I think nobody, I mean nobody, has never ever driven so fast with historic-spec Escort mk2 on gravel. Partly because of the tires but mostly because of Jari-Matti. 💪💪💪
This shows the true brilliance of one of the fastest WRC-pilots ever. In a WRC-car its difficult to see who really can drive, but in a RWD like this, you show the true mastery. One thing is the incredible speed over crests, into turns etc, but the most impressive (except for the "happening" around 3.30 WTF!) is how the exit speed and acceleration is kept by keeping the car pointed strait at the exits. Incredible! WRC should be made RWD, with unlimited engines and aerodynamics!

I find it very interesting that he seems to be using the clutch in a normal fashion, without heel and toe downshifting. In fact, I think I only saw him blip the gas once while down shifting, and I think he was left foot braking at the time. Towards the end of the video the transmission pops out of second gear and then shortly there after, he seems to be having trouble holding low gears. I wonder if there was a gearbox problem that wouldn't allow heel and toe?
my first race car was an escort i was judging the gears whilst he was driving i even recognized when he lost that gear. i still have a crush on these cars and will build another someday.
Yes you can, but dogbox or if we call them straight cut gears are for faster shifting without the need for using the clutch. Plus I don't hear the whining noise it makes.
There actually was a 3rd gear issue at the end of the stage, he had to also do the next stage without 3rd gear but as far as I know, he is still ahead by a comfortable margin
I don't think he started in second gear. Older sportscars and racecare, used to have 5-speed box with a slightly different H pattern than modern car. The reverse was where usually the first gear now stands, the fist gear was where the second gear now stands, and so on. I hope you can see that pattern I don't know if youtube site will allow that. You've got to have total confidence in your co drive to take brows flat as Jari does. Like the large hay bales to bounce off on the inside of bends about mid-stage ..............

The driving with a H pattern box is so much more impressive. The footwork required is incredible.
Dogbox gearbox so no clutch needed really, especially when shifting down...

It's a zf 5 speed, straight cut dog box. The car is built by historic rallye sport. Also, I love watching Scandinavians drive :)
