Magnesium Explosion

The clip shows the ignition of a mixture of magnesium powder and potassium chlorate using a sparkler.
Owing to its bright light and harmless chemical products it was used as flashlight in early days of photography.
The big surface of the magnesium powder and the large amount of oxygen provided by the thermal decomposition of potassium chlorate are responsible for the super fast reaction.
