Morrigan's Cottage is a 200 year old traditional stone cottage set in the west of Ireland on just under 4 acres. Originally this house would have been used by the local farmers, rented from their British landlords. Dated back to at least the early 1800s, someone has been consistently living here and farming this land since then, up until about 4 years ago when the house was left vacant by the previous owners.

Thankfully Rosie is back to her normal self, I forgot to put the update in the video! And we finally, FINALLY free the doorway… nearly!
Hi Aisling I hope puppy is back to normal, what was it??? The kibble ? I do think since you are waiting at least you can do the bits and bobs that will need tackled, as for videos I think do what's good for you as I watch all day long lol. When you look at what the last people done to the house it really was a cowboy job as even that doorway was never insulated, the heat loss would be crazy had you not of found it, and was that a leak in where the boiler is as looked wet around the bottom left. Keep an eye on that and it def sounds like a huge Airlock. anyway another week and you done a good bit plus a wee bit of a sunburn so at least good bit of Vitamin D . Take care and love sent as always to you all. Dede xxxxxx
Hi Dede ❤️ big hugs from me and the girls to you ❤️ thankfully Rosie is all better, I forgot to put an update in! She’s back to her normal self and growing like a weed! I think she was intolerant to her kibble she hasn’t been sick again since we switched her :) it really was a cowboy job done on the house…. But we’ll get there right?! ❤️
@@morrigans_cottage Hi Aisling well I am delighted to hear Rosie is good, and they do grow so fast, my Daughter has a Golden lab Max 10 months old and looks like a donkey lol, And yes you will get through it as that little determined face you have when you get started says it all. lol, Have a great week one and all, Hugs Dede xxxxx
@@TheAwakeningangel oh my goodness I LOVE golden labs they are beautiful doggos inside and out ❤️ they really do grow quick, Rosie is nearly the size of Morri now!! You two have a lovely week - it’s gotten so cold and rainy!!!
@@morrigans_cottage I am sitting with a hot water bottle and the electric heater on, like the one you have in the cottage, really are rubbish heat wise lol, xxxxx
@@TheAwakeningangel they really don’t give much heat, a hot water bottle is lovely tho, and if you haven’t got one I’d definitely recommend an electric blanket!
Hi Ais. Please don’t worry about the “mowing the lawn” type comments. Dawn & Ben had loads of cranky comments about their major garden cleanup project. Now they have almost 20k subs
There’s no way to win except by being true to yourself. That’s what really matters
BTW, the grass looks amazing. Hope puppy feels better ✌️💚
I loved Dawn and Ben’s clean up videos it was so nice to see the start to finish! Maybe I’m a tiny bit sensitive the comments can just seem a little cranky and then I feel bad that the video is boring 😂 but it seems most people are ok with the videos anyway!!
Hope you’re doing well Morri and I are sending all our best wishes 💚
P.s. congrats on 2k subs...yay
And thank you! I have about 1999 more subs that I ever thought I’d have 😂 but I love this little community I’ve learned so much from it and made some really lovely online friends including Mr FF and yourself ❤️
Hi, I would love to have that pond,I would keep ducks, they would enjoy the pond.
I definitely plan on getting ducks in the future :)
Book your plumber etc aas soon as possible ,, impossible to get at the moment. At least you can get qquotes and get on their waiting lists
It’s so hard to get booked in with people I agree! The plumbers have about a month wait list that I’ve been talking to so it hopefully isn’t too bad but as soon as I have an idea on a date for grant inspection I’ll be getting the works booked in :)
So glad you are opening up the original doorway 😊 it doesn't feel right to me having doors sealed up. Hope you have some grant news soon 🤞
Fingers crossed grant news in the next 2-3 weeks - if not I might cry 😂 it feels good to open up the old doorway, it’s the original doorway so it just doesn’t feel right to have it closed off! Love from me and the furbabies ❤️
Quick question. I am curious as to why you didn't empty the house of all the junk like the busted tv, old tables etc when you had the skip? Your life would be much easier if you emptied the place instead of just moving stuff all the time. A couple of strong bins for when you demolish walls would mean no double handling of debris into flimsy bags. This might help you a bit. Been there done that lol... not picking just suggesting things to make life easier.
Absolutely appreciate the advice! The priority was to clear the trash pile before the colder/rainer weather comes in, the furniture in the house doesn’t really bother me at all, it will have to go once the Reno starts properly but for now it’s ok. The grant I’ve applied for will cover the cost of skips for anything house related, so I’ll be able to claim back costs of future skips for anything in doors as well :) I’ll definitely get some stronger bins to help clear the inside stuff too, the plaster bags don’t help at alll 😂
Hi Aisling. If all you have to show is grass cutting that's fine. Some things have to be done when the weather allows. Do what you need to and ignore the moaners. Some people are only happy when they have something to moan about! As for the trash pile, when Mother Nature does what she does best and reclaims the land it might be a nice cool calm place to sit on a hot day. Maybe a little seat in there. Keep going and I look forward to whatever you show us
That’s so true, sometimes what needs to get done is boring and repetitive, ice just gotten a couple comments recently and people didn’t seem happy with the uploads - not a lot just one or two, but was worried maybe I was annoying people with my uploads! I think a nice little seating/nature area would be lovely. Most of the trees there will be coming down as they are damaged and not in a good way, and the plan is to plant some native Irish trees and hedging, making a nice little seating area and a good access point to the pond - altho the frogs will be back soon 😂
I think you are doing an amazing job and I look forward to your videos. Keep up the great job. Thank you for sharing your story.
Thank you that’s so kind of you to say, I’m an over thinker and just a little worried me cutting grass for the 10000000 time would be boring to watch, but I’m so glad to hear you’re enjoying it ❤️
@@morrigans_cottage not at all it’s part of the upkeep. Keep up the good work
@@1MWindsor thank you ❤️❤️
Poor sweet Rosie, hope she's feeling better. I was thinking about your rubbish pile and it's lucky that they didn't hurl it all in the pond! so it could have been worse. Another thing I was wondering about is the bee situation, have they gone now? My bees left the bird boxes about 2 months ago. ❤
Rosie is all better now and doing so well! A change of food seems to have done the trick :) the bees are still around - at least when I last looked about 2 weeks ago! I’d presume with the colder weather the maybe will move on? I really don’t know though but I am hoping the leave soon id like to start using my sheds 😂 and I’m so glad and very hopeful there’s no trash in there 🥲😂
Hey sweetie I’m hoping that’s by now they have contacted you ,,It’s really exciting . I can’t wait to see how you style the cottage. Love and hugs
Still no news, probably won’t hear anything until about mid October, but that’s ok we’ll just keep plucking away! Lots of hugs from me and the girls ❤️
Book your electrician & plumber now! We will wait a long time for any GOOD tradesmen!
I can’t book anyone yet until the grant gets the thumbs up, the electrician and plumbers want deposits so I can’t give any more over until the grant comes through but I will book them the minute the grant gets the thumbs up :)
Hi Rosie! The skip was jam packed - great! It will be good to get a digger in for the garbage pile but it's much less than it was before. Good work on getting the plaster board down - next video you'll BREAK THROUGH to the office side haha! I'm curious to view what the fireplace will look like on the bedroom side.
Yes really looking forward to getting another skip and a digger in to finish the clear out! Probably won’t be until next summer now but at least a start has been made! It was great to break through the plaster, I have removed more and we seem to be missing a fireplace 😂😂 little Rosie is doing so well now ❤️
Keep chatting away! Any progress is good it all takes time.😊
Thank you! I will keep the chat going at least I never stop yapping!!
Love what you are doing, your sure not afraid of hard work.
Thank you so much! It is hard work for sure but it’s actually kinda enjoyable! Maybe that feeling won’t last though 😂
Poor baba Rosie but am glad to know she's better now after a change of food. I'm content to watch whatever videos you put out when you can and I know how much time it takes to edit, upload etc so you do what works best for you. Sending furriest hugs from us to you and all the girlies. ❤
Thankfully Miss Rosie is back to her normal self and bouncing around the house as we speak! A change of food was all that was needed it seems! I’m glad everyone seems ok with the content, I figure grass cutting gets old and I don’t want to bore everyone to pieces with it 😂
Awwwww poor puppy, glad she's on the mend. Just keep chipping away and soon things will move much quicker, I'm sure. I will always be watching and learning from you 😊
Awh thank you so much, I was a bit worried I was putting too much repetition on there until the real Reno starts up! Happy to report Miss Rosie is thriving again, we switched her food and she’s been doing amazing since ❤️
I'm kind of lost here. What are you doing when you're going room to room, tearing off the plaster? Are you going to re-insulate? The lawn is really very pretty and green. I wish you could get more people to help you. Much love from Oklahoma USA Jackie 🇺🇸💖
Hi Jackie! Hope you’re keeping well! So I’m opening up the doorway so that there’s a walk through from the main bedroom to what will be the office, and it also means it’s easier to get to the bathroom from the bedroom as well :) the rest of the room will be insulated as there’s none at the moment! Lots of love from me and the furbabies ❤️
You need a herd of guinea pigs, they would strip that grass in no time 🤣🤣🤣 x
Oh my goodness can you imagine Guinea pigs running around the place 😂😂 I love it!!
I enjoy seeing you every week. (And Morrigan of course).
Morri really is the star of the show! I was worried that maybe the videos are too repetitive or boring and not worth peoples time until the Reno happens but I’m glad to hear you enjoy the mundane stuff with us ❤️
I would like to see all of you’re videos no matter what you’re doing
Thank you! I am really hoping proper work will be started soon and then I’ll have some really interesting things to show, but I appreciate you watching even the slower stuff!
Would love for you to keep your videos regular, look forward to them, I don't mind the grass cutting😂 Some people need to be entertained all the time, so if they don't like it they should push off!!
I’m really glad to hear you look forward to watching them and enjoy them! I felt bad if I was wasting peoples time by showing the same old kinda footage but glad to hear you’re enjoying and don’t mind ❤️
Its lovely that you are checking in with us,and look forward to whatever you are doing.
Thank you so much for following along :) I’m not the best at this RUclips thing so I just want to make sure I’m not wasting anyone’s time when they come to watch a video :) ❤️ hopefully there will be more movement on the actually renovation in the next 2-3 weeks 🤞
Hey from Ontario!!
My husband said you might have to much air in the water tank.
I think he was fixing it virtually 😅
We just love the cartoon effect of you mowing the lawn 😅.
You need Benny Hill music....lol.
Love, love, love your videos !!
Hugs to all ❤❤❤
Hello to you and hubby in Ontario ❤️ I appreciate he was fixing it virtually! I think I’ll be getting a whole now water system in, from well to tank to toilet etc so hopefully I won’t have these problems in the future! So glad to hear you’re enjoying the videos ❤️ thanks so much for the tips and kind comment ❤️
Keep the videos coming. We understand you are limited in what can be done until the grant comes through. And, it is interesting to see the land responding to the cutting.
Ah thank you! I am glad to hear it’s not too boring or repetitive! I’m glad you’re enjoying and the grass is really growing back well, so hard to maintain!! ❤️
Welcome from Malakwa BC Canada
Sweetie if you need to cutting more grass and we want to watch, we will. If we have problems with seeing you cut do much grass, then we can always watch something else. Will, wink, nudge, nudge. 😊😊
I think a big metal rake would help you.
Also, I love your Hozier shirt!❤
I am also wondering if you really do need a small wood stove , maybe. That sort of heat banishes dampness the best. I have wood heat and baseboard heaters in my home.
Hello yo Malakwa! I absolutely love BC, but I have to admit I stuck to the bordering towns with Grande Prairie, AB and did go to Kelowna once but I wished I had of travelled more in Canada when I lived there, so beautiful! Glad to hear that maybe watching grass won’t be too bad, there’s been a few comments lately with some unhappy about the content so I jus wanted to make sure I wasn’t boring anyone and wasting anyone’s time! Metal take definitely going on the list! I do have a plastic one but it’s not brilliant!
Looks like your following has increased, so my advice would be to continue twice a week. It is always nice to hear what is going on.
My brother built me a bookcase that opens like a door. You would not know it was a door. You might look into that for the bedroom.
And you learned a lot about the land. That is a definite plus! Take care
Oh that’s so cool he built that, I’ve definitely been looking at videos on how to do that because I think it would be a good fit for my room! Lots of little wins happening, hopefully some bigger ones to come :)
Not a big priority, but if you get a bag of coarse sand from your hardware store & mix it with some soil from the land you can fill those divots as you go, just tempt down with your foot & throw in some grass seeds. Just a small thing but that’s a large area of grass to manage, so easier it is the better. It’s also something you can do as a routine when you mow. So easy to sprain an ankle on one of those divots, & if you get a ride in mower it’s so much safer! Cheers to you, hope the grant info comes soon! 😊
Oh that’s a good idea!! I have 100% fallen multiple times from the holes!! If the weather isn’t too rainy this weekend I’ll get that started because it’s a total pain having the divots! I’m hoping I should be hearing from the grant people in the next 2-3 weeks fingers crossed!
It's a good thing you have walls to remove, doors to find, grass to cut and some air in the water line to keep you occupied while waiting for the grant😅
Fingers crossed for major grant news soon!🎉
There is a lot to do still with the house, I’m just very cranky that there’s been no news on the grant and it’s getting really cold again and I’ve no heating 😂 but we’ll make do and get the other bits done like you said :) they said the engineer should contact in 3-4 weeks, that was 1.5 weeks ago (but who’s counting 😂) so I’m hoping to hear in the next 2 weeks or so 🤞🤞🤞
@@morrigans_cottage I can imagine this countdown must feel like a forever one 🙈
@@Kjersti_ it really does! Buy it is giving more time to make more solid plans and get more funds together as well so small positives 😅
Get someone with a JCB to clear out the corner.
That’s definitely the plan, need to chop a few trees down and get another skip in and the well work on the jcb :)
Save up your pennies for a ride on mower! You never know you might get sponsored one day 😁
I have a little fund set aside that I add a few euros to for the lawnmower, I’m trying to borrow some money from the credit union for the Renos so I can’t spend a penny, but once I hear back on that I will be able to maybe buy a ride on! I’ve seen some second hand online but I know nothing about mechanics and I’d be worried I end up buying something broken, so I may have to just get a new one 😅
@@morrigans_cottagealways the worry with s/h , you should watch domaine sauvage, he baffles me, but very technical 😂
I think an excavator with a big bucket required for the trash pile. You really cleared that so much!
So exciting seeing otherside of the door. The new plan makes such a great way to have good flow through your home. Would using your saw to take chunks of plaster down at a time make cleanup easier for you? I thought you were using a saw at one point.
Could you potentially have the drainage and field mowed one at a time and open the land that way, over a few years?
I'm confused about what you call a "fake" fireplace. Why is fake, i'd imagine in an Irish climate you want as much heating as you could?
Fingers crossed for grant news.
I was using the saw but I was a little afraid of wiring and stuff on this wall, I had electrics off and checked on the machine to see if wires were there but I was still a little nervous so taking the chunks seemed a little safe! The saw is much easier though!! I’m glad you like the plans for the rooms/house, it definitely
Make sense to have the house flow a little better :)
Oh and the fake fire is just because there’s no chimneys anymore and I don’t think I want to put any back in!
@morrigans_cottage so an electric/gas one in the fireplace is what you mean? That is a good idea, or your life will be chopping wood and mowing 😂
@@deborahlee8135 yes exactly an electric one I think if preference just because fire scares me 😂
Can we see a bit more other than grass cutting 🤔 why don't you finish one room completely before starting on another ? Everything seems so haphazard 😮
Unfortunately no not at the the moment, until grant approval comes through we can only do little bits and cut grass, I think I talked about this in this video lol
I don't mind watching land maintenance being carried out, it is all part of the restoration of your home. I was thinking about your nettle patch so don't be surprised if you find rubbish under it. Nettles are usually a sign of an old Victorian midden (dump) especially near old houses/cottages.
How are your potatoes coming along and other vegetable plantings?
What is happening about the bees?
I’m glad the land maintenance isn’t too repetitive :) I’d imagine there probably is more trash hidden away but I’m going to live in my hopeful bubble a tiny bit longer 😂 the potatoes grew brilliant and I harvested them all now, everything else sadly died 😂 it was not a good growing season for me but hopefully next year when I’m at the house properly I can maintain them better :) the bees are still living in the walls, they never moved into the hive at least last time I checked about 2 weeks ago! I’ll check this weekend again I’m hoping they’re going to move out soon! ❤️
Hi Aisling, have you checked that there isn't already a fireplace behind that wall in the main bedroom behindtge plasterboard? That would be awesome, cheers 👍🏻
So I actually have now, it should be in either the next video or the one after, and I couldn’t find it, I could see where one might have been but I think they must have blocked it up… but perplexed by it I’m not going to lie!
You are very brave taking more plasterboard down after what you found the last time, fair play. Glad to hear that puppy is well, they bounce back quickly at that age.
Just wait until you see what I found when I took more in the room down… dirt and mold and everything else!! Thankfully Miss Rosie is grand now, running around like a mad thing!
I love that your uncovering original features and restoring them like the doorway. I admit I laughed a little when you went to open the door and it was still stuck! Keep up the great work and thank you for sharingwith us
Thank you! It’s one of the very few original features left and I’m really glad that I’m able to work it into the plan to use it! I love to think about how many people have used the door through the years!
Oooh you could remove the back of that old wardrobe and put it in front of the doorway, it would be like a secret passage between the two rooms.
That’s SUCH A GOOD IDEA!!!
Could you make a corner fireplace to give more space? Just a thought.
A corner fireplace could be really nice too! I think once I see what the walls are like behind the plaster the. I’ll have a better idea on what to do
Wow! The amount of grass really calls for a riding mower!
It REALLY does!!! I’ve been keeping an eye out for a cheap second hand one but just a little out of budget at the moment
glad to see u opening up that door. its wasted space left closed
100% agree! Hoping to use it as a doorway but if I can somehow multipurpose the space I will!
Very pretty snd peaceful sunset
The sunsets are beautiful, I don’t generally hang around that long because I hate driving in the dark but they’re really nice!
Where did sick puppy come from?
There should be a video from about 2 months ago, we fostered 2 little puppies from a rescue in co Limerick, and we were allowed to keep one of the puppies - she’s my family pup and lives in Dublin full time with my parents and siblings :) she is thankfully all better now
A hidden door behind a bookshelf would be fun. You could even do the classic pull a book to open the door/ bookshelf
I think that would be really cool too! I’ve always wanted a hidden bookcase door!!
@@morrigans_cottage DIY Danie (Canadian) did a hidden door with a bookshelf, you might like to find that video on YT ❤
@@deborahlee8135 oh I’ll have to check that out thank you!
I don't understand why you don't get on with one room seems pointless pulling a little bit at a time
I only have a few hours a weekend at the house so only a small amount gets done each time
Exploratory work needs to be done to get an understanding of what issues are in each room that impact the home and budget overall. No point in doing the pretties in one room if the others fall down around you
@@deborahlee8135 that’s so true, my worst nightmare is paying to have something done and then finding a problem after so you have to start again!

Gosh I do find eamon Ryan a bit mad, he really hasn’t much of a clue on how real life works! Definitely think it’s important to get the drains opened up, I’ve been working on that the last week so it’ll be in a video coming up but I do hope it will help with drainage! Hope you’re keeping well ❤️
