- A few days ago I did a video of 7 assorted Lowmac wagons on the clubs test track. In that case it was simply going around a large oval circuit where one should have no derailing problems. Dapol kit built Lowmacs however have a reputation of poor running, something I can't identify with.
They do need care in building, must have free running wheels, couplers must
be well aligned and not subject the wagon to side forces in curves.
Here was my test today, a light Dapol Lowmac weighing 12.4 grams is taking the stress of pushing 5 heavily loaded wagons, with a combined weight of 280 grams back into a different siding. Reversing will always show any potential problems. Would you believe that I had to do 3 video 'takes' due to a heavy wagon derailing on 2 attempts !! The Lowmac - NO problem !!
The 'difficult' hopper wagon sorted as well !!
My use of Peco Set-Track points on this layout was in hindsight a mistake due to rough riding over the common crossing void. At speed that will cause problems, but it's a yard, crawling along also looks so much better..
