A great walkthrough. Managed to get 2:24:36 thanks to it. Some additional advises to give for people trying this out. 1) Being close to a zombie and aiming up has a change to blow their head off (I believe it is around 60 - 70 %), also it generally does a bit more damage than firing at them straight 2) You can try to avoid the Big Spider boss fight entirely. Make sure you have your starting knife equipped, avoid the spider come to the door and start cutting. You might need to avoid it some more. This is great, since if you pull this off you might save a bit more time, but what is more important is you will have enough rounds to clear a lot more zombies later in the lab, probably not needing to use the Canteen at all 3) I generally find Shotgun to be the best for taking out the chimeras. Also, you only need to kill one in that boiling rooms, the one next to where you get the fuel tank. All others you can fairly easily run past. 4) I am not sure about this one, but I think that your character is slightly faster if it does not have anything equipped. Also I find it a bit easier to navigate and avoid attacks this way. So for everyone, just stick to it and I am sure that you will make it!

Man I can't just consistently dodge every zombie and not pick up any health items and run around with NO MEANS TO DEFEND MYSELF for the entire game, i'm just a person :((( this is my saving grace thank you so much
Ya that’s exactly how i did it on my first try 2hrs and 45min with the perfect ending saved everyone so i got handgun and rocket launcher in one go wish they gave the magnum like in psone

Am not really a fan of IGN to say the least , but videos like this deserves a lot of credit, it takes a lot of effort and time to come up with a safer route than the usual speedrun routes that goes under 3 hours I really appreciate it man , cheers!
I got 3:05. As much as I enjoyed this walkthrough, I can honestly say that most of my time was spent fastforwarding this video everytime I realized I found more efficient routes, evaded enemies, and especially at the end when I realized that incendiary rounds are WAAAAAYY faster than burning every zombie one by one in the lab area. My recommendation is that you have your laptop right in front of you, and that you have a friend there to fastforward or rewind the video for you so you can keep your hands on the controller. Also, lock your pets away. My cat jumped on the keyboard once and skipped to 30 minutes ahead during the first hunter encounter.

Thank you so much for this video. I was following along with it, and pausing constantly, while I was doing my playthrough. Surprisingly I clocked in at only 3:18, and as I said, that was with multiple stops to either rewind the vid or let it catch up. I was only after the Samurai Edge for this particular run so I came out alright, but the guide was great and extremely helpful.
If you follow this video and use the proper difficulty, you shouldn't have any issues with getting the rocket launcher. Just play along with the video. He makes enough mistakes that it should be really easy. I found myself waiting for the video to catch up lol
Why would you waste time in the lab to burn zombies if you used shotgun to kill'em?? Just wait for them to get close, point it up and blow their heads off. They not gonna come back as crimson head without the head :)

Doing this in 2019 on Xbox before I play thru RE2!! Awesome guide thanks! I had the pleasure of using this great guide but the pain of completing it in 3 hr 12 min!! Think lost some time on forgetting the fuel canteen at the mansion for use in the laboratory so had to go back. The rest must just been inefficient running and cut scenes. Although the running speed seems faster on pc...? Anyway great guide and you’re helping people years after you’ve made this!!

Plan of action. Never played the REmake, just on it now and enjoying it. Jill on normal first, nice and slow and since she's traditionally the easier scenario. This was the last thing I had to do on this game, I decided to knock the dust off the old GameCube and give it one last playthrough to celebrate RE's 20th Anniversary. It's nice to see IGN complete an actually useful guide like this. I can't tell you how many times I have seen them do half-assed walkthroughs or commentaries. Damn I died at the first Lisa encounter lol I had orange health I thought I could tank a hit. I even had a first aid spray in my inventory but I figured "ill just dodge this hit, if I do get hit no big deal" but i died...
Mikubot I’ve done acts like that so many times throughout my resident evil career. I’ll be at orange or even yellow while fighting a boss and avoid consuming 1 of my few heals in my inventory and end up dead
I followed this step by step, with the saving too. Got it at 2:40. Then went through on hard with Chris and an infinite rocket launcher. This is a really good guide, thanks Jared :)
Just beat the game before New Years ended. Got 2:53:47 on mine thanks to the awesome walkthrough. I played this 3 times to get this damn rocket launcher and finally got it. Now I can actually enjoy the game and not feel rushed lol.

In the past i always have a tendency to not save just for being a badass try hard and always somehow get killed and had to restart all over again. Farthest i got without saving was that boulder in the caverns that i got killed from because i under turned the turn to avoid the boulder
2:34:20 - So first of all ty to the author for this guide. There are some suggestions from me,unequip your gun,you will run faster,at the beggining of the game,take only handgun ammo for zombies you need to kill as seen in this video,didn't have to use them in end game at all. Overall you can even save more times just to be safe,remember,you can always return to an old save and just redo it from there.
Andre 1999 maybe try quitting at the ending screen where your time is displayed by resetting your game/ system so you can backtrack and try again if that happens, i feel like being that close means its possible to change that to under 3 hours by going back to your last save
It's only a 60% chance to cap a zombie with the shotgun. So it's not exactly reliable. The assault shotgun is a bit better, though, with a 70% chance. The only weapon that caps zombies reliably is the magnum. Then again, you don't want to be wasting magnum rounds on mere zombies.
The reason shotgun shells are hidden behind the boulder, and there's crazy puzzles and stuff, because it's a test for the stars by Wesker, to test his bow's. It's all a test.
Excellent guide, your mistakes were actually a good thing; they gave me breathing room to sharpen my time. I had 15 saves but i kept reloading them to perfect the play in between them trying to stay ahead of you to ensure a victory.

Thanks to your playthrough and my constant viewing of speed runs, i completed this game in 2:31:20-something. I didn't bother killing most of the enemies you did because i learned that you can just slip past them.

But if you think about it the rocket launcher is still better because the self defense gun kills any non boss enemy in one hit while the rocket launcher kills any enemy in one hit.
I'd like to point some things on this video.. First, thank you for the ASMR of you drinking your energy drink. That was orgasmic to my ears. Second, ACID PLANTS DON'T DIE WITH ACID ROUNDS. Basic RE logic btw. And last but not least, watching you mistake made me think this is one of the most inspiring walkthrough videos I've ever watched. I liked this video. Helped me out a lot, and it also shows you can make a few mistakes and still make less than 3 minutes. I'm about to start my run now since this is the only time I can play 3 hours straight with no disturbances at all. I don't plan on saving
I used chris and I didn't pick up the shotgun, I waited until I got the other shotgun from Richard. I finished the game on a speed run with no saves at 2:25 :)
just finished here with 2h17min, plenty of time to spend 😃👍 this is a amazing guide to follow, specially in the beginning at the mansion (most confusing and problematic part for most people) here's a tip for anyone starting now: put your game language in japanese, all the screen text scrolls much faster and this saves a lot of time when picking up items and doing puzzles. of course you need to know what you're doing when choosing options for puzzles, combining items etc... but, if you're not that confident to play in japanese to save some extra time, just play normally on english, it's okay too 👍
Helpful tips: You run faster having no weapon equipped. Adapt to using both control styles, the dpad has the tank controls mapped to them, use this for hallways with annoying camera angles that turn ur character around and use the new control scheme for dodging zombies or instantly turning around.
I'm about to run through the HD version for the first time soon, and I want it to feel somewhat fresh so I'll probably wait to watch this after I beat it. With that being said, is it so wrong that I'm really glad that it's Jared? It seems like after Greg left that everybody tried to seriously ham it up besides people like Jared and Daemon... love those guys. I think that Max was able to fill the void that Greg left, but everyone else tried to overcompensate too. Anywho, Jared, YOU RULE! Can't wait to watch this in full soon :)

2hrs 29mins. Such a useful guide with plenty of wiggle room, I definitely recommend quitting after each save and watching ahead.

Just beat the game before New Years ended. Got 2:53:47 on mine thanks to the awesome walkthrough. I played this 3 times to get this damn rocket launcher and finally got it. Now I can actually enjoy the game and not feel rushed lol.

In the past i always have a tendency to not save just for being a badass try hard and always somehow get killed and had to restart all over again. Farthest i got without saving was that boulder in the caverns that i got killed from because i under turned the turn to avoid the boulder

2:34:20 - So first of all ty to the author for this guide. There are some suggestions from me,unequip your gun,you will run faster,at the beggining of the game,take only handgun ammo for zombies you need to kill as seen in this video,didn't have to use them in end game at all. Overall you can even save more times just to be safe,remember,you can always return to an old save and just redo it from there.

Andre 1999 maybe try quitting at the ending screen where your time is displayed by resetting your game/ system so you can backtrack and try again if that happens, i feel like being that close means its possible to change that to under 3 hours by going back to your last save
When killing zombies, if you aim up at close range with the shotgun, it has a high chance to blow apart their head.. thus no need to burn.
It's only a 60% chance to cap a zombie with the shotgun. So it's not exactly reliable. The assault shotgun is a bit better, though, with a 70% chance.
The only weapon that caps zombies reliably is the magnum. Then again, you don't want to be wasting magnum rounds on mere zombies.
The reason shotgun shells are hidden behind the boulder, and there's crazy puzzles and stuff, because it's a test for the stars by Wesker, to test his bow's. It's all a test.

Excellent guide, your mistakes were actually a good thing; they gave me breathing room to sharpen my time. I had 15 saves but i kept reloading them to perfect the play in between them trying to stay ahead of you to ensure a victory.

I wish there was a way to get an unlimited self defense gun 😂
But if you think about it the rocket launcher is still better because the self defense gun kills any non boss enemy in one hit while the rocket launcher kills any enemy in one hit.

I used chris and I didn't pick up the shotgun, I waited until I got the other shotgun from Richard. I finished the game on a speed run with no saves at 2:25 :)
just finished here with 2h17min, plenty of time to spend 😃👍 this is a amazing guide to follow, specially in the beginning at the mansion (most confusing and problematic part for most people)
here's a tip for anyone starting now: put your game language in japanese, all the screen text scrolls much faster and this saves a lot of time when picking up items and doing puzzles. of course you need to know what you're doing when choosing options for puzzles, combining items etc... but, if you're not that confident to play in japanese to save some extra time, just play normally on english, it's okay too 👍
Helpful tips:
You run faster having no weapon equipped.
Adapt to using both control styles, the dpad has the tank controls mapped to them, use this for hallways with annoying camera angles that turn ur character around and use the new control scheme for dodging zombies or instantly turning around.

I'm about to run through the HD version for the first time soon, and I want it to feel somewhat fresh so I'll probably wait to watch this after I beat it. With that being said, is it so wrong that I'm really glad that it's Jared? It seems like after Greg left that everybody tried to seriously ham it up besides people like Jared and Daemon... love those guys. I think that Max was able to fill the void that Greg left, but everyone else tried to overcompensate too. Anywho, Jared, YOU RULE! Can't wait to watch this in full soon :)
