    I am from Brasil and I really have to thank you. You tried Brazilian snacks but actually gave it a shot, not like other people... It amazes me how you get out of your comfort zone and do it honestly. Keep up the brilliant work!!!!

    The filling in the Tortuguita you tried was Brigadeiro flavour.
    Brigadeiro is a sweet brazilian treat that is basically made of condensed milk with cocoa powder that you cook util thickens and after you let it cool you cover it in sprinkles. It's delicious!

    Calipso is also sold by Nestlé in Europe, at least here in France.
    Paçoca is normally made of roasted peanuts, sugar and salt, that's why it's often crumbly.
    Cocada (Cocadinha) is made of shredded coconuts caramelized with sugar, that's why it's sticky and dark brown.
    Tortuguitas normally have rice flakes, the one you had had chocolate sprinkles, which, to be honest, mostly taste like sugar.
    Doce de leite is condensed milk that was cooked for much longer until its sugars started to get brown.
    Overall after moving abroad I realized that in Brazil we add lots of sugar to everything. :p

    Hi, dear. My husband and I really like your videos. That cocadinha you had is actually pure coconut. We call it côco queimado - something like burnt coconut. There's nothing added, maybe some sugar after removing from the heat.
    I'd like to ask if you want to exchange some more treats. We live in the very South of Brazil and we have some more interesting stuff rather than the ones you've tried. So we could send you some and you could send us some of yours. We'd love to make a video too.
    Keep trying wordly edibles.

    Ohhh Lovely Video! I'm glad you liked it! 1) Tomorrow Brazil soccer team is going to play in Salvador, that is the capital city of Bahia ;). We have dark cocada and the white one around here, but these ones sooo good and very traditional. 2) The filling of the tortuguita is supposed to be "Brigadeiro", a traditional Brasilian candy, but I'm sure that is not as delicious as the homemade one (that is made with condensed milk, cocoa powder and butter, covered with Chocolate sprinkles).3) Paçoca (and cocada) are also very tradicional here, the paçoca Amor is very old and popular here. These sweets, along with pumpkin and sweet potato candy are a must in our traditional "Festa Junina", festivities in June done in schools, churches, street, with lots traditional food and dancing that celebrate Saint John and Saint Antony days.

    to really taste the original texture of the chocolate fillings, you should keep them at room temperature cuz most of them are creamy and sometimes actually quite runny.
    also, the coconut candy was brown because of the "burned" sugar, there is also a white version and some places you can find passion fruit flavored as well.

      Also, there are a lot of tortuguita flavors. The one in the video is brigadeiro. I think the original is with vanilla filling.

    Tortuguita

  • @martinvansanten4417
    @martinvansanten4417 9 лет назад

    emmymadeinjapan Hi! The "tortuguita" candy is in fact Argentinian, Arcor is an Argentinian brand, and it is even in Spanish, tortuguita means little turtle (I believe turtle in Portuguese is something like tortaga). Oh and doce de leite (dulce de leche in Spanish) is consumed in the south of Brazil due to its closeness with Argentina, it comes from Argentina (supposedly) and it is basically burned milk with sugar, and it is way more delicious than caramel (which is burned sugar). Love you and your videos, keep it up!

    • @phelps6205
      @phelps6205 9 лет назад +2

      yes tortuguita its a argentinian candy, but its very common in brazil, turtle in portuguese its tartaruga, and doce de leite its not just common in south of brazil, I live in the northeast and its very common in the farm area and flavor of ice creams cookies and others stuff.

    Calipso is the best of all them!! SOOO expensive! and you cannot find it in any supermarket around Brazil..
    We like tortuguita more for the "ritual" envolved, then for how it tastes. It has many flavors, but it really doens't matter, you know? you need to eat the head and the legs, then you go to the body. It's magical! hahah

    Emmy, when we eat the Tortuguita candy, we always eat the little legs, arms and head before eating the rest! We all do it since we're little kinds until we're 90 years old! lol it's a "tradition"

    Awwww Emmy, it makes me so happy when you eat stuff from here! I'm glad you liked our stuff!
    But when eating Tortuguita, we have a kind of a ritual, everyone eats it the same way: the head, the paws and the tail first and then the body! hahaha
    Can't wait for you to taste Pão de Queijo and Brigadeiro too!

    Hi Emmy! I just "met" you and your channel and I'm loooooving it!
    Subscribed already!! Btw, the coconut (cocadinha da Bahia) is darker because is a burned coconut candy.
    And the "Tortuguita" (the chocolate turtle) has a "ritual" that we, Brazilians do: you must start eating the paws, then the head, and then the shell.. hahaha, it's a "playful candy". And FYI, the inside is filled with "brigadeiro" our " Brazillian candy pride" made with chocolate and crunchy chocolate.
    Hope you could understand me. Loved your videos and channel.
    Greetings from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. :)
