    Tks you, I replace my small 128 for 500gb samsung evo 970 plus. Work perfectly without any problem. The speed average 2500MB/s (higher than orginal ssd a little bit) and get over 3500MB/s on bootcamp windows. For anyone worry about heat problem. Answer that not notice at all, samsung ssd 970 temperature rarely peak over 60 celcius degree. Remember disconnect battery first which this video forgot.

    Unless you guys like heating up both your cpu and SSD more than it needs to, get one that fits better. Suggest a 2242 size like the sabrent Rocket, so it doesn't go right over the cpu heatsink. Good video btw, thnx for showing how to install the adapter

    • @atruceforbruce5388
      @atruceforbruce5388 2 года назад +2

      I think the person did this because of the cost effectiveness, those rockets are smaller and have less room for performance controllers, but also cost more per GB than a full memory stick.

    Interesting. I'd be concerned with the long term affects (connector & SSD) of tape vs. a hold-down screw. Similarly the tape adhesive will surely ooze over time, did you look for a specific type that wouldn't remain stable?

      I made this change 1.5 years ago and my Mac still works fine. I have also set up a dual boot with Ubuntu as second system. However I did not open my Mac again so I can"t say if the tape is still fine. Also I don't have any proof that my Mac is warming up more in average or similar issues. But I am using it on a daily basis and I had not noticable issues.

    I have one last question .. sorry I'm borrowing and maybe annoying with it
    I've got it now, thank you!
    However, I deleted the new SSD directly in the hard disk utility on the left and then partitioned it without first "showing all devices" and then deleting and partitioning the Sabrent SSD, I hope you know what I mean. Only then did I see that the Sabrent was displayed to me and then I did the same again for the now correct SSD, everything went well, but I'm afraid that I might have "broken" something by deleting 2 media directly and reformatted ..
    would that be bad? I hope I could explain the problem

    • @dakunclear
      @dakunclear 3 года назад

      2230 and 2242 read-write speeds are crap if I myself could find one with good speeds I would do this upgrade otherwise it's not really worth it since you placing 2280 over a heat sink which gets hot on top of an SSD that gets hot.

  • @luismn
    @luismn 4 года назад +9

    Is it still working fine?? Ideally this should be done with a 2230 or 2242 but the speeds get lower. No problems with overheating or the computer waking up? Thanks for the feedback.

    • @dakunclear
      @dakunclear 3 года назад

      That is my big concern as I have a 250GB Samsung 960 Evo sitting around and I want to do this but placing the ssd over top of the heatsink just screams destruction.

    • @dakunclear
      @dakunclear 3 года назад

      Okay looking into further not sure it's worth it as the Samsung SSD's create shit tons of heat which is probably why I have issues with my 960 Evo in the computer it's in. Now you can get some heat sinks but they add a lot of bulk another thing you can do is add thermal padding to help with heat dissipation but not sure if it's not just worth getting something for 300 bucks that are ripped out of a similar mac with more storage.

    • @dakunclear

    half of the smartasses are concerned about battery being connected. I have reopened and switched my SSDs like 5 times and did not had any issue so far.
    Quick tips: Rocket NVME 2242 is crap for macOS- boot just takes too long to finish. I tried running windows and realized that it is running blazing fast therefore my conclusion is macOS BigSur/Monterey has a problem with non-apple SSDs.

  • @xavierincepierre7773

    my original apple 512 gb ssd gets 2k write and 2.4k read idk how you were getting such low numbers maybe its because you have 126gb... The speeds also seem bottlenecked by the adaption process I think getting a 1gb original form factor off ebay will result in the same speeds at a cheaper price without having to worry about a long nvme 2.0, but i can only speculate based on my write speeds

    I installed here too using an ADATA XPG SX8100 PCIe Gen3x4 M.2 2280 On My MacBook Pro A1708 13" 2017 Intel I5 8 GB Ram.
    Important to know:
    1. The Bottom cover got bulging, the Mac gets unstable on the table. Using a plastic external case totally solved this issue!)
    2. After The Ssd Installation Pressing CMD+R didn't recognized the new ssd. Reboot and use CMD+OPTION+R instead > recognized my ssd like a charm ;)
    3. I made a fresh install of the Mac OS Big Sur.
    4. If you notice battery drainage (also during sleep) and overheating it's normal in the first days due to new ssd Indexing information > I recommend to Reset SMC (google it). Mine is getting more stable after 4 days.
    CONCLUSION:
    My Mac is amazingly 3x faster, 20% warmer and 10% less battery efficient.
    I'm still monitoring heating, but after 4 days it's getting a maximum of 98 degrees Celsius. and 70 degrees in average. (I'm guessing it's normal, due to the 3x faster performance. What do you guys think about this temperature?

      There will be heating issues with this. For starters, je's used insulating electrical tape, that will trap the heat under the m.2 ssd. Secondly, the m.2 NEEDS thermal pads on them because they get hotter than any other expansion drives. This is why you'll see most motherboards have thermal pads in their m.2 slots. DO NOT DO IT THIS WAY.

    This video is kinda horrible in term of showing people what to be done. 1st, the battery is the one screwed to the board on top of the trackpad in center position, not those trackpad connector. 2nd, you wont want to put a tape on top or on that heatsink. 3rd, you should cover the exposed part around the overlapping ssd using non conductive material like kepton tape or any other static shield, one that can resist heat is better. You dont want any part of your ssd pcb board accidentally short anything on that board.

Slow down phones to get you to upgrade to a new one, go out of their goddamn way to make it harder to repair their products, and as we see here they tried to make it where only a unique ssd can be inserted. An adapter should not have to be made. And to top the fucking cherry on the whip cream they solder the ssd onto the 15 inch versions. GREEDY ASS GARBAGE COMPANY!

    So... I did the same change as per the video here (Samsung 970 EVO 1TB), but properly disconnecting the battery :). Works almost fine.
    CONS:
    1. MACBOOK gets a bit more bulky on the bottom and is not perfectly flat anymore
    2. A touch of overheating is noticeable compared to before
    PROS:
    1. No issues with sleep mode
    2. Better speeds read/write as shown in the video
