Discover the best office in the world on the island of Culatra | Mudar para Melhor

This is an original series created by the Empower Brands Channel and conducted by Fátima Lopes, one of the most respected Portuguese television hosts and also ambassador of the Empower Brands Community, who took on the mission of intervening positively in the transformation and dignification of talent in less attractive professional activities.
The title is, by itself, illustrative of the objectives of this project. It is not just a question of wanting to change professional life opportunities for the better, taking a fresh look at activities that are more traditional or considered minor. It is also about changing for the better the development of sectors that are important to the country's economy, as well as the perception of entrepreneurs about the importance that people have in the sustainability of their operations. And, with these changes, change Portugal as a country for the better. There is an evolution and very innovative visions in professional activities related to agriculture, the sea, civil construction and industry, which are still unknown. And, therefore, there is a wrong idea that makes these activities undervalued, either by younger talent or by entrepreneurs who need to dignify a workforce that tends to disappear. It is with this ambition that the Mudar para Melhor series seeks out stories and information that add value and transform the country in each episode.
With a first season of six episodes entirely dedicated to professional activities related to the sea, the premiere of the Mudar para Melhor series is supported by the Mar 2020 Program. In this first episode, we visit the island of Culatra in the middle of Ria Formosa, in Algarve, looking for stories and cases that show us how Mar 2020 measures are being applied while promote environmental sustainability, resource-efficience, innovation, competitiveness and knowledge-based fisheries and aquaculture, as well as an incentive to increase employment and territorial cohesion.
It is here that Fátima Lopes discovers a new reality in the fishing community, which is revitalized by attracting young people to oyster farming and preserving shellfish production. A reinvention of a traditional profession, now designated as oyster growers, which with new techniques develops a product of excellence that positions Portugal as a European reference in the oyster market. It is with the entrepreneurial spirit of oyster farmers that Nuno Leonardo and Miguel Buchinho led us through the future of the tradition of bivalve production, now in the hands of young people. At the same time, we are inspired by the materialization of the love for the sustainability of the natural ecosystem through the vision of Sílvia Padinha, who is also an oyster producer and president of the Associação de Moradores da Culatra (Association of Residents of Culatra). Which, with the University of Algarve and the support of Mar 2020, is developing an energy transition plan that guarantees, among other changes, the construction of a boat powered by solar energy to preserve the quality of the water in the Ria, fundamental for excellence of oysters and clams. Who said that working on the sustainability of bivalve production at Culatra is not working in the best office in the world?

Teria sido importante contextualizar a área protegida onde se desenrola este episódio: o Parque Natural da Ria Formosa. Mencionaram a ria, mas nunca o Parque Natural. Teria sido muito importante esta contextualização, para todos, para quem vê e para quem ali vive e trabalha, por todos os motivos. Estas pessoas trabalham e vivem dentro duma área protegida. Esta relação nunca deve ser esquecida, ou como aconteceu, neste caso, omitida. Assim a mensagem não passou na integra. Ainda para mais sendo este programa no âmbito do Programa Operacional MAR 2020.
