Ghazipur landfill in New Delhi is India's highest rubbish mountain, spreading over an area larger than 40 football pitches. It is predicted to grow taller than the Taj Mahal by 2020. Along with the smell, smoke and pollution from this mountain of trash are said to be the ‘cause of all diseases’ in the surrounding neighbourhoods.

That moment when you realize that football field has become standard of measure for everything
satria amiluhur cause professional football field has a fixed size. Plus it’s kinda easier for one to imagine the size.
@@ok-sp9xf no. Not all ppl familiar with football field. And about football, is it football or American football?
Use metric system pls
@@DBT1007 American football isn't real football. So I the safest assumption is the more globally popular game.
Global football of course. Only in the USA do they call what we call rugby, as football. And yeah, not all know the PRECISE size of a football field. They do however can imagine how big the size of a football field is, which is mind you, the most commonly played sports in the world.
But sure if you wish to know the rough estimation of the size of garbage that exist in New Delhi, it’s 321,200 sq metres. You expect people to imagine how big that size is? How about, Idk, associating the size with a global consensus of something that is wide or like Idk, the SIZE OF A FOOTBALL PITCH?? Just a thought (eherm).

Checka Minute you think 7 billion people will have the effort to do that?
I dont think so.
@@cappuchinolatte2356 It's not "hard to fix" , it's just expensive. I remember in the late 80s, our milk bottles were of glass. we had to return empty Bootle while buying new one. Then they replaced it will plastic pouches. Ditto for cold beverages. PET bottles became cheaper than returning glass bottles. Wheat? We used to buy it lose and take it to the mill ourselves in an aluminum container. Now we get it milled inn a large thick plastic bag. The small local mills ran out of business.
Maybe the one and only problem is human mentality, even governments come up with excellent solutions, but humans, still thinking that "somebody" will take care of this problem and keep throwing their garbage elsewhere and breaking the law, all the solutions above is useless.

there is actually a way to cover used landfills with soil and plants. the issue is that:
- before, you need to make drainages to let out methane out so it will neither combust nor explode
- before applying soil you need to apply layer of clay or other isolating material
- below the fille, there should be also clay isolation and also there should be water drainage system to take these sewers from garbage to dedicated treatment plant
