Views of Kardzhali lake and Padartsi village

Kardzhali lake is an artificial lake, the first and the uppermost of the three dam lakes on the river Arda in south BULGARIA. It has existed since the early 1960-s, being part of a big project for water power station cascades.
The town is situated between the two upper lakes - "Kardzhali" and "Studen Kladenets", on both sides of the river. Recently, the project has been finalized by building up the river bed and the side walls of a picturesque channel, called "the Water Mirror" which connects the two dam lakes and is about 3 km. long.
Another big project is being carried out in the present, after a national contest for a park along the "Water mirror". It will be called "Arpezos" park, which is the ancient name of the river Arda.
Kardzhali attracts lots of visitors and tourists of various interests, with its beautiful sights, ancient archaeological places, weird nature formations, water basins, rare species of birds and other animals, rocks rich of rare minerals, precious stones and gold.
