Will Intamin Make Another Woodie?

- Before the crazy modern-day woodies, Intamin took a shot at creating their wood coasters, known as the Prefab. The word Prefab is short for prefabricated because all the track that makes up these coasters were produced in a factory using the most accurate technology to make sure the final product would be as smooth as can be. And man was this achieved, Intamin woodies have to be some of the smoothest woodies out there, I would go as far as saying they compete with some steel coasters. The laser precision would make for a much smoother ride, but it would cost a lot more than woodies from competitors. Because of the high price tag, only four of them were built worldwide, but if you've been around in the community for a while, there's a good chance you have heard of at least one, if not, maybe all of them. In order of construction, there is Colossus at Heide Park, Balder at Liseberg, El Toro at Great Adventure, and T-Express at Everland. With it being over ten years since the last Prefab was built, should we lose hope or should we prepare for Intamin to come back stronger than before? So why haven’t we seen another Prefab since 2008? There are a couple of reasons that might make parks shy away from this model. First is the high price tag, as I said before all the track is made in a factory, which boosts the cost and would cost more for shipping. Second is the maintenance. It's to my understanding that Prefabs are reliable, but the high stress on the track would cause a little more work than alternatives. There is also the chance, the park might think it's too intense for their target audience, or they might want a different experience, that would be a better fit for their park, because keep in mind, Prefabs are some of the biggest woodies out there. With that said, what are the pros of having this model? For starters, this is just a quality model. Intamin is always making high-quality coasters, and Prefabs are no exception. Even to this day, some of the older coasters remain smooth. And second, if parks want a more intense ride, this would be the right coaster for them. We're talking about intamin, they have made some crazy launch coasters, and if someone is going to master the launched woodie… chances are it going to be Intamin. I look at it like this, the Prefabs are not selling, so why not mix it up and give the parks something else with the Prefab track. There's no proof they can do this but launches and inversions. I assume the track wasn't designed to go upside down, so if you chose inversions, they might need to make some revisions to the track and/or trains. Yes, I know the drop is one of the best parts of these coasters, but who doesn't want a 60mph launch over an airtime hill. Another alternative is to retrofit, something like what GCI did with Ghostrider. Granted, there are not many old woodies left in the world, but I would see Intamin doing it if a park is interested.

3:46 ElToroRyan said that Six Flags has a team that makes some of El Toro’s track in house in his prefab video, 6 flags isn’t buying track from Intamin anymore but they aren’t letting it completely deteriorate like Colossos originally did either
I was going to mention that :) I'm glad Six Flags Great Adventure takes the time to retrack El Toro when it needs it the most. Of course, probably not often like every offseason, but often so it doesn't deteriorate. I was shocked to see that the team at Great Adventure is able to get the same materials and fabricate the track the same way as the sub-contractor for Intamin's prefabricated wood track, Cordes-Holzbau can.
Tony Kim and the fact that the coaster is still smooth as butter with that non Intamin track shows how good the people who do El Toro’s track really are
Who needs one- Energylandia by far
And we know theyre willing to spend tge big buck too, with giant hybrids and crazy launched vekomas, and insane looking intamin hypers, if anyone will buy one. It will be energalandia
I hope they start getting some Bimmers too. They already have an SLC so they could do with a wing, dive or flyer
I don't think this is gonna happen, looking realisticly chances for a prefab are very slim, the park has stopped working with intamin (prototype trains on hyperion couse a bit of rattle, nothing specially bad, but intamin refuses to eliminate it, which broke them and park apart), and also they probably doesnt want to install coaster that costs much to maintain, and to avoid wooden or topper track they went with ibox for zadra (first ever ground up ibox).
Bartek Kep bear in mind tho that zadra is highly likely to be the original or similar to the iron gwazis layout, but buch gardens did not have the funding to follow through with it and energylandia had the money and wanted one ASAP. It’s energylandias fault for not using the rmc trains and going with a less ‘prototype esc’ for trains. They would be ready to take the maintenance costs as they have brought prototype coasters before such as formula, new gen Vercoma launch coaster
Felice Graziano flying their probably gonna go with Vercoma, depending on how well F.L.Y does
I just think GG and GCI offer enough thrills for half the price so that these parks dont see the value in a prefab anymore. Sad but the fact that its been 12 years tells the story
2:14 "Intamin is always making high quality coasters"
Me: uhhhh Green Lantern: First Flight exists...
It got removed. (Thank God)
Canada can deal with it now at La Ronde
Cra-z Gaming doesn’t mean that it’s gonna be better
Its not accualy intamins fault that that coaster sucked, it was the californai laws that made sfmm have to jack up the ride to the point where it sucked, I honestly think it would be good at la ronde
vic jaxon I know about the laws. I still think the zacspin was one of the worst models produced by Intamin
@@stanton1270 Flashback was even worse.
YAY!!!! NEW VIDEO WE LOVE!!!
I’ve got a few things to say. 1)zach lockdown is clearly getting to you and you have gone insane. Towers aren’t gonna get a prefab. 2)CP would honestly be the most likely candidate for an inntamin prefab since they are the only park that would really want to spend that much money. They would be able to maintain they don’t have a large woody in their line up and they could gather up a good amount of records such as tallest fastest and steepest wooden coaster in the world and they could probably exceed 200ft if it main used a steel structure for the lift like that gci concept or what RMC use
if cedar point got a prefab it would make cp the best amusement park in the world by FAR
Dude, you just described steel vengeance if it was a wooden coaster, a intamin prefab would be a terrible fit their, but you are right, they do need a wooden coaster their, I feel they would get a gci twister like gold striker to replace Gemini and then down the line they NEED to add something similar to eejanaika
Maybe thorpe park could get one.
@@louiswright8282 not likely giving that they will get one. If they were gonna get a woody then they’d turn to gci because they’re cheaper and they’ve worked with them before. And merlin don’t have good experiences with prefabs since colossos at Heide park. Thorpe are getting an RMC in 2022/2023 anyway
@@ewant7954 oh yeah. Forgot about that. Maybe drayton manor.
I love El Toro so I hope so
I watch quite a few you tubers but you are one of the only that I try to immediately watch the video when it comes out.
If this model could launch, San Diego might have a chance, because remember, SeaWorld has been landlocked for the past bit, and they still got/are getting 4 new coasters (including Tidal Twister + Wild Artic coaster thats supposedly coming). They'll probably do some crazy s*** in the back of the park, and make room for something.
In a couple Years, I open a Rollercoaster-theme park and the first Coaster I put in my park is a even better El Toro. So the prefab never dies out! I LOVE Intamin
U deserve more subs. ur podcast is awesome and these video essays are so well done. props to you man
i LOVE EL TORO SO MUCH. They Should!
Wow I completely agree. Nice job
I love your videos! I have been watching for a couple months now and I love watching your theories!
Hi, I’m the UK guy as mentioned in other videos, I think you missed Thorpe, it would for their line up so well!
Because Thorpe park get so much money invested in them
Coaster Countdowns I never said it was realistic, all I said is that it would suit there line up so well
they should build a launched intamin prefab!
your like the only person ive ever seen who actually reads all the comments
Great quality video again Zach!
Awesome video! A launched prefab would be absolutely nuts! Especially if they put a launched lift hill on it and have it go into the drop with a ton of speed.
I'd say somewhere in China is by far the most likely to get a prefab. They've been getting the most of Intamin's business for a while now and new coasters from them are being built all the time. So it wouldn't surprise me at all for one of them be interested in a
El toro is high on my bucket list, so I hope intamin keep building these coasters. I’m addicted to your content and theories so, keep doing this aweome content!
I bet more will be built, sea world is definitely gaining a lot of influence (and money) and they’re trying to get some of their parks into the thrill market. So I think a sea world park will get one
This is probably the highest quality content in the entire coaster community and there are videos it feels like every day keep up the good work and can’t wait for more 👍
Love the videos you put out!! So interesting and always makes sense!! Thanks for your content!
Someone else pointed this out but it's important to know that Six Flags Great Adventure actually builds their own pre-fab track to redo portions of El Toro regularly. Definitely go check out Eltororyan's video on El Toro he released a couple weeks ago. It is one of the best videos on rollercoasters out there. No joke, don't skip out on it!!! So much valuable info. Anyway, he knows the park and ride very well and he discussed how the maintenance team puts a lot of work into fabricating the proper track to maintain the ride.
These speculations are awesome, plus your channel is just very good I don’t know why we don’t hear of you more, good content 👍
I’ve contacted intamin and they said they could use LSM’s for the pre fabs, they also said inversions are now possible, so there new pre fabs would be very different to the current ones
Your awesome. Keep doing what you do.
Intamin did say they can do a launch prefab! They said that in an interview last fall, its on RUclips
I love these videos. You think about things I'd never think of. Great job.
Great video! Your channel is amazing
love your videos, hope the growth grows more
This channel is such a hidden gem. Can't stop watching
If they make more prefabs, it would be cool to see a launched or inverting prefab. I also thing bush gardens Tampa could use a prefab so maybe intamin could make one with a steel support scrture.
If six flags started working with intamin again, six flags fiesta Texas needs a wooden coaster.
I’m honestly surprised 6 flags doesn’t work with GCI or gravity group, those aren’t that much more expensive than RMCs
Love the video!!
Now this is some of the best coaster content out there.
This is amazing content. You always make me question myself about what I know about roller coasters
Keep it up:)
Awsome video!
Just found your content. Love it!
Theme Park Media is what the coaster community was missing. I love the coaster theories!
5:51 man u talkin trimless
Thanks for making my quarantine entertaining
If parks want a kick ass pre fab, they’d just do an RMC topper without inversions. The prefab is dead. Also, lost island is getting kanonen relocated, so it’s not like intamin is building a new coaster for them.
I would love the next a prefab at my home park Kings Island but we just got Mystic timbers so probably not
Great professionalism
Keep it up
El Toro’s drop is breathtaking!
I love our video's, and am always looking forward for the next, thanks you.
Love the vid dude
Man , awesome video! keepem coming!!! If cedar point would get one it would challenge El Toro!!!
I would be astonished if we see another pre-fab, go watch El Toro Ryan's video if you haven't already he pretty comprehensively goes over why not. Basically there's nothing they do that RMC can't for like a third of the price
Please god, give us more intamin prefab
Intamin prefabs are one of my favourite coaster types
There just insane and I’m sure you can agree
I think Intamin prefab + steel track = a hybrid coaster that could rival RMC. Especially if they just go full send and make it launched.
Great Video I would love to see a Prefab Wooden Coaster to come to Carowinds
YESSSS NEW VIDEO!!!
Have only ever been to my home park Oakwood so I have never done an Intamin pre-fab. I've got a high tier CCI on my doorstep so I'm not complaining
Wish Thorpe park would either get an rmc or prefab behind swarm island
I'd honestly think Canada's Wonderland would be a candidate. From what I hear, Canadian labor laws won't allow non-Canadian workers to build the coasters at the park, so either RMC would have to relent on doing everything in-house, or they won't work in Canada. And since CF is positioning Wonderland as a destination park, one of these prefabs could be a big hit since the park currently lacks quality wood coasters.
I'm really happy to have the prefab Colossos in my homepark 😁
Great Adventure actually fabricates in house all replacement parts for El Toro.
THEY SHOULD PUT PREFAB TRACK ON AMERICAN EAGLE WHICH WOULD MAKE IT INSANE!!!
imagine eltoro with tiny bunny hills after the first drop! ;)
the airtime would be insane
The airtime is already insane. It doesn't need tiny bunny hills. The large hills provide longer airtime than smaller ones would.
Im now waiting patiently for the air grover prefab thanks to you
This video is interesting I hope they make more
I've done both El Toro and Balder. El Toro feels much more out of control. Balder feels like a modern take on a traditional woodie. I'd be excited to see another layout, as Colossos is like a tamer El Toro and the second half of T Express is like Balder.
Phantasialand might want to invest in a prefab. If they ever want a wooden coaster in such a tight park, they'd need the laser cutting technology of intamin.
Your videos are the best. Also when is the next talking trimless coming out?
If we could have more coasters like El Toro, that would be awesome!! With Seaworld’s new business model, I could see one going to BGW which would be the best! Great vid btw! I subbed
For the UK I could see Thorpe Park getting one. Merlin own it the same as Heide Park, they have no Woodie (towers has wickerman) and they are long due an investment.. last was the swarm in 2012
Where the podcast at? I thought there was a new episode every Saturday.
I love the prefabricated wooden coaster and I want it a bigger scale
These look insane but I feel like I would prefer a proper wooden coaster that throws you around and is... well. Rough. A wooden roller coasters should always be roug
I could see cedar point possibly going for one. We never saw seaworld operate with intamin until recently so maybe cedar fair closely watches pantheon and other newer intamin roller coasters and considers going back? This new turn of intamin I think deserves a second chance from the one 10-15 years ago.
Long shot but an intamin prefab would be a great Wildcat replacement at Hersheypark... I think consumers want more than “another RMC retrack* that’s becoming more common of a coaster offering and intamin’s prefab can be posed as a “new/innovative” attraction
Live the vids and channel
Pre fab...ulous
Sorry if that was corny.
Fantastic topic!!! 👍👏
I don't think parks are going to get one because they don't go for the best coaster, but what brings in the most crowds. A prefab is around the same price tag as a B&M dive coaster but a dive coaster brings in more crowds and is less maintenance. If parks want a kick-butt woodie, they would choose RMC.
Yo we'll take a prefab at san diego
"Intamins woodies come close to steel coaster smoothness"
Intamin non prefab woodies: *allow me to introduce myself*
Wait... I know cedar fair usually doesn’t work with intamin anymore but cedar point said their going to one up steel vengeance. And what American wooden coaster is debatedly better than steel vengeance? EL TORO.
El Toro is absolutely amazing and the other prefabs are awesome coasters but not necessarily mind blowing experiences. It would be great if they made some new ones in the same direction and expression as El Toro because El Toro is my favorite roller coaster on earth and it deserves the title accordingly.
Is it possible that a prefab would be the next coaster at cedar point?
I actually think there's a non-zero chance that the expensive, new coaster going into Fuji-Q Highland is a pre-fab. They don't have a wood coaster, and it's exactly the kind of situation that buying one would make sense. Fuji-Q would absolutely want a massive wood coaster, and they're not short on cash.
I keep saying that it would be genius if American Eagle at Six Flags Great America, which is an Intamin woodie, was converted to a prefab. Would be quite the upgrade to a ride that’s days are numbered. Plus they already have an RMC.
Why is the second half of T-Express literally Balder?
If intamin were to start making prefabs again, i think the first one will be at an amusement park in china (either at one of the happy valley or fantawild parks).
If I'm being honest, I can see SDC getting one... They have the capital and land, plus as we've seen frim past years, they're trying to be the best park in the country, if not the world. That would be interesting tbh seeing an INTAMIN Prefab and RMC ground up woodie in the same park.
For the international parks its most likely for Alton Towers and Engerylandia because Port avantura has already 3 wooden coasters and is not in the best financial condition right now and some park in Germany is still too close because it's max a 2.5 hour drive and Alton and Heide park are both from merlin and EnergyLandia is EnergyLandia
Srry for the long comment.
I wish el toro was a hyper it would be cool to have a wooden hyper coaster still operating
Who think we should see sea world get a prefabricated wooden coaster
This gives me nostalgia of el toro
Tbh I think the park to most likely get a prefab could be Energylandia. They add a lot of coasters every year, we know they work with Intamin because of Hyperion, and they are missing that original woody in there lineup. Yes they have Zadra, but getting a prefab with no inversions seems like a pretty good fit. And yes it is a high price tag but like cmon it’s Energylandia.
Another question, do you think intamin will every make another non prefabricated wooden coaster alike to American Eagle, I think.
Maybe Walibi holland can get one, they are the Dutch thrillseekers park and converted their woodie into a rmc, also they have worked with intamin for Goliath and that coaster was their best one till Untamed came!
Cedar point 2021 Intamin prefab
If there is a anyone buying a prefab it's probably Energylandia... they got the land and they got to the money. Just what I'm thinking tho. Kepp up he good work and really good content
Sesame Place needs a prefab called Bert’s vengeance.
I think RMC, being able to build ground up projects, are gonna take any more potential prefabs from opening. However, China loves intamin, so I'd look to them to add the next prefab if it were to happen
I feel like Energylandia could be a candidate too as they seem to have nearly unlimited money based on how fast they're building new rides every year. I realize they have Zadra already, but I feel like an old school, or launched prefab would both be much different than what RMC offers.
I like your Channel!!!!!!👍👍👍👍👌
