- Do you dream of heavier euros with many many interconnected parts? Unconscious Mind from Fantasia Games asks you to lie down, and let those thoughts wash over you. We prepared mentally and emotionally to try and run you through what the game is doing, and explain just how this mixture of theme, design, and mechanisms comes together on the table.

My hype for this one is super high. Cant really remember anticipating a KS as much as this in recent years. All in as soon as it goes live. Thanx for the coverage guys !
Gosh, it looks gorgeous! And the theme draws me in - so unusual! I look forward to the Kickstarter. Thank you for the video!
The more I learn about Unconscious Mind the more excited I get. I've been playing and enjoying all the Lacerda games lately and this game seems incredible in theme, mechanisms and art 🔥
Definitely would love to see some gameplay. The more I see this game reviewed the more I want it.
After Endless Winter, seems like JP and Fantasia Games are one to look out for. I backed this all in on faith and the more I hear the more excited I get.
MvM previews are very genuine.
Endless Winter was my most Anticipated Kickstarter from the moment I backed, and I received it las week and played 5 times. I love it. Fantasia Games is killin it with this one being their follow-up. From Components to topics to themes, gameplay... game mats, and honest to goodness thoughtfulness that went in to planning the box and trays. I am thrilled.
Thanks for watching Jason! Yeah, Fantasia seems to have established a high bar right from the start.
Endless Winter was my most Anticipated Kickstarter from the moment I backed, and I received it last week and binged played it 5 times this past weekend. I love it. Fantasia Games is crushing and with Unconscious Minds being their follow-up! From Components to topics to themes, gameplay... game mats, and honest to goodness thoughtfulness that went in to planning the box and trays. I am thrilled. (Speaking from a credentialed counselor's perspective - the theme is so cool . Ice age and Psychoanalytic history. Psyched.
I, too, am super excited to get my hands on this game. I'm actually glad to see that it is a heavier game and one that works so hard to match up mechanisms to theme.
Thanks for the great coverage! 💡
This is definitely my kind of game, looks amazing. Love heavy games and worker placement, for sure backing this one.
Love the theme, love the gameplay, love the designers and love the artists! Home run 😁
Loved your review and will definitely back this when it comes out!!!
As a psychodynamic therapist...inhad to back this one...
I saw in ThinkerThemer that the designers made a big deal about calling patients “clients” and calling cure “treat”….but i would think patient and cure are more period accurate…aside from that, the game looks interesting
Just because something is period accurate doesn’t always mean it’s not ok to update it to show respect and sensitivity.
@@SmoothGummi And just the fact that they knew enough to recognize that distinction in the modern day professional preference tells me they did serious research in preparing this them and marrying it to the mechanisms of the Euro.... Im blown away.
@@alwaysardent1125 Yeah, my wife is a psychologist and she has been incredibly impressed by how they have used the subject matter. It could’ve easily been something that bothered her enough to make her not interested had they not used it properly. It’s much heavier than she’d normally be interested in, but wants to give it a try.
@@SmoothGummi So when an historical period is being recreated we need to anachronistically insert contemporary (and less accurate) term preferences? I couldn't disagree more.
Thanks, David & Emily. What I really want to know before I potentially back or buy this game is: 1) how richly does the theme (which is unique and creative) come through? Does it soon disappear and just becomes mechanisms, or does it pervade the gameplay? 2) Do all the many things going on make for a better gaming experience, or would less have been more? Thx!
In my opinion, I think the implementation and "feel" of the theme works (and is intact) as much or more than most heavier euros. With that said, the lasting impact of a theme on any game is subjective. I'd say this one is solid though. One of my barometers for judging a game on that front is considering the degree to which I lean into the theme when teaching the game--and I would say I'd lean into it pretty heavily with this one. It'll help players connect the dots with what they're doing.
As for the number of things going on in the game, I think it's in a good spot. Again, this is subjective, but I would say this has not quite as much going on in it as a Lacerda game (for example), plus most everything feels pretty well connected, so not too many disparate elements.
@@meeple Greatly appreciate such a generous and thoughtful response. Please know that. You're right in what you said about a subjective element to my questions. I would say that Obsession, for example, is considered a highly thematic euro. My guess would be that UM is probably not as much as that, but more than most (euros). Maybe near the level of, say, Grand Austria Hotel. Again, thanks so much! I'd thank you by name (and I'm thinking it is Emily) but since I addressed you both I won't chance it! 😄
@@ButOneThingIsNeedful We're like the Borg. WE ARE MVM. The one known as David is replying though. 😁
@@meeple Ah, I stand corrected. Once again, thank you muchly (I know that's not a word) for your responses.
Instant back for me. :)
17:17 -- LOL, love it.
God I hope they release a TTS mod. I really want to try this out. I could see myself backing this
I just wish that the city actions were clearer, or there was a player aid.
I'm sure that when the game ultimately delivers, a player aid might be in the cards. We'll see...
Awesome game. Instant back for me!
Yikes it sure has a lot going on. I was intrigued by this one for the theme and artwork, but the gameplay looks too heavy for me.
Thanks for a great review
Same here, way too heavy for me. Too much going on, watching this video almost gave me a headache!
How would you rate this game on the BGG complexity scale? 4.3?
Yeah right around there for sure.
Thanks for the reply
Quite literally a brain burner.... woah.
It all seems like way too much for my taste. As much as I can appreciate the art, I don't see it having much substance. The dreams look interesting and somewhat fascinating, but you still cure them with tokens you earn. They don't carry any meaning. Also, thematizing trauma and curing grief as a "point" track? How much of these games with new, "original" themes do we need? But I don't like rococo either (and no, I don't mean the game).
