As a lifelong Metroid fan, hearing that you hit Zero Mission and Dread so hard fills me with joy. One more Metroid fan to add to the couple thousand of us! :p
(That was hyperbole, but prior to Dread, Metroid games never sold well, so it often feels like there are sadly very few of us. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve heard someone say they know about Samus mostly from Smash and have never played a Metroid game. Fortunately, it’s amazing how many people have started jumping on the train with Dread!)
As a warning, most people will tell you that Super Metroid is the best, but be prepared to have some major whiplash after coming off of Zero Mission and Samus Returns. It’s from the SNES era and has never been given an updated rerelease, so it will feel very slow and outdated. The controls for aiming diagonally and switching weapons especially will take some time to get used to. I personally only got around to finishing it the day before Dread came out, so I can speak from experience. But it’s worth sticking it out, and don’t be afraid to use a guide or look up a video when you get lost! Fusion is more in line with Zero Mission, although it runs a bit slower and is much more linear and story-focused.

Bamco nailed last year with 2 banger titles.
Still haven't played Arise but I went out of my way to play Scarlet Nexus, to the point that I even got the platinum for it.
In general my list of last year was kinda short due to me focusing a lot on playing RPGs recently but I will still make it here.
1- Scarlet Nexus: Also my surprise of last year, the demo was nice but I wasn't expecting the gameplay to be THAT GOOD, also too many best girls, can't choose one)
2- CrossCode: As a .hack fan I was curious about this title being a sort of MMO simulation. Loved everything about it. I still need to play the DLC chapter but just like with Scarlet, I went out of my way to get the platinum for this game. It meant a lot for me.
3- Psychonauts 2: I was waiting for this game since the crowdfunding campaign was created. Played it, loved every single minute of it
4- Trails from Zero and Trails to Azure: Since 2019 I started playing the Trails series alternating it with other games and this year (and a couple of days of 2022 because of my job) I managed to finally play and finish the Crossbell duology. They are very solid games and even with a couple of things that bugged me I still had a great time with both of them. I can't wait for the official western release of Zero (hopefully it's still on Fall of this year)
5- Sakura Wars: Not really a great experience but still enjoyable, the new chara design worked fine. Maybe the whole story was a but too short but still an ok experience.
6- Under Night In-Birth: probably the game I've played less in this list due to me not being good with competitive/cooperative stuff and being a very bad fighting game player, I still enjoyed what I've played as an Akatsuki main. This year I'm trying to find time to try the new game created by the developer of this (Melty Blood Type Lumina) but I'm kinda busy with other stuff......

Fantastic vid! ^_^ Loved seeing the number 1 pick, NEO TWEWY is also my game of the year, and your high praise of Scarlet Nexus makes me wanna check it out. I let it pass me by earlier this year, but it sounds like a super promising time. :)
    Top 5 that I played in 2021:
    5. Gonna cheat and say the FFXIII trilogy. No one game stood out to me as EXCELLENT in its own right, and yet, the characters, world, gameplay and stories from all 3 games really have stuck with me. I wouldn't by any stretch call them masterpieces, but it was still a very wonderful time for me.
    4. Ratchet and Clank Rift Apart. Thoroughly enjoyed it from start to finish it. If game feel and how much I was obsessed with a game while I was playing it were my main criteria, this might be my number 1; such fantastic gameplay, story, characters, graphics, the whole shebang. It hasn't quite stuck with me the same way the other games have on the list have though; don't think about it much nowadays now that I've beat it, though I'd be there day 1 for the next entry. Very solid experience.
    3. Metroid Dread. Gameplay was less exciting and moment-to-moment action packed then Rift Apart. But, I enjoyed exploring the environments more, Samus felt better to control, bosses gave me a fun challenge and I loved seeing the conclusion to the 2D games. Great stuff.
    2. The Great Ace Attorney Chronicles. While it had its slow moments, the story and characters generally had me gripped from beginning to end in both games. Even though I'd already played GTAA 1 through a fan translation, the quality of the localization and having an awesome upscale to the graphics, presentation and soundtrack made such a difference and allowed me to re-immerse myself quite easily. Instantly became my new favorite entry in one of my all-time favorite series, and I really hope Capcom gives us more in this vein going forward ^_^
    1. Neo TWEWY. Don't know if I can say it any better than you did Zaffre. Long-awaited sequel, wasn't sure it's match the original and much to my surprise, it absolutely surpassed it in almost every regard. Soundtrack is a banger, entire cast is pretty awesome, the writing is so sharp, gameplay is addicting... it was just a thrill ride from beginning to end :) Bar maybe the Scramble Slams. Really looking to continuing my replay of this game; beat it on Switch, now doing the same on PS5.

Nice to hear some love for FFXIII! I was never able to beat the final boss of 13-2, so I never really moved on to Lightning Returns, but for the most part I really enjoyed my time with the first two games, especially as far as the characters go. I’d love to see some iteration of the super unique battle system return in a future FF game too, as I loved class-switching in the middle of combat to adjust my lineup to match phases of battles.
It’s also great to continue seeing love for Great Ace Attorney! I’m a relatively recent fan of the series, only starting it after Dual Destinies came out, but it quickly became one of my favorite series of all time. I’m finishing up Spirit of Justice right now, just having started the DLC case, and I’ve been SO hyped to get to GAA! Spirit of Justice feels like the weakest entry of the series for me, so hearing people continue to praise the two new games gives me that drive to keep going!

@@Road_to_Dawn Glad to find another FFXIII fan ^_^ Completely understand not being able to beat the final boss to XIII-2; that was HARD. I had to go back, go find some monsters, grind a bit, then try another 2 or 3 times to finally beat it. Great battle system though, and it'd be fun to see it's return in some way shape or form 🙂
Also glad to meet someone else who appreciates the greatness of the Ace Attorney franchise 😁 spirit of justice was fantastic; enjoy the rest of the DLC case and TGAA, when you get around to it. 🙂 What's your favorite game in the series so far?

    • @Road_to_Dawn
      @Road_to_Dawn 2 года назад

@@GentlemanGamer94 Yeah! Even if I think Spirit of Justice is the weakest, it's still a great game, and there are no bad games in the series. I've actually forgotten a lot about each of the games because it's been a few years now since I started and my memory is absolutely terrible (I'm looking forward to replaying them sometime!), but the final case that sticks out in my mind the most was the final case in Justice for All. That said, as for games as a whole, Trials and Tribulations was incredible the whole way through and might be my favorite, but it's really neck-and-neck with Dual Destinies. And Apollo Justice had an amazing ending too. All of the games have great final cases, really! I'd say Trails and Tribulations might be my favorite, with Dual Destinies right behind. What about you?
And yeah, I had such a hard time with XIII-2 lol. Each attempt at the final boss literally took me half an hour. I want to go back and try the whole game again sometime; I've seen people recommend using a chocobo for the final boss, so I may have to go out of my way to work on that and make sure I'm ready lol

I am excited for Cogen: Sword of Rewind and Gunvolt iX2. I might get Blaster Master Zero 3 someday since I already have the other 2 games.
Also, my top 10 games that I played this year are:
    1. G Darius - this game is the most atmospheric boss fights I have ever seen. The capturing and alpha beam mechanic on this game is very satisfying.
    2. Trouble Witches - this game is my official first 1 credit clear of a shoot em up genre. The emphasis of meter management on this game made it very manageable for new comers.
    3. Blaster Master Zero 2 - I wanna replay this game so bad again. I really dont know what kind of magic Inti Creates put on this series but it somehow connected to me very well. I also played this game before the first game.
    4. Devil Survivor Overclocked - technically, I wanted to disqualify this game since I mostly played it on 2022 but my short time for this game during 2021 had been very awesome. The story, replayability and freedom easily made me love this masterpiece.
    5. Sora - another game that should be disqualified since I started playing this game during very late 2020 but I mostly played it in 2021. This game is what I will always consider the best game I have ever played. Describing this game is way too difficult for me. The game is tough as balls like most shmups
    6. Etrian Odyssey 2 Untold - this game is very very fun but also a total mess in terms of proper balance as a dungeon crawler. The fact that you got tons of ways to customize your party and bosses are just a bunch of hp sponges, it somehow provided you a very nice target practice for your stupid team builds. Something you wont be able to do in most rpg.
    7. "QP Shooting Dangerous" and "Blue Revolver" - I had to rank both of these vertical shmup because they are equally fun for me.
    8. Battle Bakraid - kamakazee!!!!
    9. Deathsmiles - a well made Halloween themed bullet hell. Dodging big floating balls feel satisfying on this game.
    10. Bloodstained:Curse of the Moon - game is fantastic.

I wouldn't say that I'm surprised by Arise being on the list but not number 1 mainly because Vesperia is your favorite game by a clear mile. :D Arise was a very successful game, but it's different from past entries in enough ways that it'll never hit the same target. If Vesperia's your perfect Tales game, then Arise will only hit somewhere high on the list. I'm glad you at least liked the deviation because I definitely want more of it too. :) The reason it's my all-time favorite is because the past games were less perfect for me, so Arise hit way closer to that target. :D I really do love the main part of the story and its themes and (how it actually changed my life a bit), and while the second season was less organized, well... taking inventory of most of the Tales games I've played I actually find it hard to come across one that doesn't... take some hits for some part of the story near the end. They seem to have at least some trouble with that on a regular basis. XD (more on that later)
What I wasn't expecting was you getting around to Scarlet Nexus. I knew you wanted to play it, but didn't think you had yet. :D It's my second favorite game now, and definitely way up there on pure gameplay. On the more story-centric side, I found the characters to be the bigger draw, with all of their stories relating to life in a permanently connected world, tying in with the whole 'red strings' thing the game is named after. Some, especially were incredibly relatable, others were things people may need to think about more than we do. As with the Tales games, I tend to have more interest in what these characters do next and what they think moreso than the main plot details. I love these guys. :) (For reference, if you don't have them yet, the DLC events largely center around combinations of character interactions you haven't seen as much of in the main game.) It might also be interesting to see a video relating to skits in Arise and the similarly formatted scenes in Scarlet Nexus since there are a lot of differing opinions on them, and being somewhere in the middle myself, I think it's mainly because it's a new idea that needed more time to perfect before it made its way into the games.
I think the reason both stories had their issues was because Namco has a tendency toward strong 'Point A - to Point B' writing. They know what they want to say and what they want to happen at certain points, but tend to fill in the blanks between those points with whatever the hell needs to happen to segue into that next objective, and that clearly doesn't always...often... work. XD Whether they need to fill in a big gap in knowledge toward the end of the story, or hit 27 different main plot events and revelations in just a couple of chapters, it really is a case of needing to let the plot grow naturally and maybe even ditch some choices or goals in favor of focusing on others.

Though I personally don't mind, I can understand why people may have a problem with the skit system of Tales of Arise. Instead of having anime models of the characters like previous games, Arise instead uses the 3d models from the game and use a comic-book style. 3D models can only have so much emotional range and body expression as opposed to the anime artstyle.
However, I think the reason why they decided to take that style is because they would've had to make six skit models for Alphen:
    1. The ragged clothes he wore at the prologue of the game
    2. His ocean blue battle garb (with the full mask)
    3. The ocean blue battle garb (with the broken mask)
    4. His main outfit: the Sincleaver Armor
    5. The armor without his mask
    6. And finally, his Sovereign outfit
This can also apply to Shionne and maybe Law but with less costumes.
This is only a situation near the end of the game when the party obtains the spaceship and head to Rena after the events of Lenegis, when more sidequests have been accessable on Dahna. If the player wants to, they can head back to Dahna and clear up the sidequests even though storywise, the party has little to no reason to head back to Dahna. However, the game can't be sure whenever customes the characters at a specific point. There are also optional skits, mainly for cooking, camp conversations, and certain sidequests, which the game can't be certain whenever they take place.
Anyway, the point that I was trying to make is that they would have to make two choices: either they would take the Tales of Zestiria route and change certain skits depending on the certain situation, such as character changes, and there is a hefty amount of optional skits, or the route they took and have the skits display 3D models, where the game can be more flexible with the costumes. Though, it's not perfect since depending on the costumes, it can cause some clipping issues or obscure certain panels. (For example, the wing accessories)
However, that's my opinion and I was just speculating. Also, sorry about spoilers for those who haven't played Tales of Arise.

Glad to see NEO TWEWY get love this year, feels like it didn't get the attention it deserved, and even some that played and enjoyed it have moved on from it. It's in my top five this year for sure. Funny story, after I'd beat the final boss (on Switch) my game crashed between the cutscenes, meaning I'd effectively lost my progress and didn't reach the endgame... but honestly I didn't care because I knew I'd eventually double dip and get the ps4 version too, which I'm playing through right now. I would say that if you don’t want to be ruined by a game and have a story that doesn’t waste your time I honestly recommend trails series a series that is really under rated more then tales and it is very heavy with good world building and character development but, if that isn’t your style then I wouldn’t recommend it cause that is it the combat is decent and it does get better the further you go into the series. what really make the series good is the story and that the series is 10 games in already and it’s all connected to everything and I mean everything.

If you want to play Metroid Dread, I really recommend reading the Metroid Manga before, an English fan translation should be easy enough to find.

NEO has no right to be as good as it is, it's scary how good it is. And that OST is even better than Final Remix!

honestly they just don't hold as much weight as they used to - my top priority is gameplay and replay value at this point. no particular reason, it's just the kinda guy i'm becoming

Calling people trash over their favorite games isn't right no matter what the game is.
A game doesn't have to be terrible in everyone else's eyes for you to hate it. I dislike some really popular and excellent games.
