Congratulations _Dr._ Sofia Sheikh on you PhD, 👏👏🎉 I think listened to you before, most probably on SETI RUclips itself or may somewhere else. Thanks Franck and SETI. Again a good and informative talk.

I love the fact that she cant let it go, continuing to look for the broken thing potentially creating drifting signals so that this does not happen in the future. Its a true testament to what a fantastic researcher DR sheikh is.
I personally am not yet entirely convinced that it was definitively human interference (although, I do find DR sheikhs paper very convincing) and was worried that BLC1 may have been dismissed prematurely merely due to asccosiation with manmade signals (if we dont take any human like signals seriously we are ignoring a non insignificant amount of the RF spectrum) but knowing that she is still looking for the culprit (just to be sure) is incredibly reassuring, if its found we can stop it from polluting radio astronomy further.
This was super informative and was explained very well in simple terminology, well done.

Did they ever explain why the signal disappeard as soon as the telescope was pointed away from Proxima Cen?

Is there any way to make sure that certain signal came from somewhere else rather than from our technology with our current observation tools? Or do we need to place our observation tools on the far side of the moon? Are there any plans for placing such telescope/telescopes already set in motion at least in terms of funding? We as human species don't want to go METI because it seems reasonable. We should probably assume that other civilizations will have similar approach, how on earth will we ever detect anything? I can imagine that there probably are civilizations far more advanced from our own and still not willing to announce their presence simply because "you never know". If we are to ever detect any signal it's probably going to be a signal from civilization on the brink of death having nothing to lose simply screaming its last words to the universe. Sad.

So was just wondering, Can't we get a ML algorithm to check these signals?

good to see these signals being discussed somewhere.

Has anyone checked with Jodi Foster?

I think with the advancement in human technologies, this would be the greatest challenge for an radio astronomers to detect faint signals of distinct solar system's. It would be better if we plan for telescope above the Earth which will minimize the ground interference.
Seems like there are aliens between us and we are living in Simulation 😶

BLC-1 is the signal in the movie "Inception", signaling the end of our timeline, dream-time. Guess someone influential has understood what sound of the shofar is all about. With this new publication, it becomes obvious, that we wouldn't know anything about BLC-1 at all, if there wasn't a leak to the press. Oh well, at least some better algorithms in the end.

can we discuss the 240 something sun like stars that seemed to have a laser signature within their light spectrum - was just a glitch?

I'm sure black holes and whatever else an advanced civilization might be interested in also have drift rates.

Ah, a bit disappointing... was hoping for something more exotic than the neighbor's badly made router or whatever it was. Drifting in frequency when it was heating up or cooling down maybe depending on when the detection was made?

It's too bad that terrestrial interference cannot be filtered out any better than it apparently currently can.

How can SETI say "We have no idea what it was." but then in the same breath say "We determined it was terrestrial" 😆 ??
If that's the closing statement then they know what it was, and that's the final answer. Scrub the blackboard... next project!
The fact that they can pick up drift signals, 60 times that resemble an electronic device emitting signals from four light-years away that are mimicking a cellphone, or communication device, but somehow reduce this down to the idea that only earthlings have the capability and knowledge for these sort of technologies is either hilarious, or their brainwaves were zapped and redirected.
They claim to be looking for was another highly, advanced intelligent life, but what they're really hopeful in finding and discovering in their search is the signal of a primitive civilization. They want (mudpeople) nothing more advanced than the invention of a tomahawk, or sending tribal smoke signals for communication. Something easy, nonthreatening, and less complex than earth humans. 😆 But they're certainly are not looking for intimidation coming from another advanced intelligence. 😆
