  • Ilona has already learnt how to be relaxed while shooting on the ground, on the field and learnt separately to maintain the canter with no reins. Now it has been time to take the next steps! 🥰
The focus is still of course on the horse and not on the archery technique - that I will add later when I know she fully understands the job and is happy about it. 🥰

Very good well done 👏, Mihai sensei, you said to choose a horse with a brave mind and calm . Now how do you test a horse to find out if it has those qualities?

Actually I said, wifey Katariina :D But yes, I do test them for these qualities (Mihai rides whatever he is given, hah, but also prefers brave horses with sensible mind) to see if they spook very easily and how they canter, how they behave without reins etc. It's much easier to pick a suitable horse for the task than to try to force one unsuitable to do something they are not really good for.

Hey, those are pretty neat targets or would be good for backing smaller targets. What are they made from?

What qualities do you look for, when choosing a horse for horseback archery?

I would look for a horse with brave mindset, nice canter... especially the horses who are very spooky about sounds and movements can be tricky for this sport or at least takes a very long time to school them.

@@LAHBA Right, that makes sense. So very calm and level-headed.
