    great video! THANK YOU!
    I am currently camping, took a shower last night and fan stopped working. Same issue as yours. the foam got into the fan blades. Hopefully did not damage the motor but your video is the best I have found on resolving this issue.
    When I get back, I will perform the steps you outlined.

    Thanks for the video. I was able to successfully replace the old motor which had a thermal fuse attached to it.

    That is exactly what happened to mine after only 3-months of use. The foam gasket came loose and fried the motor. Completely cheap crap!!!

    Very good as my fan blade flew apart. Would like see how to remove the screen too.
    Thanks, Darrin

      Unfortunately I don't have video on how to remove the screen. It wasn't bad though - basically remove the white shroud surround that is held in place by the 3 screws to expose the fan. Then, remove the two screws under the grab handle that secure the screen to the bracket. It would help to have some sort of pivoting screwdriver, but I managed with a straight screwdriver. Once the screws are removed, you can finesse the screen out sideways to clear the handle, taking advantage of the space between the ceiling of the bathroom and the roof to slide the screen out. Hopefully that description made sense!

    Do you happen to know what fuse I need to pull in order to stop electrical current getting to the motor while I do this process?

    • @gnrwgn
      @gnrwgn  2 года назад

      I do not, but you could flip the main "House Battery" switch to kill power to the entire van just to make it easy!

    Thank you for this well made video!,, My bathroom fan is not working, I would like to begin by testing the switch, but I don't know how?, I have a voltmeter. Do you know how?

    • @gnrwgn
      @gnrwgn  4 года назад +1

      Voltmeter would be a good method! Set to DC volts (20V), red lead coming out of your Volts port, and measure across the two leads on the motor and confirm you see 12V when the switch is on. Good idea too to check your voltmeter's manual, there should be something there about how to test voltage.

      @@gnrwgn Thank you, I opened the fan from above, pulled out the switch up. I noticed some green oxidation on the plastic of the switch and that it was intermittently turning the motor on while pushing slowly or moving the wires around. I shot some electrical cleaner inside the crack around the red button, then some Corrosion X. I did the same on the top of the motor because it was making loud noise and to my happiness, all is good and running now!!

    Did you have to remove the solar panel in order to get the cover off?

    • @gnrwgn
      @gnrwgn  2 года назад

      As far as I can remember, you have to be able to access the two screws on the top of the bracket that the motor is mounted to, and the only way to easily do that is from above. IIRC there's no easy way to remove the fan assembly from below.

    My ventline barely moves any air. Do you think I could replace the stock motor with a stronger motor, everything else staying the same?

    • @gnrwgn
      @gnrwgn  3 года назад

      I'd assume you could, as long as the motor is 12V, is within the current of your gauge of wiring, and fits in the mount! Our ventline moves a decent amount of air though - maybe a new replacement motor would be a sufficient improvement for you if your motor isn't operating correctly.

    What did you use to re-seal the screws that were buried under that rubber sealant?

    • @gnrwgn
      @gnrwgn  2 года назад

      I used Dicor lap sealant! This stuff: dicorproducts.com/product/self-leveling-lap-sealants/

    I changed the insulation strip three times in the past 3 years. it won't hold more than 6 months. Do you have a solution? :-0)

    • @prebollido8008
      @prebollido8008 4 года назад +1

      What was the brand of the insulation strip that you used? I want to avoid using it. Thanks.

      @@prebollido8008 Lol,, same here!. I don't know which it was, It's the Airstream Factory that repaired it on warranty then the guys in the back gave me extra. I really don't think at this point anything will hold there due to humidity, water wind, cold,, hot. I am thinking of gluing a U trim shaped on the part sticking out of the roof where the top would sit on it as it lowers. If I hear of another trick from someone else I will let you know. I went on the roof to begin removing the motor and look at the whole situation I removed the blade mechanism. I have metal housing protecting the motor which makes access more difficult. so I just left everything for another day. Last night the motor started on its own and woke me up!! tho fan does run sometimes when it wants to!, still a defective motor,, or switch would you think?!

    • @gnrwgn
      @gnrwgn  4 года назад +1

      My solution was just to remove the insulation strip altogether! It was there from the factory, and it looks like just foam secured with double-sided tape.
