  • This video is Part 2 of 3 in this "A Florida Keys Bridge Odyssey" series (taking place on May 18 ~ 21, 2021), and this part is focused on a casual drive around the historic district of Key West, plus a walk-through of Fort Zachary Taylor and a visit to the southernmost point on the continental USA. Unfortunately, the rainy weather and a lack of time prevented much more exploration. Still, this video gives the viewer a good overview of what this old part of Key West looks like.
This Bridge Odyssey series took place in between segments of my other video series, "Train Odyssey 6".

Our family is related to Zachary Taylor. My maternal grandfather's side. I didn't know this was here. I guess it's going on the 'to-do' list.

FYI for future travels there is a high speed ferry from Ft Myers or Marco Island to Key West.

Martello towers were a 19th century form of defensive emplacement. Usually round so cannot could be rotated around . I think they were first built in Sicily. But I know of one still standing in Kingston Ontario Canada

Well a rainy day in Key West is still better than a sunny day in most other places. Yea you found the public housing. Probably some of the most valuable real estate in the country.

In case you wonder if anyone notices, that moment at 01:02:11 where you matched the action of the wipers in your transition: yeah, I saw it. Nice touch.

That moment at 30:25. Kind of an uncharacteristic level of enthusiasm. Equaled only by a handful of planes at various air museums (and maybe some flight experiences)! 😀 Are you also an arachnophile?

The chickens…we raised chickens and when we went to Kauai, my kids were chasing and catching and petting the feral chickens 😀

"Southernmost point in continental USA". Big whoop, indeed. It's not even on the continental landmass. :)
Edit: Cuban sandwiches are generally a good choice in Florida. Not that they'll all reach that "best sandwich in my life" category, but the basic recipe guarantees a nice combination.

Southern most point I'm calling BS! Look at any map there is land further south inside the restricted access area. I should be called "the southern most point allowed to be accessed by the general public".
