  • With a very high tide and the close proximity to Storm Ophelia, I decided to go down to Burry Port Harbour to capture some video footage.
I was unable to walk at times due to the strength of the winds coming in from the Atlantic, and was covered in sand on the way to the Harbour. Exhilarating and uncomfortable with hand holding the camera very difficult at times. I've not added any music, as the natural sounds make it more realistic. Sit back and enjoy.

To think how long you've been on RUclips Bob and the fact your channel is still going strong amazes me. It's incredible.

Dramatic scenes from your home town Bob and very well captured. Quite a contrast to some of the tranquil scenes we have seen from Burry Port in the past. Regards, Jeff.

It certainly was Jeff, first time that I've been unable to fight against a strong wind....Regards...Bob

Good capture Bob. The only excitement we had in London was the weird orange sky. I well remember 1987 and the chaos that caused down here. Cheers, Dave.

Thanks Dave, we had that strange morning light here in West Wales as well, it then cleared as the winds got stronger throughout the day. 1987 was a more extreme weather storm...Regards...Bob.

Great footage our Bob.....You had it a lot worse than We did...Nowhere near as Windy...It was just that weird Sky where the Sun was obscured by Sand from Europe....spooky....Well done for going out and capturing this dramatic video....Best wishes...Steve.

Thanks Steve, the further West you went, the worse it became, as you say the morning light was weird Had to capture these conditions, as they were quite rare...Best wishes....Bob

The opening shots of the sand blowing about reminded me of the sand storms we got when we lived in Aden Bob,we got the high winds and the dust cloud that covered the cars and the sun,it was orange or red at times,strange!.......Regards Chris.

It was like that in the morning Chris, yellow/orange light which cleared, then the winds whipped up to Gale force winds...Regards...Bob

That was hard work Bob videoing in that breeze lol. Did go to the sea front ourselves.well done capturing around the harbour. Best wishes C&A

It certainly was C&A, I just couldn't walk past the Lighthouse because the wind was too strong to do it safely. Glad you returned safely from your venture out as well...Regards...Bob

We had it pretty rough here also through the night. A few evergreens in pots were blown over but easily rectified when it calms down. You are lucky that you did not have a fall with the wind so strong. Regards, Mike.

It was a nasty storm Mike, as you noted, it was very difficult to stand still at times, and when near the Lighthouse I just couldn't move forwards at all....Regards...Bob

Looks pretty wild there. I've just come back from a walk along Swansea seafront; still cleaning the sand out of my ears!

It was certainly wild, and like you, I'm still finding sand in places it just shouldn't be....Bob

Luckily, we have escaped very lightly on the East coast, Bob, unlike the 1987 hurricane. Looks like the harbour breakwaters have done a good job, protecting the boats within. Keep safe....Mervyn

We didn't have it as bad as they did further West Mervyn, but it's the first time I can remember being unable to walk into the winds, they were that strong. Thanks as always for your support...Regards...Bob

Yes Bob nature does its thing for sure.
The west end of Toronto got hit big time with many trees and hydro lines down with a freak storm that went through.

I bet those dunes were a different shape to how they were before. There was a flood warning because of High Tides round here, but I don't think it could have come to anything because I haven't heard anything about it. What sort of speed was the wind there?

    • @robmasterman
      @robmasterman  7 лет назад

The high tide and wind at its strongest at around 17.00, the exact wind speed I don't know, but it's the first time in my 70 years that I couldn't walk against the wind when trying to get to the South side of the lighthouse.

Did your camera lens survive the shot-blasting, Bob?

    • @robmasterman

I was very careful to protect the camera by having the wind behind me Chris, surprisingly it fared well, although my pockets and ears not so....Regards...Bob
