One thing that separates Elton from a lot of textbook musicians is that he has an encyclopedic knowledge of music. He has a ton of information over many genres and eras of music.
It is so important that Music should be brought back in school and children are encouraged to sing again . Music is so uplifting everyone should join in some kind of music. Well done Elton .
The same thing happened here in the U.S. The Thatcher/Reagan era did a ton of damage to not just education, but also economically. In the long run that economic downturn combined with the destruction of our education systems has lead us all down this path toward fascism. Honestly I don't know the specifics of how this all played out across the pond, but the parallels are too close to deny. In particular the lack of linguistic literacy in both countries.
My daughter was so lucky to attend a public school that was an arts academy. Art played an important role there- especially music. It’s criminal to remove arts from public schools!
What an absolute Pro . They've asked him the same questions again and again and he never fails to impress. He's pure art and he is loved and loved, again and again ; )
aw, what a lovely interview! i want to hear that radio program when it happens... love hearing any of elton's musical choices - especially classical, since we don't hear them often!
Always loved him. My mother played his music when I was a tot. I had never really thought about it but after sing “Goodbye Norma Jean” all of those years, I would have been scared to death I would go on auto pilot for 5 seconds and ruin the whole thing. I remember that day, I remember him singing it live, only now so I appreciate how difficult it must have been.
Was when i first really became a fan of his, i was only 13 but that song just hit me hard especially considering how big the moment was, amazing i still watch it all the time thanks to youtube
Elton John is so professional and well learned. His music is timeless and I never tire of most of his songs & I let my little grandchildren listen and we have a dance party., though Covid has kept them away for over a year, which breaks my heart yet has kept me Covid free. Elton you were amazing at princess Diana’s funeral though I don’t know how you managed to keep it together Thank you for so so many hours of wonderful music!
Such a good guy, hard for anyone to not appreciate him. I like his look here, too. The suit is flattering to his shape, colors etc. too, and his hair looks wonderful.
He is the mozart of our day. He merges blues, classic, jazz and pop, and more, who else has ever done this? he makes very clever music into fun. His humility disguises the fact that he is a genius, .....nothing else to say
Great that he still remembers where he comes from and appreciates his mentors and shows his appreciation. Grateful for his musical background and talent. So glad his mother and grandmother saw his talents and encouraged him. Love that he is helping the youngsters to be creative and learn. Such a wonderful outlet. It is so sad that most schools are removing music from curriculums, especially for the families that cannot afford private lessons. I am sorry for the hard times he went through, but I am glad he is a fighter and learned from his past.It is impressive how he is still carrying on with his wonderful talents and helping others to achieve their talents. Much respect for Sir Elton John and so excited to see if his kiddos have a fraction of his talents.
His speaking voice has a beautiful tone to it. His voice has depth and resonance. I love his vocal singing style. He has it all and he is lovely and humble. I love him for his musical talents but above all, for his honesty. God bless Elton and his family. ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Lots of fruity melodicists, lots of imperialists, lots of rock-n-rollers ripping off black american acts, no great composers, granted--Isaac Newton and that Lennon guy
Dear Elton, I have loved you since the beginning. Finished your book and I love you even more. Your humor is precious!!! I watch "Rocketman" once a week. I had your music on as I was reading. You make this world a better place!!! Not many people qualify for that!!! Love and Peace to you, David and Z and E!!!
People throw the word genius around so much, but I truely believe Elton is. Also being one of, if not, the most famous people in the world, extremely wealthy, undeniably talented and yet coming across so humble. He's given nearly half a billion dollars to fight AIDS, breast cancer, and to others in need. He's just a remarkable human being. ❤
@@emanuel_soundtrack I said "also" so I do not attribute what I said after to be qualities of a genius, just a great man. His musical abilities are widely regarded as genius.
I had the opportunity to play at his 40th birthday party. I was with the Larry Elgart big band. Elton hired us. He had an appreciation for band music. I talked with him on my band break. He was such a gentleman. Blessings to you Elton. Thanks for the memories.
"trained in the rudiments of music at an early age"....right there in my opinion, is the key. You see and hear the whole spectrum of possibilities when composing having put in the hours and hours of practice.
Just to let you know so if you are in the UK and have access to FM radio digital radio Freeview you or Sky or digital ect then the program a life at the piano and elton john special will be broadcast on Saturday 21st December at 21:00-22:00 the synopsis is is tonight in a candid and wide-ranging interview we discover the lesser-known side of Elton John.
Sir Elton you are a Legend and I hope you can get Music back in Schools. Have a great trip to NZ .Will be with you in sprit just wish you would have come to Christchurch NZ .
He's Right ! Music isn't taught much anymore in Schools. Music Class was my favorite out of all School Classes . Such a shame kids are not exposed to that more in school. Such a Positive Influence in life. Music. So Healthy for ones soul. Right on Elton. Thanks for the Give Back. If your not Knighted. You should be!
GREAT interview! Thanks for this! Elton is a treasure trove of knowledge. He reminds of Martin Scorsese in that he is a true student of his craft. I would love for him to discuss classical music in depth on a future podcast or radio program!
When you get chance, go and look at the sheet music for Funeral for A Friend/Love Lies Bleeding. you can see classical music influence through out and under the importance when he said his classical music foundation was vital for his enormous success. You can see Chopin's influence in it.
I've noticed Elton has gotten better at making eye contact during interviews in recent years. If you saw interviews with him in the 70's he barely could make eye contact.
Great interview. I have two name suggestions for Elton’s post farewell tour concerts “Elton John - The Album Cuts” or “Elton John - Not the Hits”. I’d prefer to see that concert over the greatest hits...the gems have been hidden for too long.
Action Media Productions me too. I wish he had included Mona Lisa’s and mad hatters or electricity or can you feel the love or written in the stars or have him create a concert completely based on music that has inspired him through his life, with not one of his own.
A set of deep cuts would sell out ridiculously quick from the obsessive fans! I’d pay an arm and a leg at minimum just to hear up to date versions of things like Country Comfort, Amoreena, Holiday Inn and all the other forgotten album songs with how his voice has changed now!
Action Media Productions that would be a sight to behold! I think the first time I went to see him I recorded DLTSGDOM and Candle at most! With the price his tickets go for I want to spend 2 hours taking it in not making sure my camera focus is right!
A wonderful interview and what an amazing journey he's had. A little sensitive to criticism, especially with his new albums. It's not laziness, I listened as much as I could. The quality isn't there. His last good album was 'The One'. Either age or a lack of cocaine, but the creativity has long gone. He will always be my favorite though.
"Made in England" was his last really superb album in my humble opinion. Not one under par track/fantastic tuneful ballads/ great rockers and marvellous production/arrangements. Nothing to match this consistency more recently sadly.
If I may … check out The Union with Leon Russell … some critics claimed it was one of Elton John’s very best albums and for that reason I got it. I think it came out around 2005 … it is a bit different but I love it … the magic is still there … he performed Hey Ahab from the album in later US concerts … phenomenal
Look at the cover photo of the Truman Capote movie, Infamous, with just Toby Jones' face, (not the one with Sandra Bullock). Then look at EJ's book cover....

Very true he's a legend loved he's music from the 70s
He deserves his latest 'accolade'.
And everyone who's ever been to Nice, has seen his beautiful house.
From a distance atleast!
His desire to give back is beautiful. Can’t wait to see his next chapter.
He's retiring in the next year or two, so his next chapter will definitely be spending more time with his husband and kids :)
