Larry, I respect your talents but I wonder if you aren’t being pressured by old beliefs to start youngsters too soon. I’ve learned over the years that starting at 2 years, shortens the useful life of a horse. Let’s try to get owners to start their youngsters closer to 3 yrs than 2 yrs.
Actually, according to research, horses are in no jeopardy as a 2 year old as opposed to being older. I believe Springhill Equine DVM gives a lecture on this. As far as starting 2 yr old mentally, big benefits for Horse and rider. 2 year old accept training much easier and less stressfully than any other age. They take it as part of life.
They can have long term spine uses as their discs aren't fused yet.
