AOT S4 EP 28
AOT PART 2
Episode 28 of AOT the final season was called The Dawn of Humanity.
During the time skip between seasons 3 and 4 the survey corps were looking for alternatives to the rumbling cause they didn’t want to rely on it for their survival. Relying on the rumbling would mean that Historia and her descendants would need to become royal blooded titans and to avoid this outcome Hange suggested that they should travel to Marley. By doing this they could learn more about the enemy and hopefully find a solution and episode 28 follows directly on from this. As the scouts set foot on the continent they’re greeted by Onyankopon, who arrived in Marley at an earlier date after presumably being brought there by the Kiyomi. His job is to take the group to the Azumabito estate but first we get a few moments of the eldians exploring the outside world and badly trying to blend in with modern society. Because this is their first time leaving the island they’ve literally never seen things like clowns, or ice cream or cars, which is why Hange started waving at it like it was some kind of farm animal. While most of the group was visibly excited to be here, from the start of the episode Eren had a depressed look on his face and often looked like he was deep in thought about something. The main reason his mood was so terrible compared to everyone else was cause he’s realising that all these people and everything around them will one day be wiped out because of him. Back when he kissed Historia’s hand he saw future memories of his full scale rumbling but for a few years he let himself believe that this future might be avoidable. Eren had originally hoped that freedom for the island and freedom for his friends could be achieved a different way but after trying and failing, at this point he was 90% certain that the memories he saw were unavoidable. That’s why he consistently had this vacant expression, since he was processing the reality that he has no other option but to he destroy everything he’s currently looking at. It’s interesting when we contrast Eren’s gloomy expression with Armin’s excitement, cause from a young age they’ve both had this dream to see what was out there but only one of them is burdened with this knowledge of the future.
Now before we move on, I thought it was worth mentioning the significance of Eren and Mikasa’s interactions in these early stages. On two separate occasions he was in a complete trance thinking about the terrible things that are going to happen and both times Mikasa shows up to break him out of that thought process. In my opinion this was foreshadowing for later in the episode, when Mikasa had the chance to break him away from this reality where he does the rumbling. In this one moment Eren was willing to forget about the awful future he’d seen and go down a completely different path but it all depended on how Mikasa responded to his question.
Later when Mikasa notices that Eren isn’t there, everyone goes to look for him and she eventually finds him by himself outside this refugee camp. Although she didn’t see it he was crying before she arrived and this is proof that right now Eren is mentally at his lowest point as is questioning whether the rumbling is something he wants to do. Remember when he spoke to Reiner earlier this season he revealed that he used to think everyone in Marley was an enemy but it was once he crossed the sea that he realised they were all the same. This is something Eren only understood once he got here and it’s why for this one single moment, he was willing to abandon everything and run away with Mikasa. As she approaches him he goes on to explain that these refugees are similar to the eldians, in that one day their regular lives were suddenly taken away from them and now they have no freedom.
The entire episode was great but that ending though… THIS IS CINEMA 😭
Also idk about everyone else but I’m super happy we’re getting part 3 and not a movie. Will be more fleshed out + won’t take forever to release outside Japan😂

I think the Eren and Mikasa confession was so important because Eren most likely already knew what Mikasa was going to say, but thought that if by chance she changed her choice it would've meant that maybe he too could change the outcome of the rumbling.
But why would he abandon everything just because mikasa says she likes him? I still don't understand that
@@tulip135 not because if she said she liked him, more because everything that's happened Eren has already seen through the future memories. Thats partly why he had gotten depressed, because even when he failed every time he tried to change the future. Hence Mikasa confessing love = the future had changed from what he saw and might have a chance to change again

Nah, I remember hearing many reports that MAPPA animators were overworked and on a huge crunch. I guess it was true because the animation was bad compared to Part 1.

The manga has been done for over a year it was no point in delaying the final season the ending has been set in stone over a year ago
With only a few chapters left to animate, I expect them to really give us something special. MAPPA has really impressed with their attention to detail. Really sucks to have to wait another year, but I’m not worried on them delivering something great, especially with the time frame and less content to adapt compared to previous seasons
I don’t mean to gloat or anything but I think my conviction far outmatches Eren’s. I’ve managed to go 4 years of waiting for new seasons without taking even a peek at the manga. Let’s see Eren do that

Yup, I’ve been watching since season 1 was on tv in 2013. Remember the typhoons, and all the all the other shit that delayed the shit out of other seasons? Another year? Easy wait for me haha 🤷♂️
That Mikasa and Eren scene where she tells him she thinks of him as family was so damn heartbreaking
Even knowing their feelings from manga spoilers, watching the animation literally caused emotional damage....
I don't even think Eren was after a romantic response. I think he genuinely wanted to know why Mikasa was bound to him.
I’m not a person who gets choked up or overly emotional to shows/movies etc. But the scene where all of them are in the tent with refugees genuinely had me smiling ear to ear. It was so nice seeing them all having fun, getting drunk, and just enjoying each others company (seeing Sasha really added to it). It’s how they were meant to be, just friends having fun and enjoying life but, obviously fate decided otherwise.
IMO it was just a stand out scene that honestly is nice to see after violent and action scene moments. MAPPA did well here.
Edit: It’s been a few days since I watched the episode and I think it’s probably up there with one of my favourite scenes.
Also Eren and Mikasa sleeping by each other I found low key cute hahaha

It didn’t surpass the manga 😂
@@ayericky4903 Just like the people who don't like the ending, to YOU.
@Erik Kemeey Yeah, God forbid a man show any emotions...
@Erik Kemeey Never said it was perfect; but fine how it ended though - it had the themes of the series and anyone that was paying attention could've easily predicted the ending, which many did. Also, Eren has shown some interest in Mikasa - this isn't a romance anime, it's not going to be all in your face.
@Erik Kemeey My guy, I couldn't care less what others think, I've been reading this series since before the anime came out, I think I know how I feel about the series as a whole. This story is and was always going to be a tragedy. The original ending was going to be everyone dying on the planet but Isayama changed it due to the popularity of the series or some shit like that. The themes were still there at the end - everyone focuses on the freedom part only, but negate the thing that's been said throughout the series, which is basically: there's always going to be conflict and wars. Another reoccurring theme, Eren making a choice not knowing what the right answer will be, but moving forward nevertheless. The rumbling was in my opinion the wrong choice because it goes against what Eren thinks but, he thought through his memories it was the only way. Eren was never free - ever since he was born his life was on a path to what the ending is, hence the tragedy of his character - the person who was most drunk on freedom really wasn't. Just my opinion.
I love the idea that Eren has ALWAYS been that way. He even tells Zeke he’s always been that way. Everything just make sense.
He has always been a psycho
This episode was so good and the ost at the end from season 1 made it even better

Eren cutting his leg and poking his eye out, really shows how much control he has over his Titan powers and will to fight!
This anime is special, each character has their motives and each one is justifiable. Maybe not the first king and a couple more but for the most part you can see why they choose a certain path. Such a tragic but compelling story that reflects on real life events.
Fullmetal Alchemist was that kind of anime for me in my teens. 32 now and AoT is a similar experience. Wife and I were pissed that there is another year of waiting for the finishing of the story lol
I watched this with my partner and he made the observation that the exact reason why Eren saw Mikasa’s answer as an out is because it would’ve gone against the future he saw. If she had said she loved him romantically then it would have been proof the future can be changed, but she didn’t, meaning everything was still happening exactly as he saw it so he gave up that last hope.
Amazing observation!!
So nothing transcends fate, not even love
But why didn't Eren just, idk... NOT start the rumbling shit if he wanted to change the future? Or at least talked with his team about the future he saw to try and devise a plan first? I don't get it, but ik whenever I figure it out at the ending it's gonna blow my mind

I don't think Eren was questioning whether the rumbling was something he needed to do, rather that he was going to do it and all the refugees he was looking at were going to die.
I can be both.
Eren's whole character has revolved around the search of freedom and what "freedom" actually means. Even though it might seem that the Scouts have acquired more freedom as the series progresses, Eren has certainly been losing it. He has been fighting for freedom but has become less free with every step. This happens to the point in which he questions his own will, is it really his own? Whose memories are these? Are they past or future? Can his actions change the things that are going to happen? If you're unsure about your own will, you start to doubt your own sense of self. The manga readers know this but for the first time in the anime it is hinted to us that everything boils down to an act of love, perhaps the only action of true free will that a human being is capable of.
Damn
It breaks my heart knowing that eren didn't want to do what he is doing and how he wishes it didn't have to be this way. I wish mikasa would've told him her true feelings but I understand why she didn't even though it's clear to everyone how she truly feels about him.. It's so fucking sad
Oh he wanted to do it. He's a parallel to Reiner, remember? Reiner _wanted_ to knock down the Walls because he thought it would make him a hero. Eren _wants_ to flatten the Earth because his childish view of freedom says that is what he needs to do to attain it.
And then they both spent a lengthy amount of time amongst their enemies.
Eren can't differentiate the bad people from the good...just like Reiner couldn't. But just like Reiner, he decided to go through with it anyway because that is what he _wanted to do._
So when he's crying I don't feel sympathy for him. I pity him.
He's just like Reiner: A Half-Hearted Piece of Sh!t.
yeah agreed, I was gutted when Mikasa didn't tell him how she felt...
“Maybe I could’ve done or said something different to prevent this” kind of ironic that mikasa says this when the world of aot is so deterministic…

Hands off the best breakdown videos of Attack on Titan on RUclips, keep up the good work, Quirk!
So glad they're doing a 3rd part tbh, my theory is that it'll be 13 episodes so that the series ends on the 100th episode. People were already complaining that the final arc in the manga felt rushed, so I feel like doing a 3rd part will give Mappa the opportunity to fully adapt the manga and maybe even add a few things here and there to make it feel more complete. And who knows, maybe Isayama will decide to make some last-minute changes to things he wasn't fully satisfied with in the manga, he's done it before so 🤷♀

Because eren knows that what she will say so he wanted her say different things other than his family
Thank you so much for such a thrilling breakdown of the last episode. The more I think about it, the more layers I recognise are in this episode and the more I am blown away each time. I felt really bad for Mikasa when she reflected on that interaction with Eren because, unlike him, she cannot see the future. If someone loves you, they communicate how they are feeling/what they need or at the very least they try to show what their intentions may be behind such a loaded question as Eren's. If Mikasa knew the depth of what Eren was requiring of that answer, I have no doubt she would have overcome her shyness and revealed her true feelings. But how could she know what he needed her to say/ what he needed from her? She's not a prophetess.
Also, quick correction. At first, Sasha's purse was stolen. Levi rescued him from the crowd. And, while he was being carried away, he pickpocketed Levi and made off with his wallet in the end. I think that's why the purses/ moneybags were different colours as well.
Agreed. I found that whole part so gross. Beyond unfair to Mikasa. If anyone was to sympathise with what Eren was going through, it would've been her. And yet...he doesn't tell her shit, and puts all this unknown pressure on her in this one moment. I really can't stand him.
I’m confused tho, Eren gave her two choices: “do you care about me because I’m family or do you care about me because I saved your life?” I don’t get how the second option means picking love.
I like the Mikasa "what am i to you" scene a lot and I like the idea that Mikasa is haunted wondering if she could have changed things had she told him her true feelings. However I DON'T think Eren would have actually cancelled all his plans if she confessed her feelings. Can someone tell me how titans can swim? Maybe I missed something but the number one thing on my mind before the rumbling even happened was how was Eren gonna get those titans across the sea? I hope there will be flashbacks to the books with the abnormal titan parts showing that action and how titans are the problem to everyone. Idk hopefully it's gonna be really good and the episodes will be longer.
You want them to release episodes longer than 25 minutes?
As a Manga Reader, maaaan this Series has been phenomenal thus far. Can't wait to see how they end the series in the anime.
1000% Break internet Material
why was the first half of the episode so different than the manga? filler??
@@aaronvasquez66 yeah most likely
Garbage changing stuff.
It’s also been hella predictable too
@@slackerZ1 they said they’re changing the ending so who knows maybe they’ll change the actual storyline too
Bro all I know is that this finale is mind blowing
Your episode summaries were the best by far. Great work man
Attack on titan season 1000: Somehow Eren has returned
It's Episode 87. It will be cool to end it at 100 Episodes
Also that would make part 3 13 episodes which is important in aot
This episode made me cry, laugh and scream. MAPPA is truly killing the game this season with AOT. I’m so thankful it will be returning in 2023, but once it’s over my heart will forever have a void. This show is truly something special ❤️
The blush should've told Eren everything he needed 2 know! Damn Mikasa!
Thanks for the breakdown. This answers all the questions I had. Good work.
This episode gave me the big feels with the refugee villige, and goosbumps with the rumbeling.
Thanks you really clarified a lot. This vid has made the entire season now worth a rewatch.
Eren is so freaking savage 🤣 spends so much time with everyone, all the while thinking “yea imma slaughter ALL of you” then he MUTILATES himself not just with a knife but a FREACKIJG BULLET TO THE EYE;
Dedication level: OVER 9000!!!
Lol cut him some slack it’s the last time he’ll get to see them all happy and be able to enjoy it but I do see what you’re saying
Thanks for the weekly videos, I guess I’ll be back when part 3 comes out. Going to miss u 😔
The release date coming next year better since they intend to do a large volume of episodes since part 3 is gonna be the last likely season. The last 2 episodes were arguably Mappa’s best AoT work in terms of everything I can’t wait to see how they cook it up next year 🔥🔥🔥
Could you do a breakdown of Erwin’s long range scouting formation? Breaking down the positions and what they’re for etc. I love your analyses and you break things down in a way that is enjoyable and easy to understand. Love your videos❤️
I really loved eren and floch relationship I really hope we could've seen more
There will be more of him in the future
How he dead
@@ethanfortson8321
Alert: Manga spoilers
He is not dead.
the way eren's theme played when we saw the clossals is just 💯💯💯
Took me a second to realise that the reason colossal titans could swim so fast was due to them use their steam as extra propulsion 🤣
Its insane how far the series has come
I think the reason why Eren is crying on the kid is because he saw him in a future memory which is pretty bad. Not spoiling tbh that idea literally popped out of my mind.

Ramzi And His Brother Get Killed In The Manga By Rumbling When He Kiss Historia Hand He Saw A Future And He Already Know Some Day He Was Gonna Die By Him Thats Why He Crying
@@andrushaandrusha5618 I knew it he's gonna be killed but don't worry for getting me spoiled cause if I say bad memory then it means he died
Been waiting for this video
what i love about Eren is that he is like Oedipus. is it more tragic that Eren had no free will at all? his future self changed his past which affects his present and so forth
@turtle quirk you are the best when it comes to breaking down the episodes of attack on titans and it's because of you explaining these episodes so well that i have become a huge fan of AOT! Keep doing this great work!
I always thought Floch was eavesdropping on Eren and Yelena conversation and then confronted Eren about it
Didn’t he organize the meeting in the first place?
Nvm he did
@@alvarosolorzano5405 oh thanks I forgot
Lmaoooo this the breakdown i was lookin for🥇🥇🔥
When season 3 was annocunce, it really showed us how much animation AOT takes. Like isayama gave every animator and everyone who ever work on this show complete hell.
You make me and my roomate's day when you post
Young Erens facial reactions was so manga accurate and the music used for the founding titan gave me chills
The music is as same as when reiner reaveled themself
I’ve never felt so many chills in a series before . This show is peak fiction
so we just finna speed past hisoka meeting levi 😂😂
LMFAOO
Amazing breakdown; I'm a huge fan of your channel.
The immigrants in the interment camp could be a reference to Japanese immigrants in the US during WW2. At this point Marley is at war with their home nation so they were relocated by force, and this is why Erin says their regular lives was taken away from them.
This show is not just one of the greatest animes I’ve seen, it’s one of the greatest tv shows period. I saw people complaining about “filler” this season but I was GLUED to the tv every single second. Every tiny remark just builds this world more and adds to the intensity, emotions, surprise. I’m here for every fucking second of it
People complaining about filler are clearly just not interested in the show. My absolute favourite episode of this season is 20 minutes of enemies sat around a camp fire discussing their views.
It's genuinely one of the most tense scenes I've seen in any show that I've watched.
There was no room for filler in this season lmao. In fact, I would have liked a bit more of it. I'd have loved to see a much longer conversation with Annie, Armin & Connie when they first met. Especially since Annie has yet to say much or form much of a relationship to the new warrior condidates.
Mikasa’s realization that Eren is the same person he always has been hit beautiful in the manga and the way it translated to the anime was fantastic.
Eren is truly a sick twisted bastard and i love it
personally i want the last part to just be made into a movie. Making anything more than 5 episodes seems like too much as it is considering there’s like 10 chapters left
I don't really think he is sick and twisted. A powerful person in a group that is hated by the world tends to think much different
