  • I am making a series of videos available to you to learn Amazon Web services and in this session we are going to talk about AWS ElasticCache - Redis
Amazon ElastiCache is a web service that makes it easy to set up, manage, and scale a distributed in-memory data store or cache environment in the cloud.
It provides a high-performance, scalable, and cost-effective caching solution. At the same time, it helps remove the complexity associated with deploying and managing a distributed cache environment.
It will allow user to keep data on disk with a point in time snapshot
It allows to execute a group of commands as an isolated & atomic operation
    It doesn’t have native clustering
We can cache bigger values in Redis, Values upto 512MB per key
Powerful data types and powerful commands to leverage them (Hashes, sorted sets, Lists and more)

Your presentation is pretty clear and thanks for the video. Can you also explain how to connect from lambda code to Redis Cache using redis library.

Is it possible to create a IAM role and assign to the ec2 instances for redis connectivity?

you first add the port 6379 in ec2 SG which is not required

Multiple Tomcat are connected to ElasticCache but why sessions terminated across all tomcat when a single application restarts?

thanks for the demo, I have a question. I'm working on the IOS app when I launch the app. First step is to call the lambda function to run some script, which basically checks the few tables in RDS my-sql database and provides the (keys)information to the client-side, it downloads the list of images from S3 bucket. We have to run this script every time the user launch the app first time, but the problem is script is causing the lag to launch the application. I'm thinking of using the ElasticCache, schedule the script every day at some time and keep the Keys information for client-side ready available, when the user launches the application. Is this a workable solution, have you got any suggestions. Thanks in advance

I was happy when you created an ec2 instance to access redis through vpc. But allowing all inbound connections on the redis instance is a bad idea. If you were going to do that, then there's no need of even creating an ec2 instance. You could've connected to it directly from your local machine.
Great video, but people, don't follow this security recommendation.

you are delivering the wrong concept of security Group in case of accessing the Redis from ec2 simple thing is allow 6379 in redis SG against ec2 SG

You should NOT allow access to 0.0.0.0. Your EC2 and Redis are in different security groups, so you couldn't connect. Opening the port to everyone is a security nightmare.

Wendy, the presenter is clearly a non-English speaker. His mother tongue is not English. He tried his best to explain the concepts in your language, English. You should appreciate him for the effort. Instead, you ridiculed him. To challenge him, try learning his mother tongue and explain this tutorial in his language.
