One of my favorite restaurants in Whittier! My favorite hard tacos in the whole city. I went to school with their son way back when, the family was always so kind to everyone who ate there. A wonderful place, I wish them the best!
We've loved having Rubi's right down the street from us. And what a great family they are too. Watched the kids work and grow up there, usually studying at the corner "family table". The beef and potato burrito was also our favorite. We'll definitely be in to enjoy a few before the wrecking ball swings. Thank you!
My mom loves that place, we visited in the early fall and Ramon told us that April was probably going to be his last month. I think we'll be visiting at least once a month til it closes.
What a loss. The other factor that folks have to think about is that this is a loss of a dwindling number of Mexican American restaurants. This is a special style of cooking and making Mexican food with an American twist. I hope they can make a cookbook with all their recipes.
I love this place!! I love their fried bean and cheese burrito and the potato tacos are amazing!!! I order them every time I’m in Whittier I’m going to miss them and their food 😢
Bummer...so sad....was it dwindling business? Unfortunately small businesses (especially mom and pop) are very vulnerable in this economy. Prayers to them. Please support local businesses, they have a huge investment in the city economy.
No it was the redevelopment of the Quad and the part they are in is being torn down and replaced by housing. Everyplace they can is Whittier has a condo unit going up all down the Blvd. It is changing the face of Whittier and not for the better.
Their potato tacos are nearly close to how my mom used to make them, and I love them because they're the only ones here in Whittier that come close in texture and taste! So good 👍 ❤
I don't live in California any more but when I was in High School (Pioneer High) back in the early 70's me and my best friend would go to Rubi 's all the time. My question is the Rubi's that was across the street from Chris & Pitts is it still there? Or are they closing that one also? I was just wondering because there was no mention of the other one.
Look at the Grove of Whittier on Whittier blvd and Hadley, they have condos or townhouses. In there. The Americana in Glendale has condos, in Burbank also. 🤷♂️
Im hating what whittier is becoming(downtown l.a part 2). I feel like every open lot they see, they put up condos. I think they said they are making condos at the quad. Doesnt feel like the cozy whittier i grew up in anymore
My first job at Baskin Robbins in the quad in 1978 but we went to Rubi's in Whittier on the corner of Washington Blvd in the 60's for a chocolate chip shake
Sadly this is the first time I have heard about this place, and soon it will close,My family and I will have to visit asap to pay our respects
Such a staple in the Whittier community. They re such nice people. Sad to hear the are leaving us. I hope they enjoy their future retirement 🙏🏼
They are really great. Make sure and stop by before they close. Grab some potato tacos!! Thanks for watching friend.
Thanks for sharing this my dude.
You bet, appreciate you watching!
The shredded beef taco plate always slapped
You still have time to grab it!

Loved their cheeseburgers and chili cheese fries!!
They have great burgers!
We miss Rubi’s since we moved out of state 2 years ago. We can’t find anything like it where we now live. God Bless.

Yes March or April but still unclear. Definitely stop by they would love it.
I support them as much as possible. They will be missed dearly.
@@BryanTarinLozaMusic I wish I had stopped by more often. Great little spot.

Q: Is your pop-up shop still up I needed to pickup a couple of Whittier-caps?
Thank you so much. Yes pop up is still here. Thank you for watching
no one can even see it tucked away in that corner. I always forget about it.
@@MrTraceuser yes. Tough location.
Support them. It’s a hidden gem.
I have had them on speed dial since quite a few phones ago.

@@Yousaf_Yunes no. As I mentioned in the video the area they are in now will be developed at some point. Looks like more housing
@@MyWhittierTV oh bummer ok.

What are they building at the quad??
I’m hearing housing.
Oh great. All of the og spots are slowly disappearing.
Pastrami burrito was great . I need to get back over there . 🤠🖖
Chilli Cheese Fries since 2005 😭🫣💔
I will sure miss this one! Carnitas burrito with red sauce.

Well curious what is going on at the quad - live right near it - no public hearing notices yet.. Will come by to Rubies asap!

The one on Washington Blvd is still in business
I remember I started eating there when I was in middle school in the mid 90's. Good food!

Who wants to live in a shopping center😢🤯
I guess we are about to find out.

what changes are coming 2 the quad
Housing
Housing?
Like we need more
@ looks like it
My favorite is the soft serve vanilla cone.
Whittier is losing it’s flair because of the new community that exists now.

That's the wonderful politicians getting kickbacks
Ruining the city.
Also there are so taco stands on the streets that take away businesses.
I was wondering that too
My favorite? The pastrami quesadilla
I hear ya! That was a good one! But without lettuce
@MyWhittierTV yes...the lettuce got slimy when it was heated...not a good mouth feel...
Did they own the one on Washington blvd. , I lived around the corner from there , my sister worked there in the 70's
@@kathynelson3408 no, Rubis on Washington was the OG but the one at the quad was a 2nd location but it was sold to these folks. No affiliation

What about the spot where Rocky Cola was? What's going on there?
