- Bass cover of The Diary of Jane from the album Phobia by Breaking Benjamin. This song is in Drop Bb tuning which marks the first time I have ever had to drop tune my 5 string bass. I reformatted the Guitar Pro tab again for this video which is more presentable than the last tab. The software is actually pretty easy to use so I think I'll purchase it after my free trial is over. This is a sleeper, when you let someone who’s never really listened to the bass line before hear it they are always surprised at how much it makes this song what it is. That being said I absolutely love the sound of drop tuning but I hate to have to do it 😂

Hello! Usually I listen to a combination of the recording and live versions to figure out the bass line. Some songs have the isolated bass track on RUclips which makes my job much easier, but for most songs that's not always the case. I also sometimes look up other bass covers to see other bassists' take on songs. Hope this helps!

Awesome cover. But question. How the hell do you play in drop a sharp on 5 string bass ?? Do you tune the top string down half a step and the rest of the strings half a step up ?? Would they not break from the tension ? Or what gauge strings do you use ? I’m over thinking this massively but it’s messing my head up and need some sort of closure/advice on the topic
Correct I tuned the B down a half-step and everything else up a half-step. I don't feel like a half-step will mess up the tension too much, tbh I don't really notice those kinks lol

Hey dude did you change the pick up in this SUB or is it all stock?
Using the stock pickup from the SUB Ray5. I would say the main components of my tone are the Tech 21 Sansamp & Elixir bass strings.

@@jasongrace4200 Pretty much all 5 string basses are pretty heavy so I avoid using this bass for any gigs or band practices. The weight of the 4 string is fine though haha.
Sir how do you obtain license to publish this cover.
You don't need to get a license to post covers but the video will get flagged for 3rd party content (the backing track). Basically ads will just run on my video or worst case scenario my video is blocked, but most of my covers I can post without issues

Look up Drop A# that may help. But basically it's Eb tuning but a 5 string. Hope this helps!

Currently I don't have PDF support for my site so I can't upload the PDF yet. I'm redesigning my site again so once that is done I'll add the tabs there. For this specific song I have the regular tab up on my site if needed!

Tab in 4 string but you playing on 5 string🤔🤔🤔
Haha yeah that's true. The reason is because the song is in Drop Bb tuning which is low. The lowest string on a 5 string is a B so I actually had to tune down my B string to play this song. I would not be able to play this song tuning down one of my 4 string basses, the strings would not have nearly enough tension. Hope this helps!
