SMART car on American highways. SAFE. American drivers of SUVs. Texting, talking, dancing, singing, fighting.... DEADLY. The 'OTHER GUY' is always the one we have to watch out for. That is why most of us - don't TAILGATE - don't daydream and don't take our attention from the 'dummies' in the other vehicles. DOT calls it 'defensive driving' - we call it, "living to see another day".
Crashes like this happen in real life very often, which is one of the reasons that off-set crash tests are used so commonly. I like the Smart, it has a variety of benefits, but comparative safety is not one of them. To admit that it is, in most circumstances, less safe than most other new cars is not the same as 'hating'.
would love to have a smaller car than I have right now (am driving a Skoda Octavia), and I can tell you the Skoda isn't really a big cra, but it's f***ing hard to find a parking space in the historic city center or at the university; would be much easier with a Smart; And for real: driving a Smart doesn't automaticly mean that you will crash
And for real: driving a Smart doesn't automaticly mean that you will crash . But if you crash you are doomed . the smart held it Structure very well , However if there was real people inside they would probably Dead , The G forces on the smart were catastrophic , one sec was going at 30 mph , another was going in Reverse tumbling like a ball . All the Smart did to the Mercedes was to slow it down 0:58
Yes, that was the 2008 verdict that was revised to "Poor" following the 2009 test that I mentioned before. I don't doubt these are pretty neat cars but... I wouldn't buy one for my kid.
Not really, its a matter of inertia (not about the cars external damage). I am pretty sure the accelerometer data from the smart car dummy would indicate a near fatal head trauma.
it was me.. duhh.. I didn't post this to give you a meaningful result, just to show a crash-test... but if you insist; you're better of in a Merc crashing into a Smart than in a Smart crashing into a Merc.
Not so much: "in an April 2009 40 mph frontal offset crash test between a Fortwo and a Mercedes C class, "the Smart went air- borne and turned around 450 degrees" causing "extensive intrusion into the space around the dummy from head to feet". The IIHS (American standard) rated the Smart Fortwo "Poor," noting that "Multiple injuries, including to the head, would be likely for a real-world driver of a Smart in a similar collision." (source: wikipedia)
Why crash test the smart? no need, what a waste, the drivers are so smart, and they would never even scratch the car. even if you meant to hit that car purposely, you will miss for 80% sure, it is that small.
who the fucks drives those mini smart cars this days..with 18 wheelers and big trucks out there....arent those things meant for the future when all cars are small...i dont know 2030 or something......????
@CommentClown dude, what the hell? why would deaf ppl be offended by the word dummy? being deaf is not the same as being dumb.. & if we would call them Crash test Retards all the Retards would be offended right?? what a dumb petition...
light travels faster than sound, remember?
