Amazing footage! Thats the first time I have seen my grandfather TP Mulligan playing the fiddle! Class altogether! Jean Carignan is one of my all time favourite fiddle players! amazing to think he was playing with my grandfather and John Kelly and friends

It's great to see your grandfather in the places he held court too Aoife, the Horseshoe and the Four Seasons. I sold him his Bb/F Jeffries in that shop!

In the '70s, when Seamus Tansey still lived there and the Coleman Country Society was still actively protecting their regional style of music, I used to go to Gurteen at least once every year (for the Coleman Memorial, if nothing else). So I met Jean Carignan on his Michael Coleman pilgrimage to Gurteen and Killavil - and wondered at how he'd mastered Coleman's style so well from his assiduous studying of the one 78rpm disc that he originally had of him...

I haven't been able to verify this but: I've been told that T-Jean didn't read music. The person informed me that he would listen to recorded music for the first time during the day rehearse it, and then play it publicly that same night.

Ti Jean a legend in his own right Its great he idolised the great greatest Michael Coleman the great Co Sligo fiddler whose music was magical ,but contained an element of loneliness and abandonment but beautiful Coleman is unsurpassed

Ti-jean was an extremely talented musician. I didn't know he had been to Ireland. Is there any more footage of his trip? I played in Cape Breton with Gilles Lozier, a pianist that played a lot with Jean.

Yes, he was very talented! I don't know about any more footage. It would be great if it was broadcast again!
