Your trip reports are a genuine tonic for me these perilous days. I'm a US citizen so imagine what you'd like. I worked for a major U.S. airline for 35 years including 5 months as an inflight service director and as a manger of of the company's international computer maintenance services. Now at 77 and no longer able to travel or take advantage of my mobility and enjoyed benefits, your stories bring back many memories. If anything, they've shown me all the wonderful places I could have (and should have) visited while I was able. We do share a couple common traits that, in my opinion, make visits much more enjoyable: (1) do it solo unless you have a companion whose interests both of you share and; (2) whenever possible and with personal safety in mind, take the backstreets. Keep these coming Steve! (BTW, your Bergen cable car video and summit hike sealed my Patreon enlistment!)
Steve smart idea to use points before expiration on a premium class flight the seat looked great service impressive (I’ll never afford it) and sky video super ! I think I saw you waving to me as you flew over New Jersey 😁Thx as usual see you soon😘
Dang Steve,if I had known you were coming over I'd have put you up so you could do some more filming around the area..I live close to where Carnation Milk came from! Send me a note when you plan on coming over next time...I'm from Glasgow been here 23 years...
I travelled Business Class to Sydney and haven’t been able to travel Economy ever since. The difference is astounding. Everywhere you go in the airport clutching your Business Class Boarding Card you are approached and courteously ushered past every queue, through hidden doors, etc, it was magic. And the seat! So, so, comfortable, with built in massage. Heaven.
My jaw hit the floor when I saw that price..(The original, not the discount). I flew Icelandair this past holiday season from Sea-Tac to Gatwick for just under £1000 RT. Of course that was plain old economy, but £10,000! No thanks..lol Anyway, enjoyed being envious over what I could have had at 10 times the price.. Safe travels, friend!
One hell of an experience, and what an amazing way to travel. A real eye opener for me for sure. Just like your comment on the flight, this video flew past so quickly. A marvellous watch!
Looks amazing! Never knew you could bid for tickets! Good to know! I’m going to Seattle next year, been on the bucket list for a while. Looking forward to next weeks video! Cheers again, Steve.
Flippin heck slumming on the overnight coach via Sunderland to experiencing this! As someone who couldn't believe it when I got a 'free' mini bottle of wine on a KLM flight from Newcastle to Amsterdam- and realising this might be as good as it gets! - thank you for a down-to-earth approach to the other side of travel!
That was your best flight. This for me is the best flight review I’ve seen on RUclips to date. Download to earth and genuine. Really enjoy it , would make me consider Virgin Atlantic which I never thought of before . Thank you again. 😊❤😊
Fantastic video, we dont get to fly Virgin very often. We fly to the Philippines with PAL. Very similar in experiences. Great service and friendly crew always. As Richard Branson said. "Dont look after your customers, look after your employees and your employees will look after your customers".
So exciting to see you flying to my area. ( new vloger) I live four blocks from Point Roberts, Wa. USA . Now I will have to try and find your return home vlog! Thanks so much for your wonderfulVlogs😅 😊and it doesn’t matter what country you are in. They’re always basic, interesting and all true. Keep travelling and love Alecjia.
Watching these videos has expanded my scope when planning my travel. I’m planning on a week in London, but watching Steve has given me the idea of flying into Amsterdam or Paris, spending a night or two and taking the train through the Chunnel. Since my last trip there seem to be more options and better infrastructure for going further afield. Good on you, mate!
@@steve-marsh, I’m too old to wander the streets so I’d have something handy but inexpensive like a Z Hotel in my back pocket for such emergencies, but seeing what the options are today, as opposed to those during my last trip, is invaluable.
Forget 'Chunnel'. That nickname died out not long after the Channel Tunnel opened. Likewise, 'Britrail' refers to a ticket/pass, not British Rail. Anyway, enjoy your travel.
Oh Steve, this was my favourite video so far. Loved the disclosure about your op shop shirt. Your honesty is so refreshing, and such a nice shirt. I envy your experience in upper class. It looked so comfy. One day when I win lotto. Thank you for all your videos, so enjoyable and best part all for free 😂😂😂 🌷
Another highly enjoyable video - Steve's videos are always down to earth and don't have the "jaded traveller" feeling that some You Tube productions have - you enjoy when he gets a treat (like the desert)and he talks to you like are in the opposite seat ! Excellent.
Getting a free or cheap upgrade going East is much harder, as demand is so much higher in that direction. Well done Steve, it's great to enjoy a travel treat, and paid out of your own pocket too (unlike most of your fellow passengers there I'll guess).
Hope you enjoyed your brief visit to Seattle, my home town. The only thing that can make that flight better is when the skies are clear and you get to see the amazing mountains
Thanks Steve, a nice truthfully warm and sincere review, none of the cheesy sponsored stuff, I am sure Alicja would have loved to join you on First Class. Freat to hear your positive experience with the crew, can't wait for next week's video
I was amazed to see a second upload Steve, this is my style of transport, if I could still travel! looks like no expense is spared, a great name ‘Dreamliner’ I bet you’ve never had a welcome like that before 😉 your face was a picture! when the seating area turned into a cosy nest I was very surprised, and you slept well, overall I was very impressed, I would give it five stars ⭐️ it was lovely to see you treat yourself to some luxury, sorry about the return journey, the glimpse of Seattle was amazing! well done you 👏👏🤗
The food not having been prepared by me, the cabin crew being their lovely selves, I guess they'd have to drag me out by my feet. I wouldn't leave the plane voluntarily! 🤗 The clouds and the light over Seattle on approach were fantastic! 🥰
If I saw a program like “Boarder control” or similar: And watched someone came from all the way from Scotland via London to Seattle to just stay 2 nights, because they liked traveling. Then I would have thought: Something is suspicious, he is hiding something:) Great video.
Superb as always Steve. Those views of the Hebrides & the Arctic circle were nothing short of spectacular. Looking forward to next week's vid as it promises to be awesome.
Brilliant Steve , I once bagged a free upgrade from Sri Lanka to London back in the 90s , still the best flight I've ever had 👍 Fave you tube channel mate
Visited Seattle back in 1978 when I was 14. We had family living in the area.1st holiday abroad,1st time flying. Went Prestwick to Vancouver on an orange 747 operated by Wardair Canada. Family then met us and we drove over the border
Excellent videos - thanks for cheering us up - we haven't been on holiday for 5 years / due to punishing task of me looking after as a carer for my parent(s) - thanks for your a1++++++++ videos for boosting our outlook in life back.
Thanks, Steve, for a wonderful video, from an Englishman living in Scotland. I miss flying to the USA, which I haven't done since 1998. The views into Seattle looked great, Washington State is beautiful; the last time I was at the Space Needle was in 1981 just after the eruption of Mt St.Helens, which was still blowing smoke across the state. One thing I don't miss is the reception one always gets at US Immigration, they seem to have a courtesy bypass, at least in my experience. I look forward to your future videos.
Haha you are so right, they often have a very stern approach, trying to intimidate almost, I remember the first time I visited as a teenager and I was seriously scared, but now I just laugh at it :D
Haha yeah I got the border grilling too, going into SFO. Mainly I had just wanted to take the BA A380 on the top deck but it would be weird to say that! Might bid next time on upgrade (everyone seems to have that system now, better than leaving the seat empty I guess) but deffo only on a red-eye. That’s when I’d really need the bed, and wouldn’t mind quite so much if I lost the window seat…
Love the extra camera stuck to the window so that you could capture the view even when your nose isn't pressed against it! What a bargain, too. Really enjoyed travelling with you, virtually, Steve.
@@steve-marsh Glad you had a great time, even if it was only for one day. That's great you were able to take the Lightrail. I moved away a few months before it opened. 👍
I hadn’t seen this before, really glad I found it. There is something about arriving in the US which is special, that approach was it! I treated myself to BusinessClass BA Heathrow yo Nashville return last year as a retirement present to myself. Probably never again, but very enjoyable and glad I experienced it. The regulars just slept, abd I thought, they’re being paid for.
After a trip from Toronto (overland right across Canada) I flew back from Vancouver, which follows a similar track over the pole. The views can be stunning. A friend of mine gets regular long distance Business Class travel on Singapore Airlines - a very lucky lady. If you travel a lot, that really is the way to do it. She often sends me pictures of her luxurious seating, I do feel jealous.
And there we were feeling sorry for you wandering the streets of London at night like a homeless orphan!!🤣🤣🤷♀️ Because VA and Air NZ are in partnership, we were unexpectedly put on a VA flight from Heathrow to San Francisco in 2018. Seriously the best service ever, even though we weren't in the posh seats. I asked for chicken for lunch, and they had run out. The crew member then went to the business class section and snuck one of their meals down to me🥰 Even the check in the process was fabulous, we were really looked after well. Can't ever see us turning left on the plane, but well done finding those fares!
I visited Seattle and didn't really like it. Except for the Dale Chihuly Museum and Bainbridge Island which I took a ferry to. Both of which i think you would enjoy.
Very informative, it looks like you get looked after very well, nice drinks, glad you enjoyed your pudding, beautiful views, scones look nice and choice of jams,
I really enjoy your videos of Scotland. I have Scottish heritage and since I will never get to visit Scotland myself, I am loving seeing it through your eyes. Would love to see places like Edinburgh, Glasgow etc. Thanks for such interesting videos!
9:17 the island there is Eriskay in the Outer Hebrides, seen from the north east. You can just make out the causeway road linking it to "mainland" South Uist.
@@steve-marsh Ah, aerial photography is an interest of mine, and as a pilot I need to identify things from the air for navigation purposes. Great video.
Wow Steve, that really didn't disappoint. Incredible to see that and what a saving. I never get a kiss on the cheek from Ryanair😁thanks for sharing, glad I saved this till today to watch.
Hi, Steve. You are correct, you should have gone with the pie. Last time I flew VA in October 2022 I couldn't decide what to have so the FA suggested the pie. A good choice. I complely agree with you about the cabin crew. They are the best in the sky by far, followed by Qantas. The purser that welcomed you on board was on one of my flights. I flown with VA six times now and can't wait fore the next. Thanks as ecer for bringing us this video🙃🙃❤❤
Love your videos. Saw your comment about getting grilled by TSA because you are traveling by yourself for a short stay. It's just the nature of their job. We get grilled EVERY time we go to the UK. The first time was my 9 year old and I into Edinburgh. The customs agent grilled my son and I about where we were going, who we were seeing, how long etc. The next year was my husband, now 10 year old and I flying into Gatwick and it was the same grilling. Same for the next 3 trips in and out of Gatwick. We joked that the most unfriendly people in our trips over were always the customs agents. We flew on Virgin Atlantic 3 of our 5 trips and their service is impeccable.
Haha yes, it works both ways for sure! Oh I must say arriving in Edinburgh is my least favourite experience, even as a local. It's not a genuine Scottish welcome for sure :D
Great vid as always. Mrs TT and I flew with Virgin Atlantic in Upper Class to Boston back in 2017 (before I was YouTubing) honestly what a product it is. From start to finish it is special. I really enjoyed getting your perspective on it. What a price too!
Dannnnnnnnng Rolls Royce engines and first class. What a trip. What are the odds you come in to a sunny Seattle? Haha So the flight was 10 hours?! Shoot. Loved the video. Come on back this weekend for the game and bring the lady! Haha we will go to a bar in Columbus. Great video. Enjoyed watching the travel What a steal on the deal!!!
Steve, so glad you got some luxury for a change! You deserve it. I once went BA to San Francisco and it was nothing like your experience on this flight. Are you now expecting a kiss from all flight attendants now? Love the wee train too.
I was also on this flight with you, saw myself a few times. It was only when you said it was Dream Girl and I saw Rachel did I remember that I saw someone in a blue and white shirt with a camera on the plane. It was a great flight, the staff are the best aren't they. For price reference I booked the flight only a week before (on Halloween) and it cost about £6.5k return (and this was selecting upper class directly). This was done through my company as it was a business trip.
Haha no way! Cheers for watching! I was very relieved at the end to see it was booked via your company 😂 all the best to you, and hope you get plenty more videos up the front of aircraft 😊
@@steve-marsh Best crew I ever enjoyed was a regular on BHX/AMS headed up by "Miss Giggle" (especially on a last flight before a major when they had to empty to booze lockers....)
What a great airline Virgin Atlantic are, any class they still outclass other transatlantic carriers! They are our go to airline. Be on them again in the spring.
You'll forgive me, I hope, when I say I'm envious! Just over two months ago I paid approximately $2500 to fly First Class on Delta from Edinburgh to Boston. There was little comfort and the cabin crew did as little as possible. The meals were no better than I am used to getting in my usual cheap seats at the back! You did much better than me at your destination (which I've yet to watch), also. The closest I ever got to Seattle was SeaTac where I changed for Anchorage. Though I grant that your flight was super good, I don't know how you can describe a ten-hour flight as perhaps your best ever!
Thanks so much for doing this video. I had no idea how the 'other half' lives. Now, that's traveling with style. Glad you could document it for me, since I'll never see it. What a great deal you got. Love all your videos! (Oregon, US)
Thanks a lot :) I must say, the other half live well :D Apart from the obvious onboard experience, what really blew me away was the airport experience. I am not a big fan of airports, but with this ticket, it's a great place to be!
Those row houses the plane flies over in your intro remind me of the conclusion of the movie the VIPs with Burton and Taylor (they drive away reconciled in their RR ). ;). LHR in 1963. So quaint. No pods then. I guess that’s Hounslow? Anyway, thanks for vlog. Glad you’re living it up. ;).
@@steve-marsh it’s kind of a soap opera story, but most things are anyway. ;). The Hounslow houses at the end look like filmed as rear projection technique then placed into the limousine rear window. Seeing LHR in that bygone era is a kick though.
Steve I love how down to earth you are from your thrift shirt to appreciating this amazing flight. 😊.The salt and pepper shakers " pinched from Virgin " made me laugh.Looking forward to your next video of Seatle. Thankyou.
Hey, Steve! You landed in our neck of the woods! We live in near Portland, Oregon about 200 miles south. You found a much better way to go through Heathrow for sure.
I had to smile when one of the automatic videos popped up in this vlog - of course it was for Virgin Atlantic! Who else?! And on a personal note, I'm pleased to see that when you showed us your confirmation email you spell your first name the proper way !! 😎😆
Fantastic experience Steve, both for you and us. Virgin should give you a few free flights for the free advertising they just got. That thumbs up could be worth a good chunk of cash for them.
Jeepers you could have come and stayed with my fam but we're a couple of hours away from Seattle. You'd be welcome, esp so you don't need to turn around and go right back wow! Really enjoyed this video. Thanks!

Hi Steve, I am from Morningside but have a house in Washington as well, we'll sort of Washington. It is a Gibraltar type scenario called Point Roberts WA which is in British Columbia! Look on a map. The first Border marker between Canada and US is here and it's made from Scottish granite!!. If you ever come back or visit Vancouver give us a bell. It's nice here but there is no place like home, I wish I was in Bennet's pub!
Love these videos, always a great way to see back home and beyond. That has to be the island of Eriskay off South Uist over the Western Isles. You can make out Charlies beach too, very cool view

Ah that's a shame, it takes a while for the videos to make it to the channel, so I'm home already! Cheers mate! Aye, back to reality on the return :D
Wow what a bargain. I could certainly get used to travelling like this.
And there we were feeling sorry for you wandering the streets of London at night like a homeless orphan!!🤣🤣🤷♀️
Because VA and Air NZ are in partnership, we were unexpectedly put on a VA flight from Heathrow to San Francisco in 2018.
Seriously the best service ever, even though we weren't in the posh seats.
I asked for chicken for lunch, and they had run out. The crew member then went to the business class section and snuck one of their meals down to me🥰
Even the check in the process was fabulous, we were really looked after well.
Can't ever see us turning left on the plane, but well done finding those fares!
Kelley I 100% still require your full sympathy :) Hey, glad you had a nice ride with them too :)
I was last in Seattle in 1991 to visit relatives
in Oak Harbour . Nice to see it again. Thanks Steve 😊
I visited Seattle and didn't really like it. Except for the Dale Chihuly Museum and Bainbridge Island which I took a ferry to. Both of which i think you would enjoy.
This looks like an epic trip! Definitely going to add a flight like that to my bucket list!
On flight like this, the longer the better :)
Watched this before getting up on a Sunday morning. It’s so relaxing
Thanks for coming along David!
Very informative, it looks like you get looked after very well, nice drinks, glad you enjoyed your pudding, beautiful views, scones look nice and choice of jams,
What a lovely welcome onboard 😘 Virgin crew are always ace, make you feel a million dollars and like you’re an old friend they haven’t seen in years
So true, they do it so well and with genuine warmth
Dont like Upper Class seats on B787.Much better on the.A350-1000.Great work
Great video. I live in Seattle I'm glad you had an international flight the international arrivals terminal is new just opened this year.
Some walk though to get from the gate :D I enjoyed going over the big bridge though :)
Thanks so much for this! Even with google maps and the flight route I was struggling to work this out! :D
Haha I'm back to earth with a bump now mate!
That was amazing and you are so very lucky! And well deserved too. Thank you for taking us with you.
Thanks so much, I sure got lucky this day!
I live right outside Seattle. Would love to have met you.
Very exclusive Steve 😮
Dannnnnnnnng Rolls Royce engines and first class. What a trip.
What are the odds you come in to a sunny Seattle? Haha
So the flight was 10 hours?! Shoot.
Loved the video. Come on back this weekend for the game and bring the lady! Haha we will go to a bar in Columbus.
Great video. Enjoyed watching the travel
What a steal on the deal!!!
That would be beyond cool mate! One day!
@@steve-marsh one day, indeed. I will hold you two to it. We will get tickets and go. Have a great week!
A very good flight video; and I’ve seen dozens of them.
Steve, so glad you got some luxury for a change! You deserve it. I once went BA to San Francisco and it was nothing like your experience on this flight. Are you now expecting a kiss from all flight attendants now? Love the wee train too.
Haha I'll be emailing Ryanair to see how much extra they charge for the kiss
Hi Steve......a great vlog mate. Getting a big kiss on arrival too, a nice bonus.
😎☯️🌱
I suppose £400 first class is very cheap on a long flight to America 🇺🇸 ut glad you are having a good time RUclipsing
Virgin Atlantic is one of the few major airlines I haven't flown with, but it looks fabulous in business/upper class.
Aye it really was, especially the crew, they were just fantastic
@@steve-marsh Best crew I ever enjoyed was a regular on BHX/AMS headed up by "Miss Giggle" (especially on a last flight before a major when they had to empty to booze lockers....)
What a great airline Virgin Atlantic are, any class they still outclass other transatlantic carriers! They are our go to airline. Be on them again in the spring.
Islands @ 9:24: St. Kilda? Either that or the Smalls. Cheers Steve!
Ohhh I'll need to dust down the atlas and have a look!
Thanks for the vid Steve. Have flown a few biz classes transatlantic though not to the USA, and this certainly looks nice.
What an amazing experience pleased you got a good flight after some of your travels xx😊😊
Haha that shows how good it was Leon! Sorry your recent one didn't hit the mark!
Glad you’re living it up. ;).
I’ll need to go and watch that now! Aye, Hounslow, I was enjoying watching the planes flying over so low, the locals didn’t even look up 🤣
@@steve-marsh it’s kind of a soap opera story, but most things are anyway.
Thankyou.
Thanks Sarah! And pinched they were ;)
Haha I won't tell if you don't😂
Hey, Steve! You landed in our neck of the woods! We live in near Portland, Oregon about 200 miles south. You found a much better way to go through Heathrow for sure.
Hey down there in Oregon! Another State in my heart!
I had to smile when one of the automatic videos popped up in this vlog - of course it was for Virgin Atlantic! Who else?!
And on a personal note, I'm pleased to see that when you showed us your confirmation email you spell your first name the proper way !! 😎😆
Haha the only way mate :)
Fantastic experience Steve, both for you and us. Virgin should give you a few free flights for the free advertising they just got. That thumbs up could be worth a good chunk of cash for them.
Cheers David! Oh I wish, I wouldn’t mind experiencing how the other half live again!
Wow, that was very cool. Hopefully if you pop up to Seattle again (in a couple years or so) I'll be living nearby and can treat you to dinner!
I'll print this comment out and hold you to it! :D
Jeepers you could have come and stayed with my fam but we're a couple of hours away from Seattle.
You'd be welcome, esp so you don't need to turn around and go right back wow!
Really enjoyed this video.
Thanks!
Ach that would have been amazing!
Anytime you guys.
Steve (lost my comment)😂Anyway so smart to use flight before expiration sky video epic premium class and crew top drawer! I think I saw you wave when you flew over New Jersey 😃Thx see you soon😘
I had my hand out the window waving Linda!
I sure will thanks so much Bruce - sounds fascinating!
its nice to treat yourself now and again, nice one steve. brian d.
Beans on toast for a month after that. I imagine it’ll be back to Ryanair for my next flight…
Love these videos, always a great way to see back home and beyond. That has to be the island of Eriskay off South Uist over the Western Isles. You can make out Charlies beach too, very cool view
Thanks so much for confirming where it was! I'm desperate to go there now!
you are so welcome! I think its a bit blowy there atm but summer is magic there
Wow Steve, What a great welcome you got from the Stewardess ! She must have thought you were D.I. Jimmy Perez from Shetland to get that Kiss !!😉
Another great trip report, You are an inspiration to so many Travellers, Well done.
Haha love it! :D
Thus spoken like a true Scotsman - every penny is a prisoner. Another excellent video as always. Thank you for one of my weekend highlights.
Haha so true mate! :D
That welcome and kiss was worth the upgrade!!
I live in the greater Seattle area and want to visit Scotland.
Amazing review. Loved that you tried the bike. Subscribed.
Welcome to the US Steve! I hope you enjoyed your stay here.
Thank you! all too short a stay!
Hello Steve, just found your channel - thanks for the brilliant content. This video is class - you can tell you are appreciative of the upper class experience which gets lost on some other channels! Hope you had a great time in Seattle. All the best mate 👍
Hey I really appreciate you watching and getting in touch! Welcome aboard, just don't be expecting too many business class flights around here :D Have a great weekend!
Lucky you Steve, your vids are very informative and interesting, so keep it up, all the best John T.
Cheers John! Yeah, really did get lucky with this one, maybe never again, but you've got to grab these opportunities when they arise :)
Steve, we live in Bremerton, WA just a ferry ride away from Seattle. It would be great to meet up while you are here.
Ah that's a shame, it takes a while for the videos to make it to the channel, so I'm home already! I fancied taking the Bremerton ferry (the route looked more interesting than Bainbridge) but the weather forecast put me off on the ONE day I was there. Would LOVE to come back and spend more time in your wonderful part of the world!
@@steve-marsh We will be leaving for our winter home in the Philippines soon, but if you get this way next year, we should meet up. If we get your way, which we would like to do one day, we should meet up.
