I must be weird having watched this clip
So many times but yes it’s awesome you came through well and you were well cared for and it was all affordable by normal People
This is what ideal medicine should be
Gazelles haha I can just picture
My mom had brain surgery in Taiwan and she too came through like a champ and barely two days out was discharged
And the bill was a tiny fraction of what it would have cost in the US
Having all those volunteers and having family be care givers keep
    The cost down

Forty years ago, I had surgery in the States' children hospital. At that time, when Taiwan's medical treatment was not yet mature, so we chose to go to the States for help. My father once told me that for the cost of those two surgeries, could buy me several Porsches. I remember when I entered the operation room, I held a Garfield in my arms. When I woke up from the operation, Garfield was still beside me, and he had a band aid on his leg, which was attached to the same place where I was operated on. Before going to the States, I also had several surgeries in Taiwan, but this type of sweet move from medical team would never happened in Taiwan. Now Taiwan's medical care is among the best in the world, medical staff are more caring than they were back then. I would choose to stay in Taiwan for medical help if anything happens again.

Taiwan’s medical insurance is ranked No. 1 in the world and it has 14 hospitals that are ranked among top 200 hospital globally.

oh my goodness Justin - brain surgery! That's full-on. Glad you got the care you needed. Sounds like the medical system in Taiwan is amazing. Those people in the yellow vests sound like absolute angels. Especially the one that sat and waited with Lea during the surgery.
Just goes to show how important a well functioning medical system is. We've heard of people that have left the US because they couldn't afford to get the medical care they needed. I can imagine a lot of people would put off critical care until its too late.

Good to know your surgery and recovery all went well.
7:54 That's because many elder ladies in Taiwan wear jade bangle for years and is not easy to take off, if the medical staffs broke the jade accidentally could cause a lot of problems.
8:12 Names in Taiwan are mostly 3-2 Chinese characters, 1 character for the last name (姓) and 1-2 for the first name (名). I believe that the second Chinese character of the names on the leader board are covered up, such as 王小明→王〇明, due to the privacy law. Last names in Taiwan aren't that many kind, so it's quite easy to have the same name when the second Chinese character is covered up. The showing of gender is to help distinguish different person.

I had a bit of a medical scare while I was in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan. For the first two days, I just ignored an intense but dull pain in my stomach area that was periodic. I hoped it would just go away, byt by day three, I realised it was going to a lot worse before it got any better. I went to a private clinic and saw a doctor there. They kinda freaked out and sent me to the surgeon in the clinic. He sent me to the ER in the local hospital to rule out appendicitis.
At the local hostpial, I had to also basically go around to get all the tests done myself. But the difference was I had just visited the ER in intense pain, but I still had to walk around to get my urine, blood, physical, and ultrasound tests. There were also no elevators, so I had to take the stairs.
Eventually, they couldn't tell me what it was so I was sent to another hospital where I had to wait 20 minutes in line while in pain only to be told that I needed to do a gastrscopy, which could only be done the following day at another hospital.
Long story short, it was a severe case of acute gastritis. They could've just given me some IV drips from the beginning to help with the pain but i had soldier through it for over 24 hours despite presenting to the ER.
Suffice to say, don't get sick in Kyrgyzstan. Only good side was the costs amounteded to under $100 USD.
P.S. Huge thanks to my fiance for taking care of me the entire time. Really makes a huge difference having a family member take care of you all the way in that kind of situation!

Certainly this situation has given me cause to consider where we might relocate to next. Kazakhstan was high on the list because it's such an interesting culture and country, but there's a lot to be desired when it comes to its medical care.

    • @yabbamita
      @yabbamita Год назад +1

@@Justin_Leah Overall, Kyrgyzstan is a great place if you're young and healthy. If not, then maybe think twice. Kazakhstan is more developed, especially Almaty. I think they have a UK-style private hospital there run by British doctors with modern facilities. But the cost might be high. Almaty is a beautiful place and if you do go there, make sure to pop down to Kyrgyzstan too!
