Probably my favorite story in Basketball history. Some of you may recognize the original script, but I promise it ain’t many, because the video bombed the first time. With Conley winning the award, and with so few people knowing the details about it, I thought it was worth giving this thing an update. Are Twyman and Stokes appreciated enough??
Watched the first video but still sat and watched this through again, incredibly story and Jacks acceptance speech on behalf of Stokes when he was entered to the HOF is a great video for those who haven’t watched it (I imagine there are very few who have).
It would have been a great movie for the 90s or early 2000s, but not nowadays. They would find some where to make it ALL about race instead of some race stuff, but 90% about the man and the people that loved him.
ERNIE knew this story for sure, maybe he didnt knew some details like Jack paying his bills ...everyone that watches basektball over 40 knows this story..i am 46 and i know this story since i was a kid...and i am not even american..
Everytime I heard about the story of Jack Twyman and Maurice Stokes, I always want to cry especially when Mr. Twyman became Mr. Stokes’ guardian. Despite that they have different race, they are always like a brother. I remember when I watched the movie “Maurie”, Mr. Twyman really love Mr. Stokes so much until when Mr. Stokes return to Cincinnati when he honored before the Royal game. I tell you what, I’m really cried about when the PA announcer called his name and crowd goes crazy. I’m very honored that we have a great player and a great human being just like Mr. Jack Twyman. They are probably the basketball version of Gale Sayers and Brian Piccolo. Rest In Peace Mr. Twyman and Mr. Stokes.
Maurice Stokes was a great player who’s career ended too soon. this man was like Bill Russell with better passing skills. when we think of the greatest what ifs….we think of Hill, Hardaway, Walton (the greatest what if imo), Roy and Bias. Stokes deserves to be in that list. similar to Bill even though their career/prime was short you could see the greatest in that short span.
Yep, u got me Jonny 😢 it cracks my wife up how some of these sports stories get to me but none of her sappy movies do. Again, great videos my dude! Keep 'em coming
Johnny, The first time you told this story it did NOT bomb. You got my attention, and if you got my attention I am more intelligent than yesterday because of it, so thank you. This story is beautiful and probably the best there is when it comes to athletes taking care of teammates, family, and friends. I wish more athletes like these existed in today’s generation.
Glad you enjoyed it!! When I say “bombed”, I just mean it in terms of how many views it got. I think it ended up with like 7k views, and my channel average is like 20-40k. Honestly, I’m just determined to get as many people as possible to hear this story, just because it’s so uplifting :)
Needless to say...GREAT STORY...and you told it well. A very touching piece. Stokes was before my time, but I was familiar with his relationship with Twyman & the Kutcher County Club in The Catskills & the charity event. The naming of the gym was news to me. Thanks for the memories. No question, your the best.
Great video Jonny. Jack is a genuine role model when it comes to athletes. Fantastic human being. Got me watching his Hall of fame induction, Jack Twyman giving the speech. Incredible, much respect.
This story just gives faith in humanity. All we ever hear about is the horrific race relations from days gone by (as we should learn about and learn from). Stories like this need to be heard by everyone. Cheers everybody!
Excellent video, Jonny! I learned about Twyman and Stokes from your video. I love the original video and this one. It is beautiful and moving and among your best videos. I am deeply moved by Twyman and Stokes' story. Thank you for sharing. Have a nice rest of the week! God bless :).
How does this not have more likes? Wtf wrong with people? Good story, good video, keep digging for the one's that people forgot about cause these stories and history should never be forgotten.
What an inspiring story, and once again people who think that the 50s and 60s were just decades with plumbers, there is the answer, this guy could have very well be in the Goat conversation
Just considering the fact that this is happening in the 50's and early 60's when the racial bias was on another level makes this story way more amazing!
What I love most is that this transcends the racial issues, especially back then. We are human beings first, races, cultures, religions, etc., second and on down the line. Let's be united by our love of basketball but also a love for the diversity and beauty that is us as people. Great video Jonny!
Maurice Stokes finished a game after suffering a life threatening injury, Willis Reed tried to play through a torn ACL, and Wilt won a FMVP with a broken shooting hand. Nowadays guys don’t play through minor injuries even in the playoffs
Man, you’re a real one! This video bombs every time. I keep tweaking it and changing up the thumbnail and updating the footage, but it doesn’t seem to matter. This is the last time I’ll update it. Just sad that people don’t care about such an awesome story. We need more uplifting stuff like this.
Jesus paid the price for sin on the cross and rose from the dead 3 days later. Repent of your sins and put your faith in Jesus Christ alone. He is our Lord and Savior. Repenting means asking God for forgiveness and turning away from our sins. Sin is any evil act that goes against God's law such as lying, stealing, taking God's name in vain, sexual immorality, and having idols above God. God provided a way out of going to Hell by sending Jesus to die for whoever will repent and put their faith in him. It isn't too late to turn to Jesus.

I remember watching this video, but no problem sharing it all over again!
Really not a fan of these "updates" of previous videos.
you forget to mention that SUBMARINE foul was really common those days and in almost every game you would see that type of foul...
The fact that Ernie Johnson didn’t know this story for a while is crazy. Tells you how unknown it is. We need a movie about it!!!!!!
It would have been a great movie for the 90s or early 2000s, but not nowadays. They would find some where to make it ALL about race instead of some race stuff, but 90% about the man and the people that loved him.
There was a movie made about it. “Maurie” made in 1973. It’s pretty melodramatic, but worth watching.
ERNIE knew this story for sure, maybe he didnt knew some details like Jack paying his bills ...everyone that watches basektball over 40 knows this story..i am 46 and i know this story since i was a kid...and i am not even american..

This is a true story of human kindness and perseverance. Thank you @Jonny Arnett for bring be this story. It is now my favorite of basketball history.

I saw this a few days ago and I immediately thought of Jonny. 🔥
While I knew about this story, it still touches the heart no matter how many times I hear it. My respects to these two greats.

One of the most heartwarming stories in the history of sport. They should make a move like they did with Brian's Song.
#MambaMentality
Awesome story. Never heard it before. Thanks for sharing, and keep up the great content Jonny.
I heard this story a few months ago but there were some details here I didn't know. Great story & tragic event

Thank you for sharing. I was not aware of all these details to the story.
I wish this gets a great movie!
Love this story every time it comes up. Thanks for the watch

He was a rebounding machine, averaging 17 boards a game in his 3 year career
Genuinely an incredible story

im crying inside a bus now, thanks man
I remember the first time I heard this story. Definitely one of those “try not to cry” moments for sure
If you reupload this 10 more times, I'll watch every single one and weep every single time
Wow... Thanks for sharing!

Can you make a video about how Jokic’s legacy has changed and where he ranks all-time for you with his recent MVP?
Maurice Stokes finished a game after suffering a life threatening injury, Willis Reed tried to play through a torn ACL, and Wilt won a FMVP with a broken shooting hand. Nowadays guys don’t play through minor injuries even in the playoffs
Luka, KCP, and Murray are playing though injuries rn at this very moment

the story behind IBM Award
The Royals could have beat the Celtics possibly more than twice. The Royals with Robertson were already a major roadblock for them.

Jack Twyman. Pittsburgh Central Catholic high school.🙏
A story I’ve never heard before! Stokes couldn’t catch a break, truly a tragedy.
3:15 the guy he's guarding is 50 years old. LOL. They really let anyone play back in the day. If you showed up to training camp, you made the team.
how do you watch this video and that’s your main takeaway
The story is a great one and I always love hearing it, but this is your third time covering it...
🤣 He just wants to pump out content
