    The landing bay looks awesome. Reminds me exactly of the original shot in the 70's.

    Very nice job. When you first showed the Monogram model I was thinking that was the studio model cause ti didnt look like the Battlestar kit I remembered.

    I still have 2 of these. One I made as the Pegasus. I was pissed when they ran the second molding run as I had them in the boxes sealed along with 2 Clyon Base Stars.
    Now I am 3D modeling TOS Star Trek to 3D print out in 1/200 scale.

      Yeah this kit brings back fond memories. Back in the day I so wished it was more accurate. It was a fun kit to modify for sure. Glad Moebius eventually came out with their kit. Thanks for the comment

    Great work on the Monogram G. Just built the Moebius G. Still have to paint, and do other effects lighting to it, ect. I also have the Monogram G, and yeh, it's a real challenge to flesh out right. Don't have the mod kit for it. Just kit bashed it together, and did lots of major surgery to straighten out the engine, and head drooping thing that went on with that kit so it's starting to look more like the Moebius, and filming G. Ah, the things we G fans do. Eh?

      Yes I agree. Looking forward to the Moebius TOS BSG. I've seen some previews from other builders and it sure looks like they did a good job with the kit. I have yet to receive mine. Thanks for the kind words.

    Thanks TrekWorks. I'm hoping for larger but I have feeling it will be the same size.

    I still have my Monogram BSG from 79/80 (whatever the first release was). I'm not going to upgrade mine though cause I kind of like how it sits beside my Mobeius and I can see how I remember models being made in the old days ;) lol

    Very nice job. I have the kit and I think I am finally going to build it. I want to make it more accurate and your video will be a great reference. Thanks for putting this together. BTW do you have pointer to the original studio model pics you showed.

      Thanks so much. It's been so long I dont have a link but there's plenty of references online if you search Galactica Studio Model. Try this site. they usually have lots of pics modelermagic.com

    What can you use for stripping paint off a model without harming the plastic? I have a kit that someone partially painted, but I'm not crazy about their choice of colors and even if I was, I'd never be able to match them for the rest of the kit.
    I'd really love to be able to safely remove the paint and restore it to its original, unpainted state.

      That's a good question but have no experience with doing it. I would check some of the model pages on Facebook like Starshipmodeler or Culttvman. Someone will undoubtedly know. Thanks

    I am trying to build the original galactica on Minecraft for my channel but building this baby on a game that's block based is not easy. Even tho the seaview from voyage to the bottom of the sea turned out ok.

      @InterstellarModeler  10 лет назад

      Yes I can only imagine that would be quite a task. My son plays minecraft and it is amazing to me what people can build. Good luck. Would love to see the final product.

    How does this kit compare with the Moebius kit?

    • @InterstellarModeler
      @InterstellarModeler  6 лет назад

      The Moebius kit is far better.

    • @AvengerII

      Just pretend the old kit represents another battlestar.
      In real life, no two ships in a class are identical. They always change things between building contracts from what they learn from previous ships. They'll make modifications to make operations run smoother (they changed the arrangement of the flight deck elevators of the Forrestal class carriers to Kitty Hawk carriers drastically) and make ships more efficient internally (why there are 2 nuclear reactors in present-day carriers versus the 8 they used in the Enterprise).
      Neither, kit, IMHO, completely conveys the full grace and majesty of the original Galactica miniature. They STILL seem too small and while the Mobius is better it still misses some details and it just looks a bit dinky BUT there's no other real alternative out there. I would say you'd need a kit AT LEAST one foot longer than either Mobius or Monogram kit. Half-studio scale minimum to really pull it off with the detail and NOT look too small.
      I doubt it will happen because that would add at least $50-$60 to the cost of the model kit in styrene!

    Just saw this bumped into my time line. I like your attention to detail, and applaud your efforts to improve on a poor production model. However, you spend so much time and effort on some details, and left gaping crevices between panel edges, or poor edge quality on the landing bay mural. If that was intended, I don't understand why. But considering the size of the model, you did a pretty good job overall.

    • @InterstellarModeler
      @InterstellarModeler  4 года назад +1

      Appreciate the comments. This model was completed 7 years ago and I've since learned techniques to fill gaps like that. At the time I was just excited that there was these added details were even available. As for the mural, I found it very difficult to cut a piece that would fit the interior contour. The floor of the bay dipped in the center and I remember trying numerous times but settled on what was seen looking straight on into the bay. The Moebius models Galacitca is a far superior kit and even looking back at that build there are quite a few things I would do differently. Thanks for watching.

      Interstellar Modeler I have the same detail kit and have been working on and off this kit for a few years. You are correct about the floor of the bay pods. There is a flaw in the tooling and they dip down in the center. All you can do is file the frame as square as possible.
      I had this kit as a kid when it first came out. Back then these kits were meant to be built up quick and dirty. We couldn’t imagine the level of detail (or the scrutiny) that would eventually enter the future model world. I’ve been in the kit /garage kit scene since the 70s and through to now. There’s a lot of wrestling that goes into garage resin parts that aren’t known or understood. I’ve been recording my build and plan on uploading it here on YT. I appreciate and applaud your efforts, IM!

    • @InterstellarModeler

      I’m afraid buying this kit would be difficult. The model featured in this video is well over 15 yrs old and out of production. Unfortunately so is the newer more accurate version by Moebius. You can try Ebay but I’ve only seen them for around $200 these days. You might want wait for a re-release but I’m really not sure if one is planned at this time.
