Sincere condolences to Vic's family and all who knew and loved him. Fortunate to have seen Vic jam alongside Larry Coryell at the Blue Note in NYC a couple of years ago with my son who studied under Vic at Mason Gross. Thank You Maestro!
I saw an RIP an wondered about this guitarist. I'm very sorry I didn't discover him until now. I like the idea of telling people thanks in a letter or in person when I'm really impressed or inspired by their music and musicianship. I'm sorry I never got the chance to do that with this guy. I just love his whole approach to his music and style. Wow! A great player! 10 out of 10. RIP Vic and thank you.
He didn’t just teach guitarists . I used to bring my marimba to his home for private study . What a difference he made in my musicianship . A very bright and giving man . I would go to his local shows . He played in a trio at Wallace’s in Orange for years . They would let me sit in on drums . Vic’s command and chops were stunning . He’s gone far too soon . RIP Vic .
What years did you go see him at Wallace's? We probably met. I used to be there on the regular on those monday nights. I used to go see him with Ron Davis (R.I.P.) on drums and Rick Crane on Bass. That was "89 thru '90.
RIP Vic Love You
Vic was like no other. Metheny was in awe of him for good reason. I am so blessed to have studied with him. RIP my dear friend and mentor.
