I watched it twice. I feel like it could have ended differently. She is more stubborn than Bai Qian (Eternal Love). I can totally understand why she did what she did. I just feel like if you love someone as much as she did there would have been a way for her to forgive him. In the end I felt his love for her was stronger. I do not think he understood until it was too late. They were too young to comprehend it.

I think this song really suit the movie, there's a sadness in this song, it's totally describe the movie. I love the song as much as i love the drama, such a heartbreaking with a beautiful story drama. Everytime i hear this song i always remember all the pain and suffer that Xiao Feng felt. At first i hate Gu Xiaowu ( Li Chengyin) so much, but as times goes i slowly understand he also love her as much as she love him, both of them are truly in love but fate just playing hard on them. In this drama we actually only see from Xiao feng point of view, we never exactly know how Chengyin feels, at some point you also can see Chengyin doesn't want to hurt her, he just love her so much, he can die for her. This is the first drama that hit my heart so hard, while i watching it, its feels like i can feel their pain and their love, their love is deep, even when they already forget each other they still fall in love again in the second time, even their lose their memory but they once again build another memories together, this prove their love last forever. Most beautiful drama with such a sad ending that i ever watch. They mean to meet and love each other, but doesn't mean to be together... such a beautiful love story that we can't even imagine...

*Drama Review* *I cry so much while watching her cry bcz its was so heartbreaking to watch her crying. So much horrible things happened to her. And the selfishness of the male lead want her to love him. Bro you kill her beloved ones in front of her eyes and now you expect from her to love you back. NAH BRO NAH. it will not gonna happened. I think I really understand Xiao Feng when she chose to die. LCY used her to kill her family. There is no such thing as forgive and forget. I think she forgave him, but she knows that even if they will be together, it won't be the same anymore. Even if they did manage to heal each other, the fact that a painful history happened will never be forgotten. (This is kinda similar to The Rise of the Phoenix). I too know a lot of people who have hurt my family (like really hurt them)... For years I hated them. I did forgive them, but we can never be the same anymore. Like XF and LCY, they will have to suffer the memories of pain they brought to each other. XF will have to force herself to smile and pretend that nothing happened. She can't do that. She won't do that knowing that the blood of her family, her people, are on her husband's hands. She was also smart enough to barter years of peace for her country, not just killed herself like a selfish woman. In the end, LCY's punishment was to live with guilt for the rest of his life... and I think that is enough punishment to last him a lifetime considering he truly loved XF. I'm crying. I'll watch it again for the nth time.
I know. He is really a piece of... in the drama, but he is worse in the novel version. We all may hate his concubine in the drama, but in the novel we realize that the concubine is much more pitiful maybe even more pitiful than the female lead. She indeed treated the female lead badly, but I still find her pitiful in the novel. She is not evil when you compare her to the Male lead. She was pretty much used by him. He literally decieved her through his fake affection. From the beginning, his goal was revenge and she was just a pawn( spoiler: in the drama, the concubine and him didn't have that kind of relationship I believe, but in the novel they pretty much did live like husband and wife and then he discarded her like a tissue paper. When she understood the truth, and was about to die( killed by him), she realized that the female lead is the only one who might really care whether she died or not. I find this one of the saddest part in the novel to know that the one you put your entire life on didn't give a damn about you, but the one you hated more than anyone maybe the only one who cared about you. )Anyway, the concubine is much more smarter in the novel and is more intelligent, but her only mistake was falling in love with a cruel man like him. If she had never loved him, she would have achieved more in her life. I hate the Male lead the most, especially in the novel.
I don't know this drama but just by hearing this soundtrack, I will definitely start watching later Update: I just finished it and have to admit it beats Ashes of Love. AOL was my top #2 but I have to put this one #2. My top 5 list: 1- Ten miles of Peach Blossom 2- Goodbye my Princess 3- The Untamed 4- Ashes of Love 5- Journey of a flower I didn't understand why the cast for AOL didn't win first place but now I understand it is because there are a lot of competent actors with so much emotions they can trigger from viewers. May be you are new to Chinese dramas but there are so many great dramas comparing to Goodbye my princess such as, Princess Agent, Rise of Phoenix, Legend of Fuyao and so on.. I mean, Goodbye my princess is awesome and I loved it. If I had to rate it, It wouldn't really put it above Ashes of Love scale. It is so addicting. I know it is not healthy but each time I listen to OSTs I cry because all the pain and wounds reopen in my heart. But when the pain slowly starts to fade. I come back here listen to this master piece and become a sobbing ball again. I don't know how to break this cycle. There's so much I want to say. How much I relate to the pain portrayed in this drama. Being betrayed by people who you once thought were there to protect you. To find the dark secret and truth behind the person so close and dear to you. To not treat the person you love with the love and care the way they deserve because of your shortcomings and personal reasons (stupid mental health). To watch the person you love hurt. To hate the person you love so much. But at the same time you can't hate them because you love them and know that they are just a human and they are not at fault, they're just trying their hardest to survive. And then you hate yourself even more for having all these mixed feelings. You just want to tear your heart out and throw it somewhere so don't have to feel again. This drama literally took a piece of me as it ended. A part of me ended with it too. How much I wanted to be that carefree Xiaofeng before everything tragic happened. Only to realise in the end I can never be that version of Xiaofeng. And that I ressemble the hollow broken version of Xiaofeng (but in ugly and fat). I can never recover from this.

This is one drama that will haunt me for the ages mainly because of our two leads' intense/doomed relationship! It's so sad that circumstances made it impossible for our lovers to be together. XF's (Xiaofeng) inability to forgive/accept LCY (Li Chengyin) mainly stems from HER involvement in the whole massacre of her maternal tribe. However you spin it, she was the key to Danchi being conquered and who were the ones who set her up? LCY and GJ (Gu Jian). And she blames LCY more because he deceived her affections (betrayal is more raw when it's committed by the person you're in love with) and from her perspective, the way he used her to wipe out her clan members was utterly underhanded and despicable. If LCY had found some other way to defeat XF's maternal clan without getting her involved, then she would have been able to forgive/accept him. Before her memories came back, she'd already come to terms with falling in love with the man who killed her grandfather and conquered her maternal tribe. But it was the memories of her involvement in LCY/GJ's plans that doomed their relationship and made her go all crazy. She can not and will not accept falling TWICE for the man who got her to indirectly kill her family members. In her mind, even if it was unintentional, she had a hand in the annihilation of her tribe and it was all because of her feelings for LCY. She ultimately couldn't live with that fact. And I can't say I blame her. The moment she regained her memories, it was game over for our couple. Sigh...I love both characters and understood their plight because given the historical time period and context, neither of them is morally right or wrong: They're simply on different sides. The only reason people hate on LCY is because of how lovable XF and her maternal clan were and it crushed everyone to see their beloved characters destroyed. I also got very attached and almost couldn't watch their demise because it was so painful. But I also recognize that all's fair in love and war and it was Danchi's own fault for trusting an outsider like LCY. They would have done the same thing to LCY's country if given the opportunity. In war, both sides will stop at nothing to one up the other and will be on the lookout for any openings. LCY's side simply saw one first and took it. It was just too bad that XF had to be caught in the middle and LYC, their enemy from the other side, hopelessly fell for the pawn in his plans. My heart weeps... Overall, circumstances made it impossible for our lovers to be together and yet, I couldn't help but root for them anyway because of my understanding and love for both characters and their incredible chemistry . The only way they could have been together is if LCY regained his memories first and took measures to ensure XF's memories stayed locked up forever. He'd probably keep feeding her water from the river of forgetfulness. Ultimately, that would be the better fate for our XF as she'd be with the man she loves without all the pain/guilt.
I think he had amnesia from jumping into the river of forgetfulness with her twice, which made him become a tyrant, forgetting their love was once pure. I thought his memories didn't return until after she slit her own throat

best chinese drama i've ever watched. the main problem is the collective memory of the massacre of the danchi kingdom. li chengyin uses his wife to pursue his ambitions, but also destroys his own life. chengyin only pursues xiaofeng's body and throne, but ignores xiaofeng's feelings and experiences. chengyin character is the male lead that I first hated. I really hate the characters of gu xiaowu and li chengyin, but on the other hand this character is also very sad. I also spent a lot of tissue to watch this drama. the best and heart-wrenching drama 😭😭😭❤️

Glad the ending was happy

I think I really understand Xiao Feng when she chose to die. LCY used her to kill her family. There is no such thing as forgive and forget. I think she forgave him, but she knows that even if they will be together, it won't be the same anymore. Even if they did manage to heal each other, the fact that a painful history happened will never be forgotten. (This is kinda similar to The Rise of the Phoenix). I too know a lot of people who have hurt my family (like really hurt them)... For years I hated them. I did forgive them, but we can never be the same anymore. Like XF and LCY, they will have to suffer the memories of pain they brought to each other. XF will have to force herself to smile and pretend that nothing happened. She can't do that. She won't do that knowing that the blood of her family, her people, are on her husband's hands. She was also smart enough to barter years of peace for her country, not just killed herself like a selfish woman.
In the end, LCY's punishment was to live with guilt for the rest of his life... and I think that is enough punishment to last him a lifetime considering he truly loved XF.

I know. He is really a piece of... in the drama, but he is worse in the novel version. We all may hate his concubine in the drama, but in the novel we realize that the concubine is much more pitiful maybe even more pitiful than the female lead. She indeed treated the female lead badly, but I still find her pitiful in the novel. She is not evil when you compare her to the Male lead. She was pretty much used by him. He literally decieved her through his fake affection. From the beginning, his goal was revenge and she was just a pawn( spoiler: in the drama, the concubine and him didn't have that kind of relationship I believe, but in the novel they pretty much did live like husband and wife and then he discarded her like a tissue paper. When she understood the truth, and was about to die( killed by him), she realized that the female lead is the only one who might really care whether she died or not. I find this one of the saddest part in the novel to know that the one you put your entire life on didn't give a damn about you, but the one you hated more than anyone maybe the only one who cared about you. )Anyway, the concubine is much more smarter in the novel and is more intelligent, but her only mistake was falling in love with a cruel man like him. If she had never loved him, she would have achieved more in her life. I hate the Male lead the most, especially in the novel.

It is so addicting. I know it is not healthy but each time I listen to OSTs I cry because all the pain and wounds reopen in my heart. But when the pain slowly starts to fade. I come back here listen to this master piece and become a sobbing ball again. I don't know how to break this cycle.
There's so much I want to say. How much I relate to the pain portrayed in this drama. Being betrayed by people who you once thought were there to protect you. To find the dark secret and truth behind the person so close and dear to you. To not treat the person you love with the love and care the way they deserve because of your shortcomings and personal reasons (stupid mental health). To watch the person you love hurt. To hate the person you love so much. But at the same time you can't hate them because you love them and know that they are just a human and they are not at fault, they're just trying their hardest to survive. And then you hate yourself even more for having all these mixed feelings. You just want to tear your heart out and throw it somewhere so don't have to feel again.
This drama literally took a piece of me as it ended. A part of me ended with it too.
How much I wanted to be that carefree Xiaofeng before everything tragic happened. Only to realise in the end I can never be that version of Xiaofeng. And that I ressemble the hollow broken version of Xiaofeng (but in ugly and fat). I can never recover from this.

This is one drama that will haunt me for the ages mainly because of our two leads' intense/doomed relationship! It's so sad that circumstances made it impossible for our lovers to be together. XF's (Xiaofeng) inability to forgive/accept LCY (Li Chengyin) mainly stems from HER involvement in the whole massacre of her maternal tribe. However you spin it, she was the key to Danchi being conquered and who were the ones who set her up? LCY and GJ (Gu Jian). And she blames LCY more because he deceived her affections (betrayal is more raw when it's committed by the person you're in love with) and from her perspective, the way he used her to wipe out her clan members was utterly underhanded and despicable.
If LCY had found some other way to defeat XF's maternal clan without getting her involved, then she would have been able to forgive/accept him. Before her memories came back, she'd already come to terms with falling in love with the man who killed her grandfather and conquered her maternal tribe. But it was the memories of her involvement in LCY/GJ's plans that doomed their relationship and made her go all crazy. She can not and will not accept falling TWICE for the man who got her to indirectly kill her family members. In her mind, even if it was unintentional, she had a hand in the annihilation of her tribe and it was all because of her feelings for LCY. She ultimately couldn't live with that fact. And I can't say I blame her. The moment she regained her memories, it was game over for our couple.
Sigh...I love both characters and understood their plight because given the historical time period and context, neither of them is morally right or wrong: They're simply on different sides. The only reason people hate on LCY is because of how lovable XF and her maternal clan were and it crushed everyone to see their beloved characters destroyed. I also got very attached and almost couldn't watch their demise because it was so painful. But I also recognize that all's fair in love and war and it was Danchi's own fault for trusting an outsider like LCY. They would have done the same thing to LCY's country if given the opportunity. In war, both sides will stop at nothing to one up the other and will be on the lookout for any openings. LCY's side simply saw one first and took it. It was just too bad that XF had to be caught in the middle and LYC, their enemy from the other side, hopelessly fell for the pawn in his plans. My heart weeps...
Overall, circumstances made it impossible for our lovers to be together and yet, I couldn't help but root for them anyway because of my understanding and love for both characters and their incredible chemistry . The only way they could have been together is if LCY regained his memories first and took measures to ensure XF's memories stayed locked up forever. He'd probably keep feeding her water from the river of forgetfulness. Ultimately, that would be the better fate for our XF as she'd be with the man she loves without all the pain/guilt.

When almost every sad love song of Chinese Drama relates back to Mo Dao Zu Shi... xD I realised that almost all Ancient Chinese Drama will have a tragic ending including the anime Mo Dao Zu Shi(I mean even though they have good ending, but thing of the past Wei Ying & ShiJIe & Feng Mian with Mdm Yu & also all the other characters like JiXuan, Wen Qing, Ah Qing, Xing Chen & so on... T^T)

best chinese drama i've ever watched. the main problem is the collective memory of the massacre of the danchi kingdom. li chengyin uses his wife to pursue his ambitions, but also destroys his own life. chengyin only pursues xiaofeng's body and throne, but ignores xiaofeng's feelings and experiences. chengyin character is the male lead that I first hated. I really hate the characters of gu xiaowu and li chengyin, but on the other hand this character is also very sad.

The untamed before resurrection was a complete tragedy jiang couples died, wen clan people died, wen qing died , shijie died ,jin jixuan died , whole world hated wei ying .At last he also died at the hand of his own shidi and lan zhan his pain for me was indiscribable he watched his beloved die in front of him unable to do anything he waited day and night playing inquiry in hope that wei ying will answer everyday for 16 years he would have suffocated and cried when he played the last stanza of his inquiry i can't even imagine the amount of regret he musy have felt for not being by wei ying's side during 2nd nevernight battle. Glad the ending was happy
