Georgetown used to be called the garden city of the Caribbean, but no more. The canals used to be constantly dredged and weeded, and were free of garbage. People started using the canals as garbage dumps, the government stopped cleaning the canals, and some were even converted to roadways. WHAT YOU SEE IS THE RESULT. Don't blame it on the weather , blame the geniuses who made those decisions .
Compare to recent flood I've seen in the islands 🌴 Guyana flood water is the cleanest. In others places watering is so muddy. The view is awesome. Guyana is truly beautiful.
This as been happening since Guyana was British Guiana and probably longer.. If I am not mistaken, Georgetown is under sea level...The Dutch built the trenches for a reason...So sad...

Thanks for the tour. Guyana with its new found wealth should put up massive pumps to deal with this issue. Not healthy at all with all the dirty water from the drains coming up all over plus the trash. It is a solvable issue that needs to be addressed seriously.
Great video.Well Mr Persaud 🇬🇾 is a land of many waters.Lots of water.Haven't seen such street flooding in years as I migrated many many years and never returned.
Nice video lots of rain.We are having sunny weather here 19 degrees .Today here in TORONTO.I see u pass by my School Christ Church Secondary.Great days.
We have lots of hardworking people . Lovely homes , nice vehicles , nice Buildings on a whole. We need to do something collectively to prevent our homes and businesses from being flooded out. Climate change is affecting the entire world, but we who are able bodied should start cleaning our drains , I decided to keep my Town's Reserve land and drain around my fence clean after losing my wall to carpets , Stove, Refrigerator , Music Set, furniture to a flood. Danny thank you so much , your love for your fans is Amazing, I am happy you were able to cover this vlog which looked so dangerous.
let the people keep building mega mansions but not paying attention to the environment and their disregard when it comes to dumping garbage in the trenches...there is a price to be paid for man's indiscretions
When you see your old stomping ground and you have to rewatch the video to take it all in again- even if it’s just for a few seconds- nostalgia is a beautiful thing. Sad and worrying to see beautiful Georgetown so flooded. I hope some of the petro-dollars will be spent on improving Guyana’s infrastructure starting with the capital- for the sake of the people and the economy. Thank you for bringing us this vid- really appreciate what you do.
Would be nice if the government put back the railways. Also build highways to Brazil and Venezuela, ferries to Surinam. These things could increase tourism. Guyana used to be very clean and beautiful under the British rule. An airport in Berbice would be a good thing as well. Just my suggestions. Thanks for sharing and the great work you are doing. 💞💞💞💞💞🎅🎅🎅
A third of The Netherlands is below sea level, the lowest being 6.7 metres. Yet that country does not flood. Guyana's coastline is a mere 1.5 metres below sea level at its lowest. This is what happens when governments don't know what their priorities are. This is what years of neglect, incompetence and corruption look like.
i live in the Netherlands, yes Netherlands have one of the best if not the best in water management system in the world when it comes to sea and rivers issues, but yet when it comes to rain there can be also flood problems in Netherlands, let alone 3 day's of heavy rain as what happed in Guyana, corruption is a worldwide issue, but in other countries the authorities will say we have some complications with the project it gone cost millions or billions more money and most people won't consider it as corruption.
Yes corruptions and years of neglect, years ago some dutch engineers went to Guyana and suggested building reservoirs and run under ground pipes PROBLEM SOLVE.
No, this is what happens when you are a poor country with less than 1 million people which does a source of taxes for the government to finance programs or projects. So, Guyana, had to go begging for loans from foreign banks and countries to take on projects to improve Guyana, especially, since we such a large country compare to our population. But thank due to oil find ( black gold ), Guyana would or should be able to do all of those things that you and others are crucifying them for not being to do.
As the mayor of georgetown said, the previous government give them 75 million, while the present government give them 2 million, this is what causes this a government that neglect its duties, this is what happen when the government business friends will not pay the taxes,so the treasury is low many of the big business men is friends with this corrupt government so the allow them not to pay their taxes.
We always have these kind of rain is that menny drainage has block up because of these uge building that putting up around gt and they don't have proper drainage so the public have suffered the consequences
Much of Guyana is below sea level along the coastal seafront. Just goes to show how easily the streets can get immersed under water 💧. Thank you for taking the risk to drive through some really deep water in order to do this video. Climate change is affecting the entire world 🌎 at the moment!!!
We have to chang, Brazil, Guyana, suriname and Frange Guyana their all having this problem. This is a climate change, we do not need rain forest clean most of the forest
Thank you so much for the video. As a child, my sister and I have always wanted to see the South Rd trench over flow. It has never happened while we live there. Taken 40 years to see this.
Thanks for sharing this is not something new to Guyana. As you know Guyana is below sea level, I grew up in_corentyne Berbice every year the place are flooded out, it's so common. The Guyana Government need to step up and make better drainage and clean the garbage from the streets, I remember in Berbice sometimes people toilet use to overflow Everything running all over the village. luckily its only Rain not hurricane like the people have to empathize within the USA. . Stay safe God blessed!
Guyana is a beautiful country with many untouched forest. I have fond memories when I lived there from 4 years old until I was 7 years old. If and when the situation in Guyana improves I would not hesitate to consider buying a vacation/retirement home there. That was a nice drone shot of Georgetown. Denny, is it possible to do a video of the Public Hospital inside and out, particularly the old Doctor’s Flat where we lived? Perhaps also the old location of the Stella Maris School when it used to be by the Umana Yana? From the front of the school you could see the Pegasus Hotel and Umana Yana. I used to watch from my school when they were building the Umana Yana in 1972. If you can I really appreciate it. If not possible thanks anyway. Keep up the great videos. It brings tears to my eyes seeing places I recognize from when we lived there.
I could remember in the 80's we had rain for one week straight with some flooding....also the kitty market used to flood a lot.....I am from Thomas street kitty
It reminds my childhood days living in the country side of west berbice playing with we mocka mocka boat n the red ants floating on top of the water n also something else floating too n when the water receding bathing in the trench making a yellow battie lol
Thanks for your video! Those that live abroad can see the heavy floods that is beyond normal for Guyana. Guyana use to have some heavy floods in Georgetown years ago and from time to time in the “May, June” season but never to this extent. Especially in November when It’s not the rainy season. This is the worse floods and highest water level Guyana ever had, it looks like a smaller version of Louisiana in USA when the levy broke. That’s what this reminds me of. It’s not good for the infrastructure of the buildings and homes. It can weaken the foundation and eventually cause homes to fall down. This is a serious crisis that must be dealt with now before it’s too late. It’s going to happen again and again and you don’t know if the level would be much much higher. Climate change in the atmosphere is causing signs and wonders. Thanks my friend. You are my favorite guy, God Bless you and your family, I’m a subscriber and enjoy all of your shows, you’re the best and so genuine and down to earth. Love you❤️🙏
Awww, so very sorry for all the residents affected by this weather as never before. We must remember it could have been worst. INFRACTURES and new evaluations needed to be planning into bringing the solutions to the problems. Yes Denny, it is true that GLIBAL WARMING SEEMS TO GE SERIOUSLY AFFECTING VERY MANY COUNTRIES IN THE WORLD. GOD PLEASE HAVE MERCIES. OUR WORLD NEEDS PRAYERS AND ANSWERS TO GLOBAL WARMING. It's called State house. THANKS ARD FOR TAKING TIME OUT TO COVER THE AFFECTED AREAS.
I've experienced that flooding in 1973 or 1974. We lived in Vreend en Hoop in those times. Like my US friend below mentioned be thankful it's just rain. In the US we have virus, fires, hurricanes and and political crisis. BUT! Horay! We have a new president today.
Some things is not Right Check the Drainage l grow up with lot of rain in Guyana but nothing like this God keep you all safe from Rain and Coronavirus what a year 2020 go away 🙏🙏🇬🇾🇨🇦
The flooding is down to the poor state of the pumpsm, trenches and larger waterways. That is why the Dutch built all the trenches. All the box food boxes and plastic wastem silted up waterways
Danny, can you please do a video of Cummings Lodge. My dad is from there and I would really like to see where he is from! Keep up all the good work. You are truly an inspiration 🙏🙏
Although all the roads are underwater, its passible. In Trinidad with 3 days of rain, our roads are impassable where flooded. Nice tour and video with great sound.
The great flood of 2020. It's partially due to poor drainage system in the city, climate chang with more bad weather, and the fact that the land is below sea level so drainage is more difficult. I was wondering if the people on foot and biking should have to worry about power lines coming in contact with the standing water and electrifying the water
Thank you for sharing this video of what happens when incompetent governments fail the people and people fail to BASIC SERVICES. This is the result of not maintaining the infrastructure and not providing for the proper collection and disposal of garbage. I grew up in Georgetown and can recall a time when there was efficient pick up of garbage and it was taken to the incinerator for burning. That’s when Georgetown lived up to its name as the Garden City. Once those ESSENTIAL services stopped, citizens had no proper way to dispose of their garbage. Guyanese for the most part I believe are prideful people. There was no problem back when the Government and City Council took their fiduciary seriously. Years of neglect and incompetence yielded this disaster. And as always when Governments fail their people because of CORRUPTION, GREED and NEGLIGENCE the most impacted as in this example are those hard working Guyanese who just want an opportunity to make a living and survive. Linden.
Some of the Guyanese people are to be blamed as well for their contribution of garbage disposal all around the streets park’s trenches roadways etc Guyanese needs to start disposing of their garbage in a proper manner rather than tossing it out the car window. Definitely government needs to do more as well.
this video randomly showed up in my suggestions and this guy happens to drive by my old home from when i was like 8 years old. Strange, but glad i found this channel
It's sad to see our beautiful country going true all these issues from the covid an now flooding my my what I think guyana need to have proper drainage the need to put all drains in concrete an condem all the mud drains dig all the drains deep an do all I think that will help alot 🙏🙏🙏🙏singh thanks for keeping us updated u are a sweetheart ❤️💯
I never seen so much flooding in GT. I left in the 80's. The drainage would have to be updated and that takes alot of taxes to build out. GT is below sea level so good drainage is vital... God help Guyana..
Thank you very much for your video. It was nicely done. I see the laments (which I do understand) below about "needing better drainage". But I submit to you that there was only one way to stay the threat posed by Medusa. Wrapped up in that account is the identification of and solution to Guyana's real problem!
Wow..that flooding can be real problem for Guyana, I see why so many houses are on stilts. Good thing it doesn’t happen very often on that scale. I can imagine that the new government in Guyana has a lot on it’s plate, in terms of fixing up the country’s infrastructure. If I may suggest, they can possibly look into building drainage systems, for the water to recede into. Here in Florida we get a lot of rain, especially around hurricane season. Canals, swale and waterways connects to community drainage districts and hundreds of smaller neighborhood systems to effectively manage floodwaters during heavy rain. Almost every community and along roads and highways they have built large drainage ditches that looks like lakes, when we have heavy rainfalls the water drains into these man made lakes. This might be a cheaper alternative to expensive pumps. The Guyana government also need to consider building up that seawall higher, due to raising sea levels. Nice informative video as usual ARD, stay dry my friend.
This not a new government this Government was in power for 23 years and did nothing and for those 23 years Georgetown was at it worst APNU/AFC to over for 4 years and in that 4 years the place was starting to look better now the PPP has taken over and and with all the new wealth we shall see what the PPP will be doing regarding the infrastructure. Time is the greatest measuring stick.
@@lennoxneils4679 You must be talking about Forbes Burnham. He took Guyana to a death spiral plunged that it has not yet fully recovered from. Guyana lost many of its best and brightest minds in a mass diaspora due to the government of Forbes Burnham ruining the country, and years later Granger went down the same road. That Exon Mobile oil deal that Grangers government signed is a joke, Guyana is going to loose millions of dollars (US). Totally agree, don't blame it on the weather.
