Wow! I can't believe this place isn't chock-full of tourists. Such a beauty with such affordable prices... A total gem find. Thank you mate. Great video...
14:55 YES this is the most charming village I've ever laid eyes upon haha. My Indonesian husband and I moved here in April last year to live permanently (after dreaming about it for a decade) and still wake up every day in awe. Every day, we get on our little pink scooter and just drive around Tuk Tuk - and every day we say the same thing: how beautiful it is and how we can't believe we get to live here! Roy's Pub is the best little pub in the world - we go there every Friday for acoustic music (sometimes on Saturdays, but that gets a bit rowdier!) And Coffee2Go has lovely coffee and is run by the nicest Batak woman, Lamtiar. Love seeing Tuk Tuk through your eyes - it looks so peaceful! A different story over Christmas and New Year's, when the village is rather chaotic, but still gorgeous. Can't wait to see your next one! Horas!
that's awesome, may i ask whats it costing you guys to live there each month, and did you buy a home? Also, do you feel you can get everything on the island itself, or do you need trips to the mainland a lot? I'm looking at these different locations in SE Asia and so many look incredible, but something about this lake village stands out to me among them, almost like a mountains vibe mixed with a beach vibe with seemingly great weather and nice people. More chill than the big beach spots, hard to believe almost how calming and relaxing it seems...
I always watch till the end STL.... I don`t want to miss anything..... One Month?? It would be a pleasure to stay there for a Month.... What an Amazing place to visit....In fact, what an Amazing place to live!!... Stunning.... You Keep impressing me with the places you find.... Have a Fantastic 2023..... :-)))
"Watched to the end!" I am very grateful for your videos showing me places I didn't even know I didn't know. You are helping me make decisions about my later years. Thank you!
Thank you for talking and letting us other Canadians, understand what is what so we can understand what is going on. Thanks. Dan in Edmonton ,Alberta Canada.
Hiya STL. Great tour around. Another lovely place to stay. Great to see the drone footage. Great to hear the history. Cool cravings. Bless those people running to get out of your shot. Lovely people. So friendly. Great video. I always watch till the end. Liked and shared.
Dude! After a year of watching your videos wanting to follow your steps,we finally arrived to lake Toba, it's everything you have shown and more! Thanks so much for the amazing info and good vibes! 👏👏👏
Im an Indonesian myself looking for information about Toba Lake and couldn't find one thats as informative as yours. Thankyou for making this video. You're awsome❤
Wow, what an oasis of calm and beautiful sounds of nature at its finest. Your endeavours to bring us this wonderful world with amazing commentary are truly appreciated. ❤️
Definitely watched to the end as always, the birdsong is lovely, could just sit and listen for hours and views are STUNNING 😍. Look forward to the next video, thanks for taking us along 👍🏻
I love this channel and how it relieves me of any negative emotions when I first wake up in the morning. It always puts me in tune for a good day, and it always has me on my phone checking out airline prices.
Of course I watched to the end! I love your vids man! Is nice to see other parts of Indonesia since I didn't leave Bali. You're certainly making me wish I did......ah well, next time!
Absolutely watched to the end! In your previous vid, I thought, "this is really beautiful, but what is there to do?" This vid answered my question. Loved the museum - how fascinating! And the village is so charming with heaps of great places to eat, drink and relax. I think this might be the hidden gem (at least for westerners) that I've been searching for. Thanks so much for sharing ❤️
Very stunning and peaceful.....All of your videos of Indonesia are really good. Correction, all of your videos on any destination are always worth watching. Thanks for sharing. I always watch to the end.
have been following your journey. you find such beautiful places to explore, so peaceful and lush. thank you for your great vids. always enjoy. AMAZING
Absolutely amazing, I am blown away by this place. Absolutely beautiful, and you've done a great job of showing it. Definitely on my go to list. Think I could easily spend a month in one of those hotel rooms looking at the lake and chilling out. aka JG in TX.
Thanks for sharing this video. Linda and I are currently in Jomtien. Always excited to see what you're up to. Quite an interesting option for travel. Can't wait to see more. 🙏
Beautiful place…..what a great view with the drone….roads weren’t crowded so it looked easy to ride the motorbike, looked like there was plenty to do there…..super video STL!
Once again, another great video. Your videos are well researched, good commentary and excellent tips/insights. Appreciate all your hard work - Happy New Year from Toronto!
I know exactly where I will be going during the peak of the hot season in Thailand, just next door to the gorgeous Lake Toba and the Carolina resort.. Beautiful!!!
@@SideTripLife Our pleassure, mate! We have been following you for years now, and have actually stayed at several places You have shared, specially in Thailand. Next trip will start in Bali the 7th of feb. and follow some of your footsteps for a month. What an extraordinary place STL! Thank you for venturing to such out of the way hidden gems for us all to experience with you! You are "The Travel Motivater" !!! ;)
We stayed at Carolina Cottages about 5 years ago. The rooms up on the hill have the most amazing view, and at certain times of the year, the lack of aircon isnt really a problem. Seems they have done some additions around the place since we stayed there.
Sounds like you had a lovely stay Maxine. The roof deck on top of the new addition suite rooms isn't unsightly and pleased they kept the classic look/feel of the original rooms (just with a few upgrades in some). For sure A/C not required, perfect climate.
I think years before the pandemic, Carolina was the no.1 in tripadvisor for place to stay in Tuk-tuk area. And looking at your video, now it's even bigger n better.
Amazing - plus the $16 bungalow? Damn. I love my cold water but I might be adventurous with that insanely cute cottage. It's not like it's that hot that you deserately need A/C!
There's a huge map of this lake somewhere there. That was some beautiful map of lake toba. It would be nice to see that again. Lake Toba is also the deepest lake in the world.
i hope you will go to Padang and do a video on Minangkabau culture.. their royal architecture is truly unique and quite spectacular.. you have a good eye for architecture.. those batak motifs on those batak building are almost similar to the indigenous people of Sarawak and Sabah state in malaysia several thousand mile to the east.. i also notice those polygonol stone construction.. i do wonder what connection they have with south America ancient civilisation.. fascinating indeed..
LOVE Padang food (see in next vid;) and absolutely will visit upcoming. Connections... actually in the scene with the Batak 'totem pole' I talked about Thor Heyerdahl's amazing Kon-Tiki expedition in 1947 seeking such connections (but as this vid was already so long that bit ended up on the cutting room floor in my edit...)
Wow you finally made it to the most amazing place! I heard about this area from a friend who traveled all over Indonesia about 30 years ago. Not many locations in the world have that other worldly feeling, I loved it there. Is there still a local tribe that only live on the island? I remember seeing them selling artifacts that they made wearing traditional clothes in the local markets. I had a friend who spent many months travelling all over Indonesia about 30 years ago and when he was in Sulawesi spent a month living with a local tribe. He went to the Togian Islands too, had amazing wild life and snorkelling with beautiful coral reefs 😊
Hi Roy. There's still communities living in traditional Batak Toba houses etc but I reckon most have electric etc these days. Other Batak communities throughout the region include the Karo, Mandailing, Simalungun and Pakpak tribes.
