That means anything that is displeasing to God whether it drinking to get drunk, drugs, fornicating, lying etc. Most of us doesn't realize the more we try to do things outside of what God wants from us the harder life becomes,our transgressions comes from disobeying the word of God.
Repentance is very powerful some use it like it's a magic erase,but when you truly repent you have to fight that sin head on,bind it up in the name of Jesus Christ and fight to never do that sin again.
Remember church is a building that makes you feel good for the time being,but the real true church is where the Holy Spirit dwell and that can only come through God,by true repentance & being baptized in the name of Jesus Christ
