Its crazy to think about all these living creatures that we are watching in there daily routine are now long gone off this earth, animals and people with names and memories and stories all lost and forgotten in time the powerful energy this video givesoff is insane
Too bad there wasn't video or even photos to capture really old places and events, such as ancient Egypt, Rome, Greece, early humans, dinosaurs! Actually, in theory, if you were, at this very instant, on some distant planet, say, 100 million light years from earth AND had a telescope capable of providing clear, close-up images of the earth's surface, you would actually be seeing in real-time events on earth 100 million years ago!, as it would take light from earth that long to reach that remote other world 100 million light years away. Dinosaurs first appeared roughly 235 million years ago and died out 65 million years ago. A "light-year", btw, is the DISTANCE light travels in a year at its constant speed of 186,000 miles per second. It works out to about 5.9 TRILLION miles. So multiply that by 100 million!
This actually looks closer to the Madagascar movie than the modern zoo, Madagascar might be set some decades earlier when it looked more like this. Especially that monkey cage at 2:45 looks almost exactly like in the movie. But to be honest, these are terrible conditions with these tiny enclosures, no wonder they escaped in the movie. Especially for chimpanzees which are close in intelligence to humans. I'm glad they don't keep animals like this anymore.
I get the impression that the earliest zoos, not unlike pre-industrial menageries and animal presentations, were more focused on the exotic nature of the animal being shown rather than its habitat or any history about it. Modern zoos are better not only because they're not cruel, but more positively they provide a more interesting and immersive experience.
This is Prospect Park zoo. Home to many species of wild animals. First out from his doorway steps a RHINO!🦏 His black skin is dark. A HIPPO who lives in Africa sunbathes in the sun🦛 Now an elk noble and beautiful grazes on grass🦌 And then we will now go to The monkey house home to the orangutan🦧 His shaggy fur is orange like the sunset Now from the member of the pig family is the peccary A WILD BOAR lived in Europe its home🐗 There in his lair is a jaguar🐆 His yellow spotted coat blends in the dark A LIONESS who lives in Africa lies down on the sand🦁 The great grizzly as big as a hill lives in America enjoys salmon🐻 The giant panda Who lived in China eats bamboo🐼 The heavyweight elephants who lived in Africa and Asia have long trunks🐘 THE END!
Back then, they didn’t care about what types of animals they had, they only wanted to catch and contain cool and actually catchable animals to entertain people.
Hey nobody is perfect in keeping wild animals in captivity even today in the time of rampant insecurities and conservative paranoia that is the 21st century
What is shown here is not a gloomy time for wild/exotic animals in public zoos (or zoos in general) it’s the way things are even today when we’re thought to be more sensitive and progressive .

How zoos have improved over the years.
Both for the animals and the humans. Realistic habitats are interesting for us to look at, as well as the animal.
an sad time for animals at zoos. but interesting nevertheless
