Oh man…i miss Kyoto so much…can not wait to see it again in September! The powder that was on the mochi that you had at Nakatanidou in Nara is kinako…its a roasted soybean flour…that mochi is SOOOOO good…its equal to the mochi i had in hakone…warabi mochi in japan is not the same anywhere else in the world…its so much better!

Did either of you try going through Buddha's nostril while at Todaiji Temple? Took me a few tries, but everyone is so awesome and cheers you on while you're doing it! If you're still in Kyoto, you should make a trip to Kurama-dera; on the outskirts of Kyoto; beautiful hikes, awesome small towns.
Japan is definitely a crazy place. Like many Asian countries - Thailand, Vietnam, Singapore, China, Korea etc they put A LOT of time and thought into everything they created. Very ornate and meticulous in everything from food to design.
