This was a staple show in the 70’s when TV was still “real” acting! We looked forward to the Carol Burnett Show! They play different characters and skits throughout the show- With famous skits, well remembered ones like this one- A LOT was improv.. And Tim Conway would constantly crack ‘em up and make them fall outta‘ character- which always made it even funnier! Great cast of folks! Please do more of the Carol Burnett Show- The Elephant Story is from a skit they did here called Mama’s Family. It was so loved that it became its own spin off show cuz people couldn’t get enough of the skits here- 💛🤘🏼✌️

Tim Conway and Harvey Korman were deep, deep buddies personally and it was Tim's sole mission in life to make Harvey break character on the night's of these shows. Carole Burnett has said that Tim would stick to the script during the first dress rehearsal so they had a "good" copy of the scene but then totally riff during the airing of the show. These two were absolute gold.

This was one of the best variety shows in the 60’s and 70’s. You can’t find one today to match it. Tim Conway, Harvey Korman, Carol Burnett and Vickie Lawrence were the best. There are so many other skits they did. The elephant one and Went with the wind are 2 of the best!! Tim Conway as an old man is another one. Mr Tuttle is another character he played on the show. I could go on and on. Carol would even answer audience questions before the show started. Those are funny also. I wish it was on syndication because I could watch them over and over again.

Tim getting the rest of the cast to laugh is the absolute best thing in the entire Carol Burnett show!
It was a personal goal of Tim's, to up his performance or do something completely unexpected to get Carol, Harvey, and the others in hysterics while filming.
Tim getting Harvey to break is always the highlight to me, because it was always so genuine and unexpected.
Tim and Harvey, to me, are one of the greatest comedy duos ever. Their skits are the best in the show.
There are so many times Tim got Harvey and others to bust up on set. A few of my favorites are "The Interrogator," "The oldest man: The Doctor," "The Dresser," and "The oldest man: The Fireman."
You should consider reacting to them in your "try not to laugh" challenges!
I've watched those videos so many times and they never fail to make me laugh.
Thanks for another great reaction video, Billy!

Tim Conway is legendary. I've heard from various interviews that he'd add things they didn't do in rehearsal to surprise his co-stars. As some other people have already suggested on here, the "Elephant Story" is another classic (makes me laugh no matter how many times I've seen it). For that one, Vicki Lawrence tells a story that the director just stopped by her dressing room right before they taped and said: "The elephant story will be different from rehearsal. Good luck". 😆

You just witnessed comedic LEGENDS right there. Tim Conway was always good for cracking up his castmates by improvising things out of the blue and going off script. Harvey Korman was known for breaking up the most, and always with Tim. Both were absolute greats! There were so many skits with them you should see, particularly the one with them as Nazi interrogators, and also the ones with Tim Conway as the old man. Tim as "Mr. Tudball" is pretty good too. Then there is the infamous "Mamma's Family" skit where he had everyone but Vikki Lawrence cracking up, and then when she spoke up, she annihilated them all, even Tim! The Carol Burnett Show was one of those variety shows the 70's that you just had to watch, and my earliest memories are of watching the show. They didn't sink into my memory with specifics until they came out on VHS in the 90's, and then with DVDs and etc now. The best thing about the show is that the comedy is sorta timeless, but you won't see that kind of family friendly comedy much anymore, which is pretty sad. If you want to have a genuine laugh, go with the greats!

Tim Conway was crazy funny, he always purposely tried to make his castmates break character and laugh. And he was one of the most successful to ever do it. There are only a handful of other comics that were able to do the same on a skit show. One of my favorites of those comics was Chris Farley, as he always was able to do that on SNL with his castmates. Although Chris kept the skit progress going and Tim would somehow be able to slow it down just give everyone time to laugh.

The way the Carol Burnett show worked was they did 2 tapings of the entire show in front of the live audience, the first was like a run through and the second was for air. You haven't seen anything until you see Carol's version of Gone with the Wind ( Went with the Wind ) wherein Carol got the longest time ever on a TV laugh ( at least for years ). She wants to impress Rhett that her family still has money, although they're wearing nothing but rags, because she needs Rhett to help her with the taxes to save Tara. Well, the scene is when "Scarlett" sees the velvet drapes on her windows.....Funniest thing I ever saw on television, EVER.
