Do you have any issue regarding heat dissipation mounting a 2280 SSD ? The initial one in only 2232 long.
Thanks for the sharing.
Tks you, I replace my small 128 for 500gb samsung evo 970 plus. Work perfectly without any problem. The speed average 2500MB/s (higher than orginal ssd a little bit) and get over 3500MB/s on bootcamp windows. For anyone worry about heat problem. Answer that not notice at all, samsung ssd 970 temperature rarely peak over 60 celcius degree. Remember disconnect battery first which this video forgot.
Saved my life bruh 🙏🏻❤️
You haven't disconnected the battery man...
The one you unplug is the trackpad connector...
hahah just noticed that. horrifically misinformative
@@NicVandEmZ Nah. That ribbon is for trackpad only.
I have never seen a product that combines battery connector with anything. It's supposed to be separated.
See here for the proper teardown... ruclips.net/video/Bcdg5NrQRPc/видео.html
@@NicVandEmZ it literally does not, they are two separate assemblies. Please just edit the description to highlight the mistake so others don't damage their system. Thanks
That’s right! And i damaged my macbook because of him!!
@@obidaalterkawy1359 That’s too bad. so sorry to hear that.
This is what happens when unprofessionals claim to know the right way to do it. This videos should be deleted ASAP.
This is the best tutorial video to prepare and how to format for MacBook 💻 Thanks..
Next time I suggest you to disconnect the battery not a trackpad. Also order a small ssd.
thanks so much, excellent tutorial..
Thank you!
Do you recommend I replace my SSD as I have a blinking question mark folder on my macbook pro same model as yours? Would you know why I do not have an OS anymore? All I did was erase my macbook pro from icloud remotely on find my device.
Thanks a alot. Saved my macbook pro.
Unless you guys like heating up both your cpu and SSD more than it needs to, get one that fits better. Suggest a 2242 size like the sabrent Rocket, so it doesn't go right over the cpu heatsink. Good video btw, thnx for showing how to install the adapter
I think the person did this because of the cost effectiveness, those rockets are smaller and have less room for performance controllers, but also cost more per GB than a full memory stick.
Sabrent Rocker is slower
Interesting. I'd be concerned with the long term affects (connector & SSD) of tape vs. a hold-down screw. Similarly the tape adhesive will surely ooze over time, did you look for a specific type that wouldn't remain stable?
I made this change 1.5 years ago and my Mac still works fine. I have also set up a dual boot with Ubuntu as second system. However I did not open my Mac again so I can"t say if the tape is still fine. Also I don't have any proof that my Mac is warming up more in average or similar issues. But I am using it on a daily basis and I had not noticable issues.
Does this SSD upgrade work with Mac OS Big Sur 11.2.2? Any issues at all?
I have one last question .. sorry I'm borrowing and maybe annoying with it
I've got it now, thank you!
However, I deleted the new SSD directly in the hard disk utility on the left and then partitioned it without first "showing all devices" and then deleting and partitioning the Sabrent SSD, I hope you know what I mean. Only then did I see that the Sabrent was displayed to me and then I did the same again for the now correct SSD, everything went well, but I'm afraid that I might have "broken" something by deleting 2 media directly and reformatted ..
would that be bad? I hope I could explain the problem
Thank you Apu
Hi, you can cold start your MacBook with the charger plugged in? if I do that my ssd don't get recognized and I have to turn off again, unplug power cable and after pc boots I can plug charger again... can you help me?
Hey guys, I am thinking about this. In the end, the last block of the ssd is on the black heat pipe. Will the ssd get burned in the end if we play the pc too hard?
Can you please make a video for changing thermo paste of this mac?
How is the battery life and hibernation mode?
Have you upgraded to Mac OS Big Sur with the sabrent drive in the adapter? If yes any particular issues? Want to upgrade but want to make sure it works well with Mac OS 11.01 Big Sur. Thanks for letting me know
No issues at all working great
I have that Sabrent 1tb ssd, noticing battery drain when on standby, as well as slow write speed (400mbp/s or so...). Any fix for this issue?

does it work with a 2to ssd?
If you need better compatibility, find ssd with SM or Phison Controller. Samsung tend to have issue with compatibility across firmware
will it be overheat? because the size of the ssd is not the correct size for the adapters
doesnt fit well in mine a1708, I was installing a 2242 nvme buy had 2280 ona hand and checked if it fits. My macbook was wobbling xd, it had a “dent” in center. I would be worried about that nvme flexing and chips popping of its board.
would it runn even faster with the 980 pro?

The Samsung evo 970 2280 sits on the fan cooling tube. Any overheating issues? I hear the Samsung 970 usually run hot. How much are you getting in benchmarks read/write speeds?
Any heating issue?
Mr. this Nvme 2280 heats? I have heard that just 2230/2242 were considered. What´s the difference? Those two are lighter or heatless?
2230 and 2242 read-write speeds are crap if I myself could find one with good speeds I would do this upgrade otherwise it's not really worth it since you placing 2280 over a heat sink which gets hot on top of an SSD that gets hot.
Is it still working fine?? Ideally this should be done with a 2230 or 2242 but the speeds get lower. No problems with overheating or the computer waking up? Thanks for the feedback.
That is my big concern as I have a 250GB Samsung 960 Evo sitting around and I want to do this but placing the ssd over top of the heatsink just screams destruction.
Okay looking into further not sure it's worth it as the Samsung SSD's create shit tons of heat which is probably why I have issues with my 960 Evo in the computer it's in. Now you can get some heat sinks but they add a lot of bulk another thing you can do is add thermal padding to help with heat dissipation but not sure if it's not just worth getting something for 300 bucks that are ripped out of a similar mac with more storage.
to get you answer I found a 2242 with good read write speeds it's about 180 CAD for 1TB 2500 read 2050 write speeds
Sabrent 1TB Rocket NVMe PCIe M.2 2242 DRAM-less Low Power Internal High Performance SSD (SB-1342-1TB)

Did you disconnect the Battery ?
did anyone else have problems at the Terminal part? I followed every step with my USB, but when I paste the command for Big Sur in Terminal (my mac is running Big Sur and they have the command for Big Sur now on that website) it says "command not found". Anyone have any tips to get around this? I tried pasting the command for Catalina in too just to make sure it wasn't just the Big Sur command that had issues and it still didn't work. Thanks!
Thanks, very instructive.
Thanks., 🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳

is this aplicable for macos catalina 10.15.7?
half of the smartasses are concerned about battery being connected. I have reopened and switched my SSDs like 5 times and did not had any issue so far.
Quick tips: Rocket NVME 2242 is crap for macOS- boot just takes too long to finish. I tried running windows and realized that it is running blazing fast therefore my conclusion is macOS BigSur/Monterey has a problem with non-apple SSDs.
my original apple 512 gb ssd gets 2k write and 2.4k read idk how you were getting such low numbers maybe its because you have 126gb... The speeds also seem bottlenecked by the adaption process I think getting a 1gb original form factor off ebay will result in the same speeds at a cheaper price without having to worry about a long nvme 2.0, but i can only speculate based on my write speeds
Congratulations, good video. Do windows recognize it? Can I install it on win 10? Does sleep, wake up work?
Sándor Barna
No issue at all
But I don’t know about windows
Every tech knows to disconnect the battery first that's 1. 2 you put the nvme on top of the logic board with the battery connected your lucky y didn't short both logic board nore nvme drive 🤦🏽♂️🤦🏽♂️🤦🏽♂️😳. 3 the board don't have the standoff for that drive you had to put electrical tape in the back of the nvme so it would not make any contact with the logicboard 😳😳🤦🏽♂️🤦🏽♂️🤦🏽♂️. 4 samgsung nvme drives run super hot so you needed to use a thermal pad to keep the drive cool. Smh but after all that good effort.😂😂😂
night made soo funny
interested about what you said about Samsung drives. does this drive run too hot for the MacBook Pro A1708? would you recommend a different drive with the same amount of speed/power?
Thanks for any help.
Chris Jepson all nvme drive run super hot depending on the stress you put on the drive this is an excellent drive for any Mac what I would recommend is to purchase a thermal pad on amazon when you install the drive place the pad on the drive and you should be good just stay away from Intel 660 665p they are cheap but slower I use inland premium 2tb tlc good low heat consumption and cheap and fast hope it helps
Wait what do you need the ISB for if you just gon erase it
what are the read/write max of the adapter? i cant seem to find anything on ebay about it...
It is a passive Adapter, it only reroute the Connection Pins. The only Speed Limit is the Stock Connection on the MacBook
Hi... What adapter you used? Sintech or other sintech?
I did succefully. I try used adapter sintech and no brand. All work find.
how about macbook pro 2018? is this compatible?
will the 2tb version work?
Yes up to 8tb
Thanks for the video. I did all you make, everything is perfect with my macbbok pro A1502. Just I have an issue. I replaced my original 128gb ssd with the WD Black NVME M2 with adapter. Speed is ok, macos bigsur is super but I have an battery issue. While I manually sleep or close the screen, I think the system sleeps but the ssd is not. Because bttery drains 100% to %30 in 8 hours while sleeping. I couldnt solve this situtation.

You should use NVME SSD.
I installed here too using an ADATA XPG SX8100 PCIe Gen3x4 M.2 2280 On My MacBook Pro A1708 13" 2017 Intel I5 8 GB Ram.
Important to know:
1. The Bottom cover got bulging, the Mac gets unstable on the table. Using a plastic external case totally solved this issue!)
2. After The Ssd Installation Pressing CMD+R didn't recognized the new ssd. Reboot and use CMD+OPTION+R instead > recognized my ssd like a charm ;)
3. I made a fresh install of the Mac OS Big Sur.
4. If you notice battery drainage (also during sleep) and overheating it's normal in the first days due to new ssd Indexing information > I recommend to Reset SMC (google it). Mine is getting more stable after 4 days.
CONCLUSION:
My Mac is amazingly 3x faster, 20% warmer and 10% less battery efficient.
I'm still monitoring heating, but after 4 days it's getting a maximum of 98 degrees Celsius. and 70 degrees in average. (I'm guessing it's normal, due to the 3x faster performance. What do you guys think about this temperature?
Thanks for sharing!
Is it working good? Have any heating issue?
Yes, please share you long term review.
way too much tape i think that could compromise heating i like the idea of having the nvme but hmmm this is risky

I see from tomshardware website samsung 970 evo it’s very hot. You have issue from this?
charisma say
No issues working fine
There will be heating issues with this. For starters, je's used insulating electrical tape, that will trap the heat under the m.2 ssd. Secondly, the m.2 NEEDS thermal pads on them because they get hotter than any other expansion drives. This is why you'll see most motherboards have thermal pads in their m.2 slots. DO NOT DO IT THIS WAY.
Just buy an OWC Upgrade card up to 2 TB for the same price how it is done in this video but no electrical tape.
i don't know if this method is secure for the pc
An 2242 SSD would fit right in that space

Having a hard time erasing and using it as a bootable hard drive.
This video is kinda horrible in term of showing people what to be done. 1st, the battery is the one screwed to the board on top of the trackpad in center position, not those trackpad connector. 2nd, you wont want to put a tape on top or on that heatsink. 3rd, you should cover the exposed part around the overlapping ssd using non conductive material like kepton tape or any other static shield, one that can resist heat is better. You dont want any part of your ssd pcb board accidentally short anything on that board.
can i put a 0.5mm thick Thermal Pad on the exposed ssd pcb board? I'm planning to do the same upgrade using a 1TB AData XPG SX8200 Pro m.2 NVMe 2280. thanks in advance.

...you can cut also the end with grinding machine
Good video but... next time disconnect the battery, not the trackpad.
this is extremely risky and you are very close to damaging your laptop and ssd, just buy a 2242 ssd that will fit perfectly with the adapter.
so you're telling me, you used tape to hold the SSD in place....
Antistactic Tape, yes, why not? Its use all the time in electronics
@@arturo5050 Yes, to hold down wires not a fragile ssd. Just another reason why macbook fucking sucks along with the whole greedy ass company. Slow down phones to get you to upgrade to a new one, go out of their goddamn way to make it harder to repair their products, and as we see here they tried to make it where only a unique ssd can be inserted. An adapter should not have to be made. And to top the fucking cherry on the whip cream they solder the ssd onto the 15 inch versions. GREEDY ASS GARBAGE COMPANY!

So... I did the same change as per the video here (Samsung 970 EVO 1TB), but properly disconnecting the battery :). Works almost fine.

1. MACBOOK gets a bit more bulky on the bottom and is not perfectly flat anymore
2. A touch of overheating is noticeable compared to before

1. No issues with sleep mode
2. Better speeds read/write as shown in the video
