, I was 6 years old,... when Frank Fredericks used to run, the whole neighborhood would be glued to their television 📺... WATCHING THEIR HERO.... just as we do to Mboma, but now for her is both TV 📺 and smartphone 📱 (Facebook/RUclips)... 😂 🤣 😅
No knocking Fredrick he’s amazing. But Johnson had a bad race when Fredrick had a better one in a prechampionship race. Johnson delivers on his statements at the end.
Loved watching Frankie and Michael! Frankie was number 2 always if he justttt had that little bit more, we might not be talking about Michael Johnson so much today!!!
You guys who are sprinters will understand the importance of this race being contested on one of the few 6 LANE, outdoor tracks where IAAF meets were held. This is not an 8 Lane or 9 lane track. Therefore, the sharpness of the curve makes a BIG difference. As of about 2004 or so, any IAAF outdoor meet MUST be held on a track with a minimum of 8 LANES or more.
Johnson gave Frederick's 2 to 3 10ths at the start. Good win for Frederick's but the fact Johnson nearly caught him at the finish was a sign of what was to come.
Always been a mystery why there appears to be no video of that race, especially since it was run in March of 2000. Still, it exists, bc someone split it at 10.68/9.43/10.74, so that turn must've been a sight to see. The other one that doesn't appear to be out there is the 1990 4x2 anchor leg at Texas Relays (18.5). I asked MJ on Twitter if he had it, and he said only a grainy VHS tape at his parents house.
@@johnbyrnes1543 Facts I've been looking for footage of that race for like 10 years lol. I also wanna see the 92 US Olympic Trials 400m final where Danny Everett ran 43.81. Another classic I've never seen before.
As least MJ is always a professional and understands humility unlike Sha’Carri Richardson with her sh*t talking post-race after finishing last and her “Do you miss me?” Tweet during the Olympics. MJ actually pointed out the strange SR tweet.
Michael, was not peaking in his roids at this event. You don’t take .3 off a world record at the olympics just randomly. He peaked. And he was a physical monster. He was a hero of mine, but looking back. Come on man. This was a peak time for steroid usage. He took this loss and then cut .3 off the world record a couple months later. No one touched that record for decades. Then he just beats it and then .3 off just like that? Atleast with Usain Bolt, he progressively got better from race to race and drove his time down. It was shocking to see 9.58, but he did that over a two year stretch. Johnson did it in months...

Most underrated in his time. Team Fredricks🇳🇦
This guy is a legend. I was super young watching these, but we all knew Frankie Frederick’s name!
Me too, I was a small Asian kid who didn't even know where's Namibia supported him throughout his career. He got something special.
So underated, just keep in mind Mr Frederick that we, Namibians still proud of you!🇳🇦
At least Michael took a loss with a smile, greatness... Frankie the unsung hero of athletics.
Fredericks is so underrated and under appreciated. He was also a great 100M sprinter.
He also had a very cool and calm personality. Such a role model for Namibia and the world.
Absolutely, I remember a race where he was if in lane 8 and surprised everyone in the race, including the favorites.
Fredericks in my opinion is one of the best technical runners of all time.
@@geraldillo i agree.

What an athlete. A sprinting legend. He raced them all. Just a great human being. Namibia should be proud and blessed to have Frankie Fredericks.
Son of the soil 🇳🇦🇳🇦🇳🇦
Is so my sister
Now you got Mboma
@@Kwasi1790 indeed now we got the daughter of the soil
Seems Johnson back then had a sizeable ego and its evident from his reaction to Frankie attempting to shake his hand.
Johnson's best year in 200m and Fredericks beat him twice, before and after Atlanta.
I'm so proud of Frank Fredericks, the Brave Ambassador to whole world.

His Achievements were Equal if not superior ,to Usain Bolt's ( My Opinion ) John
You can't compare one of the greats to Greatest Of All Time
No, you just can't.
That commentator Larry has a VERY annoying voice!
Johnson runs 19.32
fredericks can't catch up to him.
