The squadron I was attached to was I think the last squadron of the a6e intruder (va196 Whidbey island). I loved working with both those loud ass dinosaurs. Lol
They are certainly louder than a Goshawk but they won't ultrasonically tenderize your organs like an F18 does. Speaking from experience on the flight deck with these.
Prowler...gone. The last of the "Grummans" goes to the retirement..The Growler is a fairly nice replacement, but the electronic warfere "per se" will be fought in other arenas...not in the air..
There is still the Hawkeye but when the Hawkeye will be gona, by grumman , it's like the navy now hated grumman , only super bugs are left , but don't you worry , grummans turn is coming , it's always grumman than Macdonel douglas , than grumman again, Is the cycle .
Use the best ea 6b airframes and Countersmeaurse systems for usmc, US navy and marines,marines not using Growlers.object retention of ecw officers, stop spending useless dollars commands, marines are not high technology assets, a29 or ov10z,ah1z and more anti tank weapons, let usn worry about cap

VA-75 retired the last A-6E at Oceana in February 1997.
1st was the F14... now the Prowler... :(

The loudest jets I've ever heard. I've been up on the flight deck many times when these were launched.
Louder than the Tomcat or the Hornet? Quite a feat for a plane with no afterburner.

The Intruders were 2 seaters, the prowler however had electronic warfare dudes in the back for the ECM mission the EA6 was assigned to

It has 4 seats, holds up to 4 people.
This is why they were nicknamed the "queer" and the "double-ugly"? :-) One pilot and three ECMOs (electronic counter-measures officer).

Lame. Just drop tanks. HARM no ALQ-99 Jamming pods, just airplanes punching a hole in the sky
The trained eye can see that Q-4 hung a jamming pod, two drops, a HARM and a LITENING pod on their bird.
