    Uk law changed recently. You cant use accidental suffocation in sex as a defence anymore as there were too many cases of women being murdered and “an accident during sex” being given as an excuse. Not no more!

    Recommended case: Kenneth Bluew. The cop who killed his pregnant mistress (who wasn’t even going to make him a part of the baby’s life since he already had a family) and tried to make it look like a suicide. And his fellow cops who sensed something suspicious and investigated him anyways.
    I’ll never forget the family members who took one look at the printed ‘suicide note’ and said: It was printed. We knew immediately it wasn’t from her and we didn’t even read it. If she had written one, it would have been handwritten with a sparkly pen and each of us would have gotten our own letter.
    Plus, Kenneth’s sister was ridiculously delusional and refused to believe the DNA evidence made him guilty.

      Yes, and thankyou for stating this. Sharon may have been roleplaying, or following a kink, or looking for paying clientele, or enjoying some out-there online chat. No matter which, she deserves no death sentence. Some people enjoy a little choking during sex, and that has been used as an excuse for DV perpetrators. However, the laws in my country (Australia, as of 2019) now reflect that sexual choking cannot be used as defense by anyone who strangles a person to death.

    Reminds me of the "Cannibal Cafe" case years ago where the guy consented to have himself killed and consumed by someone else, and they recorded the whole thing as proof that he was compliant. The guy who did the act is Armin Meiwes, and the guy who he consumed was named Bernd Brandes. This took place in Gernamy (shocker, huh?) back in 2001. He was originally convicted of manslaughter and only given 8.5 years, he was later retried for murder and sentenced to life. The funny thing is that he's now a vegetarian. I guess the whole experience left a bad taste in his mouth.

    oh man..........THIS is why i'm always game to hear your take on a case i've already learned about: you take the time to actually illustrate the person sharon was. it's really easy for us to get lost in her fixation on violence and pain, but before there was "nancy carlsen" making whatever videos men requested, there was an ambitious young girl whose only offered prospect in life was to be as well-behaved as possible and spend her life stagnating. with that reminder, and the knowledge that her parents won't even fkn CLAIM her anymore, i honestly can't blame her for wanting to die. it's so much easier to just look at sharon as some deranged, depraved deviant, rather than an isolated woman who hated being alive and only felt a sense of control in her own life by choosing to endure pain. it's tough to say whether sharon might still be alive if she'd gotten psychological help, because we don't have any way of knowing how receptive she might have been or whether she really even wanted someone to save her. her death instinct ultimately became so much stronger than her survival instinct that i'm not certain she would have even wanted to be saved.
    another mark on the board for the insecure attachment industrial complex, i guess. i hope sharon is finally at peace.

      Such good points and a very insightful comment, thank you.
      In many of these cases where somebody has a "death wish" fantasy that some monster online or through a newspaper decides to fulfil (like in the Armin Meiwes case), the victim is always somebody who has very vulnerable mental health. They are taken advantage of by sadists who think that the consent of a mentally sick person is enough to commit an atrocity. Unfortunately, there are many people in society who do not know the difference between a severely mentally unstable individual "consenting" to something that will hurt them or even kill them, and a well-adjusted adult consenting to something that isn't nearly as harmful.
      Too many people think that if somebody is an addict, they deserve the worst of fates. Why is this? So many addicts are people with mental health issues and rough upbringings. They are to be pitied and helped. Society hates addicts unless those addicts can act, or sing, or paint very well, then suddenly they are national treasures. The hypocrisy is awful.
      In Germany, it is illegal to sign a contract with somebody who is deeply and obviously mentally disturbed and who does not have a representative that has their best interests at heart. The contract would be treated as void, same as if you were to sign a contract with an un-represented minor, or with somebody obviously inebriated or stoned.
      Nevertheless, people do this everyday, scamming those who are mentally or physically disabled, or inebriated, or young. And despite all these laws in place to prevent this kind of thing, society shames the victims first and foremost and lets the scammers get away most of the time. For instance, legally, any kind of sex where one person is sober and the other is very intoxicated is by definition rape. And yet, every time this kind of situation gets brought up in court or even in conversation, almost everybody treats the victim as somebody who was capable of consenting, and the whole thing is thrown out of court and viewed as definitely not-rape, even though it definitely is. What a backwards world this is.

    You brought the best possible moral out of this story. Please please begging yall do not engage in breath play unless BOTH of you are informed in how to do so safely and what to do if something goes wrong.
    One must also consider. The murderer can consent to murdering, and consciously the murdered may have consented to death, but the human body tries to preserve itself any way it can until death regardless of what someone wants. It is autonomous of our wishes. It is hard to know, as we will never be in someone else’s mind in their final moments. We are barely in our own in that moment for ourselves. Death by its very nature I feel is so overwhelming an experience it takes the ability to consent away. Even as someone like Sharon objectively, if she was in fact a suicidal masochist, I am not capable of consenting to be murdered because I am not in my right mind. It seems like a paradox. A really sad one.

    This reminds me of a personal experience. I knew a woman that liked being choked during sex. The issue was she wanted the choking to go all the way. No pretending, no stopping when she passed out... She believed knowing she's going to die would possibly give her the best O she'd ever have. It was very hard to wrap my mind around the fact that it wasn't just fantasy for her. She completely cut me off when I was "too much of a bitch" (her words) to give her what she desires. I always wanted to believe it was just a fantasy and she'd "tap" out when the choking went too far. This was well over 10yrs ago and I havent heard from her since she cut me off... Watching this now, there's a huge knot in my stomach. And I feel immense dread. These death fantasies are actual fetishes that people want to be carried out. This one made me feel sick.

    The survival instinct is the most basic, central instinct in the human psyche, in many ways it drives all other instincts. Anyone who expresses a wish to die is not mentally sound and needs help. She was not terminally ill and in constant pain, she was not a 90 year old just “ready to go”. She was a woman who needed help and he exploited her.

    My thoughts:
    I think Robert should have been prosecuted even if he wasn't a predator. He said he killed Sharon by "accident", meaning her consent had not been given prior to her death. He then buried the body in the backyard, instead of calling the police. This showcases to me again, that he knew some wrong doing had happened, and he was trying to escape some form of taking responsibility for her death. To me it would have been at thr very least a manslaughter charge , given his narrative of it being an accidental death, and the fact we have evidence of her more extreme sexual fantasies and correspondences with Robert.

    So I have mental illness and autism, and I've been taken advantage of by people because of my self hatred in the past. Consensual you know, but it wasn't right. When someone is sick like that they can't advocate for themselves fully, they need a hospital with people who care. They don't need people to hurt them just because they don't care enough about themself to stop it, or hate themself enough to consent to it. That's just my thought. That's taking advantage of someone who doesn't fully have a grasp on reality and that's wrong, they're vulnerable and need to be handled with care.

    • @alexbush714
      @alexbush714 29 дней назад +16

      Kinksters will argue that it was perfectly within the person that abused you's right to abuse you, and that they were just "having fun".
      Kink is often just somebody abusing someone in a vulnerable mental position, or getting off on somebodies past abuse history and calling it "therapeutic" to relive sexual assault scenarios.
      It's horrible and it's psychological sexual abuse (as well as physical), and if you try to call it out you're immediately labeled a "kinkshamer" and a "prude" by these abusers and their mentally ill codependant partners.

    • @e444x
      @e444x 29 дней назад +7

      @@alexbush714 yeah due to my past I was into some rough stuff, I consented cause I was reliving a bunch of trauma and it felt right to my traumatized brain. And if I ever tried to say no or anything, they wouldn't really listen and would get upset. I know that's not what a respectful dominant person would do so I understand when kinksters say that's not what normally happens, but it happens a lot more than I think anyone really realizes. When they tried to hurt me outside of the bedroom and I tried to defend myself they'd be frustrated or confused, and tell me that I liked it so I shouldn't fight back. that's when I realized I needed to step back from the kink community for a pretty long time. I engage in lighter activities now with someone who is very very kind and gentle with me. She doesn't want to hurt me at all and established a more dominant position in the relationship only after a few years of knowing her, when I was truly comfortable with her presence and when she knew and had developed compassion for my past and the trauma I had suffered, and I knew and trusted her to handle me with care.
      Even if I give her permission for certain things she won't do it because she is gentle and really cares about me and my mental state. It's a lot different than anything I've experienced in the past and I think this is what an appropriate kinky relationship should be like. She is very very very conscious and gentle and won't do anything to hurt me even if I told her she could in the past. I actually feel really safe with her. that's when I realized that I needed to find people that know they could take advantage of me, but instead choose not to because they genuinely care about me
      Kink is really weird to establish boundaries on because the whole thing about it, is sexual deviancy. Different people have different extremes, and I found people whose extremes seemed to revolve around hurting me especially when I revoked consent

    the thing with practicing bdsm/kink is the importance of RACK and SSC (risk aware consensual kink and safe sane consensual). it can be argued that wanting to die is a case of insanity in the literal sense, so it no longer falls under the typical hounds of consent. as any active members of the bdsm community know, it is incredibly vital for personal and community safety to be incredibly vigilant about practicing safe kink and being rigorous about consent. i find it hard to believe that any active respected member of the community would look at this case and declare it safe, sane, or consensual, or risk-aware. there’s a clear line between wanting to cause/experience pain or death during sex or other contained scenes and actually violating someone’s boundaries and straight up killing them. it’s called a conscience, and having morals. kink does not a killer make

Always love your vids, this one was well worth the wait!

    In sane circles, having a fantasy centered around dying is called suicidal ideation... Even if she did consent, in the strictest definition, it was still murder. I briefly heard about this woman from my ex-who was VERY into some of the extreme kinks listed, and even desperately wanted to get ME into them despite being asexual- but I never knew the entire story. Gave me bad vibes then, and it looks like I was right. I feel for her- I've attempted to off myself 7 separate times in my life, and at one point things DID cross over with kink fantasy. I had some very, very kind online friends in the kink circles I was in who convinced me to get HELP, like normal, sane people. Safe, Sane, Consentual. Kink should be enriching, not a gateway to true inhuman depravity and suicidality. This sucks.

    Oh, boy. I clicked so fast! This case has interested and haunted me for years. The movie based on it, "Downloading Nancy" albeit bleak and insular, is one I keep coming back to, as well. Difficult to watch but worth it, in my very humble opinion.
    As for the question of murder: I think we will never truly know because we don’t know definitively about her final moments. If she changed her mind, if she struggled against that rope, if he just went ahead with the act regardless of her desires. It's a complex event. I think she clearly participated in her demise, but to what extent? Knowing that Glass had other dark motivations of a criminal nature just muddies the waters here. Thank you for this piece - thought-provoking without sensationalism.

    Your videos always take very good care of the victims and address nuance with delicacy and empathy, and I've always appreciated it. But this one goes above and beyond; I cannot express how warming it was to hear how gently you handled the heavy BDSM components of this while making sure to draw the line between what the community finds acceptable and what is outside the limits; so often situations like these tend to get painted in broad strokes that taint the image of the community, and not only did you go out of your way to not do that, you even explicitly stated that difference, and also advocated for safe play research - I don't think I've ever heard of any true crime researcher doing that and it's all so true - so much (safe) practice, prep and research goes into those sorts of scenes to keep them safe (when done correctly) and I've just never heard that acknowledged so well before - so, thank you. Thank you for handling this victim with the grace she deserves and for going above and beyond with your care for the community.
    As for murder or not - this one is really hard for me. While on one hand, I'd want to argue it's never okay to help someone die, you should always try and help them even if they themselves want it - but then that gets into some medically-assisted suicide for terminally-ill folks that I wouldn't necessarily put into that same category. I think, with some nuance, in this case, no, it's not okay - in part because we can't confirm she was consenting through it all the way, but also if she really was, she should have gotten help instead. But thank you again for all your care and compassion.

    Should cover the “Cash for Kids” scandal. It happened in the area where I grew up and it was absolutely disgusting. People would brush it off and just say “that’s just how things are done around here” which was them acknowledging and accepting how corrupt things are in the area. I was actually a victim of the corruption when I was a teenager in different situation where over 200 kids were subpoenaed so they could try to label as many of us as drug dealers as they could so the District Attorney would get re elected. It ended up being 50 of us arrested and only two were actually dealers. That wasn’t nearly as bad as Cash for Kids but still an example of the kinds of things that would happen. The assistant DA, Kathleen Kane who was assigned to my situation would go on to be convicted of selling off information when she became Attorney General of Pennsylvania. Cash for Kids had a documentary made about it but it’s still something worth exploring in this context. Just a suggestion…

While she may not have made any giantess movies, I'd like to know the origin of the csam Robert had and if any was made or distributed by Sharon who seemed willing to do literallyanything for money.
