    Awesome! Herb Robert grows in profusion in the Peak District of the white peak where I live...and in my garden too, I love the look of this flower and the plant in general. I have seen the all dark red version of this plant, not the flower though as it's the normal pink colour, but certainly the leaves and stems. It's found growing on limestone cliffs in open sun. I note that the plant itself has a not so nice smell, specially when picking it to clear it in the garden when it becomes overly rampant. It also flowers all the year round and I saw it flowering on New Years day some years ago just before a heavy fall of snow. Cheers.

      I am happy to have that plant also everywhere in my garden in Berlin, Germany. The more exposed they are to the sun, the more they turn their leaves red. It seems to me that they grow best without direct sunlight, like in front of the north-facing side of the house. And yes, they smell when being cut. That's why they have the nickname "Stinkender Storchschnabel" in Germany, which means "stinking stork beak". Stork beak describing the shape of the seed capsule.

    So well described - essential information for us. With the failure of that study of the synthetic variety ,they would do everything they could think of to rubbish the natural plant, but we're not fooled with someone like you around. Thank you.

    Thanks for the video. I love this plant so much! I'm surprised there wasn't a mention of its spice fragrance. Some people find it quite repulsive, I like to pick a small piece off the plant and hold it to my nose as I walk in the woods :)

    I really liked the close ups of the plant and the in-depth explanation of research. However, the music was loud and I kept having to turn the volume up and down as your own speak over parts were much quieter than the music. Very informative podcast, so thank you. 🌻

    I was told by the woman who sold me the seeds here in Australia not to molly coddle these seeds , just throw them in the soil and leave them to it. I am doing that this week.

    I have uprooted a plant but thought to find out if it was useful. I read before this video. Same information... No one can say it's 100% good for health. Well it's medicinal, God grew it so must be good. Thanks for video.

    stelou30 - That sounds fine to me - I imagine a tea-bag contains more tannin than a few brewed Herb Robert leaves. I wonder if the heat diminishes it's properties though?

    iv been making a pint of tea from about 7- 10 of the smaller leaves, chopped and brewed in hot water, to be drunk over 2-3 days leaving the chopped leaves in the liquid, does that seem like too much?

    • @practicepants
      @practicepants  8 лет назад +2

      I reckon that's fine. It's certainly got less tannin than tea in it and plenty of folk drink way more tea than that, with no ill effects! Eating it would probably be a bit different though.

      Than tea *has* in it.

    Thank you! I wonder a couple of things; 1. how much of the fresh herb would you recommend eating ( I use herbs readily and daily, I get that you don't hold all the answers, it's just that you have experience of this herb and as yet I don't) and 2. I like to make and use tinctures, I have found mention online regarding herb Robert tinctures, what are your thoughts on that. great video, thank you!

      bootymissmaximass Thanks for watching :o)
      The general consensus amongst diabetics and cancer sufferers, seems to be one or two fresh leaves a day - I imagine to cause yourself any problems due to tannins, you'd have to eat considerably more than that, but eating more, would most likely be pointless anyway. That's my educated guess though - it's always worth researching for solid info, just to be sure. I eat a leaf whenever I see a plant, so often I eat a leaf daily - I actually quite like the taste now. It's pungent, but there's a lemon-like scentiness in there too.
      I'm not sure on tinctures - I guess it would then be more potent and working out dosage might be more tricky. In short, I don't know, but my feeling is if the fresh herb does the job in small doses, then there's no need to risk making it more potent and potentially problematic.
      Hope that's of some help and thanks again :o)

      @@practicepants Physiologically speaking, a target site only requires pico-grams of a substance. Allopathy gives milligram doses because the body regards the synthetics as foreign (obviously) and disposes of it as quickly as possible -the hope is that at least pico-values of the drug reach said target site.

    In German the plant also means stinking stork's bill. The legend tells that Carl von Linne had an employee who did not want to wash and since he was called Robert, he called the herb Geranium robertianum, or Herb Robert.
