    The Sun Tree moment will NEVER be the same again, knowing that we saw Laudna there.
    She was there the whole time.
    She wasn't an insignificant NPC, she was a victim of collateral damage. A victim that in spite of her transformation continued to exist. She chose to continue to live to the fullest, in whatever way she could.

    You know what the craziest part about all this is? This is all improv.
    But no, really think about it. How many times have y'all had hypothetical conversations in the shower or lying in bed? I can only image all the millions of scenarios that Marisha went through when thinking about how Laudna was going to make this reveal and yet through all of that, she can never be able to predict who was going to hear this tale and what they were going to say. And just like that, she drops that line, "Well, of course. The worst thing that's ever happened to me has already happened." Even her husband had a reaction to that line, that's been sitting in her brain for so long.
    It's remarkable that Marisha knows her character so well and has perfected this craft to such an extent that just like that, she manages to pull that out of her proverbial hat. What a damn chilling line to say in that moment. I was convinced Marisha was a stellar actress before but this moment takes the cake. Unbelievable.

    • @thatnerdyuncle
      @thatnerdyuncle 2 года назад +17

      And she delivered it in such a way that is not melodramatic, not ironic, not as a throwaway. In a way that tells me that Laudna has thought deeply about it and come to terms with her situation quite a while ago. Ie, just as you describe Marisha’s process.

    • @lyianx

      I guess.. *how* she told it might have been improv. But the backstory of her being one of them on the tree she has planned out when creating Laudna.

      your not the only one, this episode, that line. Hit me like a bullet train and helped pull me out of a slump and really recontextualise the way I looked at my depression. I'm not sure that Marisha will ever fully understand how much of an impact that one line has had for so many critters

    It felt so rewarding to me that my theory I had regarding Laudna's death actually came true. I am a new critter since last year and only watched C1 until the beginning of the Briarwood Arc. I watched The Legend of Vox Machina and as soon as Laudna said in one of the earlier episodes that "Whitestone was turned upside down looking for them" (Vox Machina) I had the sneaking suspicion that she was a victim from the sun tree. What an awesome idea Marisha, I love it! :D

    So I'm still a little unclear, but I guess Laudna was supposed to be Vex's stand-in? I know Keyleth's stand-in just had red paint run through her hair, so it's possible she was Keyleth's, but Laudna does more or less resemble Vex as-is.

    • @serbadork
      @serbadork 2 года назад +11

      I could be entirely wrong about this, Marisha would need to confirm, but based on context clues it seems like yes, she was meant to be Vex's stand-in. Especially since this is the DND version, not the show version which is a totally different canon that added new things to it like changing the appearance of the Keyleth stand-in.

      @@Thanewolf26 From what i can recall, she mentioned she was basically around 20 years old when it happened. Otherwise she wouldn't look the way she does, which is the same form as when she died. so somewhere in her 20's to 30's, essentially. Which is why everyone thinks it's Vex!

    • @wizrad2099
      @wizrad2099 2 года назад +12

      @@Thanewolf26 As stated above, Laudna doesn't really age anymore after coming back from the dead. The way she looks now is the way she looked when she came down from the tree. So it had to either be Vex or Keyleth. One would expect her to pick her own character, Keyleth, but her description of Laudna looks a lot more like Vex.
