Fascinating how this concerto brings the Vienna of Mahler’s time into a particular musical perspective, as if Korngold’s crossing the Atlantic put Vienna itself into a very personal time-capsule. Heifetz knew that magical place firsthand-and what he brought to this music is as authentic as it is inimitable.
incandescent, a marvel.......you can play differently but not better.......even Hilary Hahn, the greatest violinist active in 2020, cannot play this work with this magical abandon, command of idiom.....

There's Heifetz, and then there's everyone else.
Greatest in 2020? Please. She's an excellent player, but there are plenty of others.
It seems Heifetz felt especially free, abandoned and let's say creative while playing works of his contemporaries, which he also often premiered.
This is true Heifetz territory, as much as I admire Hilary...
