There’s a lot of criticism about PSA in these comments.. but don’t ignore that Nat was willing to come on this show and answer every question openly. He’s way more transparent than PSA has been in the past, which is a real positive. I think he’ll lead their ship in the right direction, and over time, solve the challenges many are commenting about.
Yes...I agree. Mr. Turner deserves respect and admiration for coming on to the show and addressing the current status; however, I think he should be able to take some building criticism. I also think he should note that his customers are speaking to him through...although adverse, but still a tone that is not overly aggressive or personally attacking. They are literally screaming for help. I am quite certain he can take some of these comments back to build on them...regardless of his business strategy. In this sense, I hope Mr. Turner does not take these comments as personal attacks. There's a fine balance between taking care of your customers and taking care of your business. It doesn't mean we are dealing with bad or terrible people...just maybe bad business from an outside perspective. I get where you are going with your comment...just wanted to let you know that my comments are not personal; they are simply business minded.
I actually like Nat a lot and have always respected him as a collector. But how do you put one of the highest profile PSA collectors in charge of the grading company he invests in? He has a lot of PSA set registries. So it's hard not to imagine bias in how certain cards will now be graded. For example I've got what's probably the nicest 66 PSA9 Mantle in existence. The general consensus is that it is deserving of a 10 review. But Nat owns the only PSA10 in existence. So why would I even waste money on a review? LOL
@@ryandeffley7652 wow you’re right I can guarantee you get either a lower grade or the same grade if anything. He was obviously lying when talking about pop control you can see his actions get fidgety and laughing is always a giveaway when someone lies. We all know it’s pop control.
Not defending him, but in business you can't announce any specifics before the official announcement. I don't buy that "they are still planning" what services they will put out and pricing. They know this by now. Overall was a weak interview but I wasn't expecting any actual details. I don't see this helping with their PR with the public.
I have about 200 cards in PSA right now and over 80% of them were sent in September of last year come on how can you take in more submissions when you have people waiting almost 10 months and all my stuff is stuck on level 3. Psa isn't opening up full throttle for a long time.
@@dubson965 yeah this guys a walking cringefest. One of the reasons hobby is inflated by 10 x right now is guys like this who got in hobby to invest only. He cld give two sh%#s about the actual hobby of collecting cards for enjoyment.
Nate made it very clear. It will take a year to "catch up." It would be better for PSA to simply reveal the true backlog numbers during this time. They don't have to do it again, but at least a true show of transparency. If they are so confident in their employees, methods, and practices, why not?
Strong agree with Nat that I liked it better in the late 1990's and 2000's when there were no exclusive licenses. I have a whole bunch of Peyton Manning rookies and the pictures are actually different! Now Panini will use the same picture for a dozen early season releases - what's the point?
@@TheMusicman95382 so you are complaining about receiving higher grades? Explain that logic 😂. Just stop grading then. Nat is being upfront and doing the best they can
80% of cards would not b sent in at 50/card. They need close to that 80% to keep all new employees busy. If they lay off these employees due to not enough submissions, egg on their face. 15/card will return
Not from PSA. Theyre going to kill their market. I sent a $300 card and it took 10 days to grade and come back. 9+ months for my bulk order and no time in sight to get it back.
@@morsteen there has been times when raw was every collectors bread and butter. why does every card need to be slabbed? What does the slab change in the low tier range? I can look at the cards by myself, I dont need someone with less experience with cards because he/she just got hired and "trained" for a few weeks to tell me that my 100$ card is mint or gem mint. I just put it in my mag for 2$ and its fine because the slab doesnt change the card a single bit. Its the same card and stays the same card. So its not the hobbyists that they are really hurting. They hurt all these folks which thought flipping for 10x profit by buying raw cards and grade them will work forever. Or that ripping product no matter whats inside always makes you profit if you just grade alle the base cards and sell them slabbed. Guess what it wont. And it will prolly never work again with these profit margins. And thats not because of cruel PSA its because the market automaticly closes small windows of opportunity like that especially when people go out on youtube making billions of videos how easy it is to make money with it. So imho its the right step of PSA for now. What we as collectors need to do is to stop paying a premium for slabbed cards which have tens of thousands of mint copies out in the wild. If we do that PSA then can lower the prices because they will only get the cards people want slabbed to keep them in their PC and not because there is a huge abitrage opportunity. Overall I am fine with how the whole situation plays out at the moment. It wasnt sustainable at all and easily could have destroyed the hobby. Those premium prices of PSA 10s pushed sealed product into heights where I am getting sick of it. Latley I ordered Soccer Bundesliga Topps Sapphire. Its about 270$ with shipping of the topps germany homepage and you get 32 cards with 2 parallels guaranteed and getting an autograph is impossible with like 1 in 400 packs. And when you hit the autograph its 98% of a low tier player of a low tier team and is worth just a few bucks because the check list is huge. 1-2 years ago that was a 60$ box but Panini and Topps are pushing up the prices aswell now because every card is worth a fortune in PSA 10 nowadays. Thats the real issue in the hobby right now and not the slab prices
It is dependent upon the markets willingness to pay. There's a ceiling, but only PSA has an idea of what that might be. They should be able to figure this out using the market response to their current and limited pricing structure.
But PSA still took the money to grade. Who cares what people grade, it's personal preference. If I don't favor who you like to PC, does that make you wrong for collecting that player? PSA has gotten us to think the consumer is wrong, when PSA is the issue and can't fix their process.
I’ve had noticeably damaged cards come back from PSA, graded as a 10. I’ve had “perceived 10’s”, meaning, no visible damage at all prior to sending it to PSA, come back a 9. The inconsistency has been an issue with PSA IMO. I hope this has been reviewed and corrected. I prefer PSA hands down for my grading. Just need to know I can rely on accurate grades. Good to know PSA will reimburse aftermarket PSA 10/10 graded cards if obvious damage was missed. Mine is a 1991 Chipper Jones RC 10/10 with a bent corner
Agreed..my friend. The inconsistencies of PSA is one of the key variables of it's success. ...something to chew on. If you know what you have before you send it (meaning ..there's plenty of us great "collector-graders" out there), then your less adamant to send a 9 to a company looking to give a deserving grade. 🤠
@@TheMusicman95382 Really sorry to hear that. I’d be frustrated with that! Is there a “claims submission form” for PSA to fill out there is with Topps?
He mentions that in March it got too out of hand? People are still waiting on cards from August and September of last year....idk how a company this successful is ran so poorly.
for cards worth less than th grading fees. it's not there fault they got flooded with modern base cards. slabbed modern base cards from this era will continue to drop for years for most players.
because there's a preponderance of dopes dumping wheelbarrows full of money at their door, and will continue to do so, even after getting fisted on increased cost and outrageous turnaround times. So there's absolutely zero need to streamline any facet of the company or the process. So glad I'm not in this to flip... I just like what I like, most of the players/cards that mean anything to me are next to worthless anyway. Good luck to all the hawkers trying to flip their Zion Williamson cards (will that dude even matter three seasons from now?)

Nat Turner making sure every single order gets checked thoroughly for upcharges, while the PSA warehouse stays slammed with millions of cards. We see where the priorities are.
I don't understand why they don't just limit the amount of cards that each account can submit, for example say the average account can submit 100 cards every 60 business days or something and the bulk submitters would be able to do more but at a limit. Why is that so hard to implement? That seems fair to me.
Holy shit, if you ever want to see your cards in the next year or two, don't send here. I'm good. Going to be sending to SGC. Not paying premiums to see a red label on my card when SGC is an established and accurate grading company for a fraction of a price. Great video, very informative, but taking my business elsewhere.
@@FrenchToastMashedPotatoes look at the value difference between the 2 slabs tho. A psa 10 and a sgc 10 values are way different psa will always be superior
From experience, it’s more than the color of the label. PSA has the highest return on investment in the aftermarket. I agree though. HGA & SGC are by far the most efficient graders right now. They resell pretty well, but still not where PSA is. A conundrum, no doubt 🤷🏼♂️
Glad Geoff had Nat on. There was one comment though... "Manage population, that's silly why would we do that?"....... To keep gem mint supply down so demand rises over time. Panini and Topps didn't all of a sudden start declining in thier manufacturing methods to produce more damaged cards. The drastic turn in less 10s and more 8s and 9s is pretty simple for anyone without a finance degree to know "why you'd do that"
both topps and Panini's quality control has been in the tank since they had to try new printers and suppliers for products, if you actually opened a case of the products instead of buying the card from a dealer charging to much for the item you would know this. I have hundreds of cards that were damaged coming out of the packs to return to both topps and panini.
@@bobo44donemilking51 compared to pre pandemic both companies quality control sucks at the moment I have an 800 count box to send back to topps for replacement now and video to prove out of pack.
perhaps not, re: the manufacturers, but as time goes by, the better cards will already be in graded holders, so the raw cards that remain ungraded are going to have more and more flaws...if cards from the 80's and 90's aren't already in a graded card holder, most likely it has fleas -- that isn't pop control -- it's the population of gem mint raw cards going down and down with each passing year
I was waiting for the question of when are we going to get more automation in grading to improve consistfency and speed? It will solve a lot of problems for the collector, for PSA, and for the industry. Having been in IT technology for many years and developed technology automation solutions for multiple large companies, and also being a collector for over 30 years, there is no reason it should not be done already, It does not have to be totally automated but just vision checking grading would be a huge step forward in grading.
You know there's people that need jobs and there's plenty of office space available. Hire more people until the backlog is gone. Taking a year to grade bulk lots from long ago is BS.
Great interview. Nate communicating with collectors and customers is awesome. Thank you Geoff for this. I just noticed my silver PSA membership is extended for 3 months. Normally would have been due in October now due in January 2022. 3 months. This might be a indicator that they will open up in July.
I love how he says "That's not how we roll" referring to grading 2-3 times as many cards per day to catch up the back log. PSA has a name and reputation that is way more solid than any others imo and taking just as much time and putting the same amount of care into grading cards as they were before the "boom" happened. HUGE difference in the company's response vs the response I saw from the interview you did with SGC saying they are doing 20-30x more than they were back when this all happened but only hiring enough hands to maybe do 5-10x. I have noticed a huge dip in quality of SGCs grades because of this as well. Everyone wants to sit there and get mad about their cards taking so long to get back but in reality I would rather them take their time to grade my cards right compared to just pushing out as many as they can which would then in turn make PSA slabs drop substantially
Great interview. A realistic overview of what's going on at PSA. People have to realize they have to maintain their integrity when grading and that demand for grading has exploded. People also has to remember that they are running a business, it's not just a service, the have to operate as a business and there is a lot going on behind the scenes that some folks in the comments simply don't want to understand
they cant manage population because everyone cracks out cards and tries to get them regraded or sell them raw again. i dont think they even try anymore he means
He basically said they will manage incoming flow by raising prices on lower priced cards. Base flipping is over and you will have to wait a long time even at higher price. Controlling inflow like Disneyland does. Supply an demand I guess.
They need to eliminate massive group bulk orders, put a limit to MEMBERS ONLY per month, and update the submitters better as the cards progress through the system so the site doesn't say that they are in research and ID for 7 months.
@@slappykyl3 I don't know how you know this information. But I think if the process wasn't clogged for an entire day or week by bulk orders, then they can get to more orders or the smaller people. Anyone in any town can say they have a shop and submit 1000 cards, meanwhile, our cards sit and wait. For months, years.
Why limited builk orders for your own well being. If you want to invest and submit a lot of cards, you should have the right. instead of 1 bulk order of lets say 200 what you want 20 orders of 10???
Psa has said that they prefer group bulk orders because it saves them so much time. That’s why some bulk groups get a slight discount. They don’t want 100 people submitting a package of 10 cards, but they’ll gladly take a package of 1000 cards. I think bulk submitters will allow you to get your cards back way faster.
@@BRRRwm Its quite simple...1 massive bulk order of 1-2 boxes versus 100 boxes from 100 different people...PSA only has to worry about storing 1 box, opening 1 box, and sending back 1 box. It saves ALOT of time. If anything, they need to stop INDIVIDUAL subs under $50 a card.
BGS is much more accurate. I see way to many psa10s that are clearly off centered or have edge issues. When you upcharge higher grades, its a great incentive to be dishonest on your grading. Every CEO will tell his employees to upgrade to get higher charges. This is fraudulent.

I mean all grading companies combined will prolly grade 20-30 million cards this year despite mostly being closed. Who the hell will even buy all these. Not to imagine they could handle the traffic we prolly would speak about 80m+ cards this year with all the realeases coming. The market gets flooded by that and will drown badly. So, 4 months later and no progress - well at least we still have cards in waiting 10+ months and we have inconsistent grading, pop report control and no end in sight. But, let PSA be the gold standard in the resale market... makes so much sense.
It is amazing to me that anyone deals with these companies anymore. The only reason that people do is because most of their investments and intrinsic value is in PSA and Beckett. This is why other companies like SGC will always be third. It is sad. We are now at the point where you pay an enormous fee to get a card graded and wait a year. The process is terrible and I think that people should give credence and respect to another company that grades with the same attitude as PSA and Beckett. I wouldn't even care if it was SGC or another newer company. This is realistically what i see happening because there is no way that these companies can keep up with demand and the market will have to let another company "in" with the same level of respect.
I give zero shits about PSA until they finally return my 30 card bulk lot that I sent them over 9 months ago. Maybe take all the cash you made and get the Blackstock graded. After 4 months I would've just taken them back and sent them to SGC.
Sgc hired plenty of people and are getting cards out in a timely manner. I've seen plenty of psa 10s that were off center and or dinged up. Psa is kind of a joke.
That's what makes me thinking that PSA service is overpriced and in near future because of this inconsistency their graded cards might devaluate. When one company losses another earns and I think SGC and other can earn the market now.
I don't trust any human grading company no consistency. If PSA starts using AI will those slabs differ from the older human graded slabs? I can't imagine old slabs holding value once AI is an industry standard.

Ask him why PSA grades are so inconsistent. They are definitely, positively grading much, much harder lately. They are trying to change their PSA 10 into a BGS 10 Black label. Not our fault they chose this grading format. Why do they play favorites and give better grades to certain customers?
I've often wondered how they differentiate between a gem mint 10 and a gem mint 10. I know...my statement doesn't make much sense, but my point is...if a grader looks hard enough, would there not be some form of inclusion or discrepancy found. ...just saying. How do we determine what cards we should send in for selling purposes? Is there a percentage of cost of card submission vs raw/graded price to determine
I wouldn’t send a card to get graded unless it’s raw value is 3x the grading fee. For example I won’t grade with SGC for $30 unless it’s worth $100 raw. I won’t grade with PSA for $300 unless it’s worth at least ~$1000 raw

Not from PSA. Theyre going to kill their market. I sent a $300 card and it took 10 days to grade and come back. 9+ months for my bulk order and no time in sight to get it back.
30 is too much for a single card. They cut out so much from the "regular joe", really doing a disservice to people who are actually hobbyists.
“Are people grading the wrong cards”...love it, some great questions!

I love how he says "That's not how we roll" referring to grading 2-3 times as many cards per day to catch up the back log. HUGE difference in the company's response vs the response I saw from the interview you did with SGC saying they are doing 20-30x more than they were back when this all happened but only hiring enough hands to maybe do 5-10x. I have noticed a huge dip in quality of SGCs grades because of this as well. Why limited builk orders for your own well being. If you want to invest and submit a lot of cards, you should have the right. instead of 1 bulk order of lets say 200 what you want 20 orders of 10???

@@neilbratton2543 first I have heard of that. I don’t think people who work for a grading company should be able to grade cards, with that company. It just looks bad. Has HGA or Beckett had fraud?
@@johnwithee1091 Yeah i'm convinced you have 14 IQ LMAOOOOO. He literally just said BGS had fraud.
How smirky this guy seems. I will never use this company again! HGA grades their cards with computers and chargers a realist cost. To get a 10 is more realistically HGA than an overflow of fake 10s.
You do know PSA purchased a new software a few months ago called Gemamint AI to help grade cards. HGA also limits the submission, I believe this last go around the max is 7500 cards?
@@canton444 I do know that but I believe they’re not using it yet or they’re only using it for certain cards. Also HGA is upfront and I can appreciate that. We need more options at the top to keep PSA in check.
@@Italiag1 exactly and PSA better get it together before HGA starts to allow bulk submissions or somewhat of an increase. HGA has made grading fun again like it used to be with PSA.
@@Tony_Pepperoni agree!
Dude HGA is giving out too many 9s and 9.5s to establish credibility, look at their instagram page, literally only a handful of 10s and they are mostly 2019-2020 basketball... come on, unless all ultra modern cards are made like crap now.
How will PSA reopen when their backlog is still way over due??
They won’t for atleast another year lol
Collectors? Give me a break. They collect because their is value. I have been in the industry 48 years and people that say they Collect are the very same people that buy cheap and sell high. This is a industry.
@@Tony_Pepperoni Imho there is no scenario where what happened with flipping this year was sustainable any longer. Thats what actually destroys the market for investors. Killing the exclusiveness of slabs. Slabbed cards up for trade/sale have always been rare premium cards. Pricey cards. Cards that are rare enough that they needed to be authenticated and their condition needed to be veryfied. Slabbed low end cards were for peoples private collections. Cards they wanted to keep anyways. All these low end mass produced cards that are send in for flipping reasons oversaturate the market big time. How should that end? I mean all grading companies combined will prolly grade 20-30 million cards this year despite mostly being closed. Who the hell will even buy all these. Not to imagine they could handle the traffic we prolly would speak about 80m+ cards this year with all the realeases coming. The market gets flooded by that and will drown badly. So in the end these actions will save investors but kill flippers pretty much. Shops will have to go back to raw in the lower tiers which is not bad at all because it worked for the past 30 years. Kids can have their cards in toploaders or mags they dont need them in slabs. I hope this will also lower the base price of product again because the price is not driven up because every base card is worth a fortune when being slabbed
@@bvbftw I agree totally. as a true card collector, (topps sets complete back to 1972) I have 2 graded cards in my collection. grade rc's and prospects only. top loaders work great when you can get them.. Pandemic is killing the industry as much as anything else.
I could not have said it better, Johnny. I like red dots too.
Hi Johnny, the industry has definitely changed. We had ONE card shop in our city in 1979. Cards were readily available, from many sports. Nowadays, and moving forward basically since 1990, this has become an industry. From the time that James Beckett put out his first magazine with price values. It's just on a whole new scale now. Couldn't agree with you more.
@@robdemare8250 spot on.
Glad you had this guy on, gives me a different perspective of PSA.
Whoa, didn’t expect to see you here haha. Agreed though.
I sent in 28 Jordan cards last year for the Grade the Goat monthly special. They just arrive 10 days ago. They were just graded around 2 weeks ago. Got just one 10 out the the bunch. Even got a 5, some 6, 7 and 8's. And a few nines. They would have graded much, much higher if they would have graded them right away. But 2 weeks ago, I got hammered. They are much, much tougher on grades lately.
I sent PSA a link for an auction for a fake slab... i got a respond from PSA that person said they were not a grader and that was the end of it. I was quite disappointed. Not quit what Nat is saying.
Nat has my respect 👍 thanks for posting this video
Adios PSA....CSG SCG HGA going forward, Nat interview revealed little positive for the average collector. Greed is killing PSA. I hope they get it together or it's time to move on...

PSA are the villains of the hobby
This is realistically what i see happening because there is no way that these companies can keep up with demand and the market will have to let another company "in" with the same level of respect.
i can confirm fake slabs are a thing bought one off of ebay without knowing really sucks
I give zero shits about PSA until they finally return my 30 card bulk lot that I sent them over 9 months ago. Maybe take all the cash you made and get the Blackstock graded. After 4 months I would've just taken them back and sent them to SGC.
just be patient, whats the rush to have them slabbed in the most valuable slab???
Sgc hired plenty of people and are getting cards out in a timely manner. I've seen plenty of psa 10s that were off center and or dinged up. Psa is kind of a joke.
That's what makes me thinking that PSA service is overpriced and in near future because of this inconsistency their graded cards might devaluate. When one company losses another earns and I think SGC and other can earn the market now.
Good interview
I'm holding my cards for PSA to open it may take Time but it will be worth it in the long game 👍💯
Love the insight from Nat
I don't trust any human grading company no consistency. If PSA starts using AI will those slabs differ from the older human graded slabs? I can't imagine old slabs holding value once AI is an industry standard.
They're already using ai bro for like 8 months
@@rage508cardsngrails PSA acquired Genamint, Inc. in April. I have yet to see the AI implementation on any graded cards.

I would think most companies use some kind of measuring device to tell How off center a card is especially on Prizm cards when they are not equal borders as the Luka card is, that was a hard card to just eye ball. and you could hold 3 cards and they would all be different. very poor quality control from panini on that set.

@@morsteen something like this would for sure help a lot

strange take on the first question- PSA shouldn't care about whether its an investment or collector or even what the value of the card or anything outside of the fact its an original- their only thought should be of the grade of that card at the second they are grading it. That said- I actually am happy for higher pricing for many reasons. I prefer raw over graded but I would think people that own a lot of graded cards would be happy for higher pricing as well. Existing slabs will increase in value by default
Thank god. I’ve heard the acronym “SGC” enough for a lifetime these past months.. ready for PSA to reopen, at whatever level.

Why didn't you ask him to explain why literally everyone's gem rate has plummeted in the last 6 months yet he says there grading standards haven't changed. So I guess we have all gone blind when it comes to grading cards. His response to the pop control thing was laughable
Raising Prices on card submission is not the only way..as a consumer, hire more employees and train them...
What’s the price now pre cards
Ask him why PSA grades are so inconsistent. They are definitely, positively grading much, much harder lately. They are trying to change their PSA 10 into a BGS 10 Black label. Not our fault they chose this grading format. Why do they play favorites and give better grades to certain customers?
DUDE !!! Exactly...psa is so bad
I've often wondered how they differentiate between a gem mint 10 and a gem mint 10. I know...my statement doesn't make much sense, but my point is...if a grader looks hard enough, would there not be some form of inclusion or discrepancy found. ...just saying. Does it really depend on the customer and/or the customer connection? Things that make you go...HMMM! I guess if we worried too much about things outside our control or that of people, we could simply go mad.
Agreed. He says there's no mandate but I believe the new position at PSA is "When in doubt, it's a 9." Whereas in the past it may have been "When in doubt, it's a 10." 100% standards have gotten tougher overnight. Went from 50-60% gem rates on bulks, to 15-25% last few bulks. Same person subbing (me), drastically altered results.
@@throwbacksportscards9296 exactly and it should be when in doubt it's a psa 10.....also it should be naked eye grading only , nobody looks at cards through a microscopic view. Also there should be entire teams of quality control groups who view every single card graded

How about getting Panini on to talk about redemptions. Older cards awaiting signatures from players when newer cards have that player’s autograph.

Yea that buyback policy for fakes or defects is fucking LIT
Sub control seems simple to me. Make every submitter equal and limit how many cards they can submit. Change that number if submissions get too heavy. Limit to what you can actual process within the promised timeline.
Your the man
The % changes from PSA 9 vs PSA 10 speak for themselves. Even when variables are the same (same submitter, same cards graded this year vs last few years and before)
What this tells me is, BULK SUBMITTERS BEWARE! HE HATES US
Exactly. Group submitters are also about to get cut out
They don't even pay their scanning clerks or graders a living wage. I applied just for the hell of it. 15/hr. In Santa Ana, California. Not sure if this would have anything to do with the personnel not really caring as much as he makes it seem. Also, funny how they mentioned in the interview that it would be a conflict of interest if I was a collector and would be actively submitting while working there. But this guy can be a set builder and run the company!? Ooookkkkk.
