+veebeeTV Can you please do a tutorial on ripping anime blu rays. I've tried this stuff in the past but I'm a noob at it. 1. I want them to have both English and Japanese audio 2. get them to be ripped so that individual episodes show up and not just one big file. 3. have it show up exactly like it would when i load it into my blu ray player. (Basically menu in tact so I can navigate through instead of just selecting different files and not knowing what I've loaded. thx in advance.
as a test/demonstration for a company I worked for, I took a 95GB cinema movie file and compressed it to h.265 down to 220MB while still retaining a very good viewing experience for mobile. (the sound pretty much took up 1/4.th of the final file size. but compressing that much pretty much required it to use the placebo quality setting and took over 24hours on an i7 3770 (back then) basically we sort of imagined that we might make an app where you could stream Cinema movies to a device using 3G network and not destroy the data plan. or just really quickly load up a whole trailer. I mean you'd only need a 0,5KB/s connection to stream HD quality
Why was the audio taking 1/4th of the stream? with Opus audio at a bitrate of 64kbits you could have acceptable audio, when were talking about mobile. What kind of resolution and bitrate were you working with at the video level?
bitrates for video was 350 or 450Kbps or something along those lines, and I think I might kept the audio at 192 or 160 or maybe 128 I wouldn't really dare to go lower, but it would depend on the use case I suppose
You should not go below 96 kbit/s (stereo) (for anything with music), even when using Opus or a good AAC encoder. I clearly begin to hear compression artefacts for most sources. Especially for movies where you have a lot of quiet scenes you need a higher bitrate than for highly compressed (in the meaning of dynamic range compression) modern pop music.
Much more helpful than Adobe Premier Pro Tech support. They literally said they couldn't help me on how to get my videos to stop freezing up because of large file sizes even though they are the ones that recommended Handbrake!
If ur on mac and dont see advanced settings scroll to handbrake on tools and click preferences then go to advanced and click on show advanced options panel. Hope I help a few mac users.
Thank you for this. This brought my file from 2GB to 110 mbs and then I took it into Premiere and uploaded to RUclips. No loss in quality at all. Very good tutorial
Especially when you record with OBS (Open Broadcaster Software), Fraps, etc., all of which are infamous for having redundant file sizes, these HandBrake settings work impressively well. I had a 6-gigabyte timelapse recorded using OBS that, after being inserted into HandBrake, reduced the file size to 1.2 megabytes. I'd say that's even below the advertised 90% reduced size. Great video, keep it up!
This setup lowered the size of a video I recorded from 7.5 gigs to around 1.5. Not quite 90%, but the file size decreased by a good amount and still has really good video quality, so I'm not complaining 1 bit!
Everyone complaining about this making files bigger probably doesn't realize that the best settings to use, and if its even worth compressing a video depends on the source. I personally have an older I5, so when I record things I use capture settings that make huge file sizes, but don't put as much load on my pc when I'm recording. I compress after the fact, which is less than optimal because compressing an already compressed video always destroys quality more than compressing more heavily in the first place for the same file size, but I couldn't record at a decent framerate otherwise. If you use settings like this to compress video recorded with better recording settings, a video you downloaded off the internet and was therefore already compressed, or a video shot with a camera, you are not going to benefit from using these settings.
found it! NEED to open a source first, click on "Video" tab (all 6 tabs are grayed out before source is selected) then under "optimise video" (bold type), check the "use the advanced tab instead" "Advanced" tab displays immediately.
Man, you are not "weird that way", you just have your opinion, your point of view, you have character. Not just another default programed "robot" in this world. Cheers and thank you for this video. Is there a way to save this setup for constant using?
Thanks. Handbrake is a good multi-OS transcoding tool to get started with. It will regularly deliver you good quality videos once you figure out your preferred settings. Don’t forget the command line version which is great for encoding a directory of videos via a Linux bash shellscript. Ultimately though if you are serious about your encoding you will probably end up using ffmpeg. Using ffmpeg is harder but also more rewarding in the long run.
Awesome video and another big help after watching the DxTory video which was also a HUGE help. I do have one question though, if you're going to be editing the video, shouldn't you set the frame rate to constant frame rate instead of variable because of the audio desyncing?
Thanks for the tutorial. I have been wanting to reduce my video size without losing quality. The setup I use, still loses quality but a small amount. I want to lose no quality at all. I only wanted to lose no quality at all because the quality on my video is already horrible therefore losing more quality would be dreadful. But thanks to you, I can fix that. Much luv, Aero.
Well done, good presentation. Clear, concise and intuitive. For what it's worth, you got my thumbs up. I do have a question, what version are you using. my newly downloaded version as of today Aug 6th does not have an advanced tab, would you happen to know why or has anyone else asked.
Can someone help me out when i use handbrake on my videos my friends get really quiet all of a sudden in the regular video they are fine but once i use handbrake there really quiet does anyone know why?
This could happen if you have a video in color space BT.601 and Handbrake decodes it as if it was in color space BT.709. Always try to record everything in color space BT.709 to avoid any compatibility issues (BT.709 also has better visual quality).
Good video. You should do one for the newest version of Handbrake (currently 1.0.2), as the interface has changed under the Video tab, and the Advanced tab seems to be really gone this time.
For the advanced tab for recent downloads: 1. Go to Tools then preferences a. Under the first tab (General) select in user interface ALLOW USE OF "ADV... X264 options... b. Go back to main window 2. Under Video tab, at the (Optimize Video) a new boxed appeared USE ADVANCED TAB instead click on it NOW YOU HAVE YOUR ADVANCED tool you are welcome!
The best improvement now on youtube is either you have popular channel so you get instant VP9 codec instead shitty AVC1. There was a trick how to force yt to do vp9 but it isn't working anymore so only way to do is to upload in 2k or 4k to get vp9. This program is good cuz you can render your files in 2k, even if its 1080p video and compress it with handbrake and then upload on youtube. You will get vp9 codec after some time.
Cheers for the video, really helpful. Might be a stupid question but if I am not uploading the videos to the web, should I have web optimised ticked or not for higher quality?
Thank you so much for this awesome video. Would all this be the same for 4K videos that I recorded and want to upload in 4K, Only difference being the picture size?
Now that the advanced tab is gone, what should we do instead? Do you have a command line or something that can be optimized without the GUI guidance? Or an updated video for this?
hey quick question man :) my video recorder records at 30mbps what should i render at for 1080p 60fps? I dont care about render time im focused on quality
I've compared the two - Camtasia Studio and Handbrake, camtasia is a bit better with the compression and quality. But its just about 5% difference when it comes to file size comparison. But of course, Handbrake is better since its free :D
Thanks so so much.. Really appreciate the video. I have a really slow internet. I'm constantly uploading 300-400mb files video. It took about 9-12 hours to complete. Yeah, I know. After using handbrake with your setting, my files got shrunk to 20-25mb. I was like WOW! Now I can upload my file 20 times faster than before.. Felt like an idiot uploading all those files before.. LOL.
Well I am confused. I followed all your instructions and my video size went from 699 MB to 842 MB! So it definitely resized but not the way I wanted it to. I had all my settings just as shown on this video. No idea what went wrong..
*Handbrake on Mac* has an issue of subtitle tracks sections which does not specifically show each language correctly in order to select for *Burned In* when doing with *MKV movies.* I see all available subtitle tracks *appear only* in Chinese or Japanese or Korean even the English subtitle SRT & English chapter SRT. I can't read non-English in this matter. (To import an external SRT into Handbrake to Burned In with the video works fine with SRT Encoding = UTF-8)
hi veebeeTV, have an urgent question - what is the purpose of selecting Optimized for Web if you are only uploading vids to RUclips. Doesn't RUclips already optimize the upload for the web? Just trying to make sure that selecting this isn't "double" compressing since RUclips is going to do it?
1:43 - I just don't get it. Framerate (FPS): Same as source. If we're choosing "Same as source", then two lower settings like "Constant Framerate" and "Variable Framerate" should not be available, because if source has constant framerate and we choose "Variable Framerate"? Then it would not be the same, as source! This is a contradiction. P.S. You absolutely shouldn't do, what you're doing on 1:22. Because after finishing encoding process it will put file automatically in the right container, wich you choose in Container: MP4 field. So, you absolutely don't need to edit container manually in the Destination field.
It depends on while file you're working with. He had PCM encoded audio in his file which is cheating. Most of the time you will have a hard time beating 40 percent reduction.
hello thank you very much for sharing this tutorial though I know very well your language could understand very well, I wanted to ask you a question after having performed the file compression this you may be back to do? it is advisable or not there indeed many thanks if you can answer
Hey nice video, but i have a question. My video file size went down from 3.19GB to 1.15 GB which is great. The question is once I uploaded to RUclips the video quality was not the same it looks blurry and not as clear as the original video. Please help Thank you
Two quick questions: - You include 60fps in the title of this video, I wonder why. If I have a 29.97 fps video, will it do any good if I set it to 60fps...? Another thing I would like to know is if it's possible to encode multiple files in Handbrake? - I have all seosons of Everybody Loves Raymond, Friends and East Bound & Down, they're all in HD quality, but have giant file sizes... So I hope there's another way to re-encode em' all instead one by one?
These setting are a horrible for anything other than gameplay footage. The settings you will want to use will depend on the source. I assume they are from a Blu-ray judging by the resolution, so I would Google "Handbrake settings for Blu-ray". Then mess around with them to find a balance of quality, file size, and encoding time that you would be happy with. Handbrake has an awesome queuing system btw, you can import a ton of videos at once, set the settings you want for each individual video, or apply the same settings to all of them, preview them to see what they will look like compressed, and get an eta on the time to compress. So you can set all your videos to go, click start, go to bed, and check on the progress in the morning if you have to compress a ton of footage. Just remember to turn off sleep mode, and I would recomend disconnecting from the internet just in case Windows decided to update itself.
Hey great video. Just need one clarification. Towards the end you said "colon threads=3" but on screen captions you showed a semi colon. Can you clear that up for me? Keep up the good work!
The title "90% reduced size" is very misleading , as I get the result just now only 50% reduced. I've encoded videos of 300-500mb to 70-90mb 720p with megui , it worked fine. I thought handbrake was better.
Do these settings work if you are ripping straight from a DVD? I guess I will have to try and see. I'm digitizing my movie collection since my kids are scratching up most of my DVDs. But they are coming out around 1 Gb per movie, so looking to shrink them down for future viewing on tablets or devices OR TV, so I don't want to lose the quality.
This video has too small letters and numbers and I can't see clearly. Tha main content window is too small, you show unimportant things like your computer's desktop but the main window is too small.
You have to watch it in 1080p, then everything looks clear on my display. If your display can't show Full-HD, then get a new monitor/laptop, it is worth it.
Hi, welcome to youtube! Is this your first time on the net? Take our starter course here : www.youtube-for-retards.com It will show you how to search for videos... leave comments, change the settigs on youtube and finally how to block youtube and/or unisntall its app. A shortcut to our tutorials are added to every PC and can be accessed by pressing Alt + F4, but we here at RUclips for Retards INC feel that even you will mess that up..
Is it necessary to compress my files if I have got all the time in the world? The size of some of my files are 40 GB. I wait for 6 hours and a file uploaded to RUclips. Is it better to compress those files?
How Big is the Map? I mean it would be more useful, I don't know what are your ways of uploading and I don't wanna make fun of you, but it's kinda weird doing that, it's OK for me if it's OK for you :)
I'm aiming to get the smallest file size for my iPad (so I can carry multiple around with me due to its small storage capacity). Currently, I have films at around 700mb each --- can I get them down to around 100-200-300 each? Cheers.
what version of handbrake are you using in this video? would help to know.. cause you cant access the 'advanced tab' when you click 'h265' in the video panel, it just disappears as soon as you click h265..
I am wondering how fast it compresses compared to Adobe Premier Pro. Thats what I am using now as we speak, compressing a 49 GB file to 2772 GB in about 40 minutes. Is there something in handbrake that makes the compression better than Adobe's with a better looking video at the end ? If so, I am willing to give it a shot!
I assume its because this tutorial is really old, but I did exactly what you did, and it took ages to convert a 3m video, and the file turned out 100MB bigger.
@RUSHMID .... You should do a test run on a smaller video file just to get the "settings" right first before starting on the "real" project. And unfortunately, I haven't found a proper setting yet. All my MP4 video files aren't really getting compressed much. Changing the CF value looks like it helps the most.
@Sprenner .... Yesterday I stumbled onto the program MeGUI (had to watch some youtube tutorial). I did a test run on one Blu Ray (22 minute) file that was about 160mb down to 123mb. In the bigger scheme of things, it doesn't seem like much. But the kicker is that when I tried to reencode the 160mb file trying to get it smaller using Handbrake or Vidcoder (the GUI form of handbrake) down to around 125mb, it actually looked worst than the one encoded by MeGUI. MeGUI www.videohelp.com/software/MeGUI Virustotal scanner online free www.virustotal.com/ I know this detects something. It was actually why I never considered installing the MeGUI program several months ago. I decided what the heck, let me unzip the file, but scan the actual MeGUI application in the zipped folder with virustotal. Good thing the actual MeGUI application turned up clean. I actually might make the switch to MeGUI once I understand how to use it better because the results I got from it were far superior to Handbrake/Vidcoder at a smaller file size. One other tidbit: The best way to truly test out the QUALITY of the compression of the encoder is to use a 1080p or 720p high definition file (it could be a shorter 5 minute segment) because after compression, you can see if your compressed file still has 1080p/720p quality. Once you figured out the proper setting, then you can start encoding some other files with the same settings.
@Sprenner ... also before you commit to MeGUI (if you still to make the switch), give Staxrip a try as well. I read someone online someone had even better results with staxrip than MeGUI, I gave staxrip a try and it definitely looks great (lower file size maintaining quality). But right now, I'm still testing out MeGUI and Staxrip, and have definitely abandoned handbrake. StaxRip www.videohelp.com/software/StaxRip

+veebeeTV the 500 sub
I actually had to go into preferences and enable the advanced tab from there. For some reason my version does not have a tools tab.
Its 2020 and I keep coming back and watching this video to remind me of the BEST settings for Handbrake for me.
Has to be said that Variable Framerate is HORRIBLE to edit with.
These settings are if you want to store videos, not edit them.

Shoutout to the Logos Bible Software down in the bottom left. I SEE YOU!!! :D
Used these settings to get a 32 GB video down to around 360 MB! Thanks so much for this; this was a lifesaver.
If ur on mac and dont see advanced settings scroll to handbrake on tools and click preferences then go to advanced and click on show advanced options panel. Hope I help a few mac users.
my uploads take 5 hours for 3 min now it takes 28 min for 14 min! THX MAN YOU HELPED ME A LOT!!

my 4k video looks like absolute dogshit after using these settings...
I don't use Handbrake that much. But when I do, I always refer back to your video.
Thanks mate! Had issues uploading my videos until I watched this. You gained a sub :)
found it! NEED to open a source first,
click on "Video" tab (all 6 tabs are grayed out before source is selected)
then under "optimise video" (bold type), check the "use the advanced tab instead"
"Advanced" tab displays immediately.
Thank you Man the Quallity of my Videos is now brilliant! Thanks a lot :)
Please update this for 2018/2019 ? It changed a lot since then, thank you dude.
Man, you are not "weird that way", you just have your opinion, your point of view, you have character. Not just another default programed "robot" in this world. Cheers and thank you for this video. Is there a way to save this setup for constant using?
You helped me quite a lot, and I will try to use your desired format for my uploads.
Your desktop looks so cluttered....
Agreed. This man NEEDS to organize his desktop
i see this guy play so many games lol
this kind of desktops mean the person would rather waste his time on improtant things.. LOL
Looks organized
it is organized he just has too many apps
Dude you are a beast my video took 18 hours (literally because it was 26 hours long) and reduced it to 3 hourd
Thanks. Handbrake is a good multi-OS transcoding tool to get started with. It will regularly deliver you good quality videos once you figure out your preferred settings. I see a fellow Dirty Bomb player I give a like.
Well done, good presentation. Clear, concise and intuitive. For what it's worth, you got my thumbs up.
I do have a question, what version are you using. my newly downloaded version as of today Aug 6th does not have an advanced tab, would you happen to know why or has anyone else asked.
Just noticed the awesome Edinburgh desktop background!
Would be fantastic if you put Handbrake as a priority and show us that full screen and your desktop in the background. Thanks for the tutorial.
Can someone help me out when i use handbrake on my videos my friends get really quiet all of a sudden in the regular video they are fine but once i use handbrake there really quiet does anyone know why?
When I reduce the video size with handbrake, it normally desaturates the colour a lot?
Any help?
I've noticed the same thing, it's best to just restore it in a video editing program. I use Vegas personally. Hope this helps even though it's late.
if something decreases the size that much, it has to decrease the quality too.smh
@Tvrdy Livaja This doesn't seem to have anything to do with compression artefacts.
This could happen if you have a video in color space BT.601 and Handbrake decodes it as if it was in color space BT.709. Always try to record everything in color space BT.709 to avoid any compatibility issues (BT.709 also has better visual quality).
GreeveHD basically if your vid is at 32bit per pixel, this would reduce it to 8-16 reducing colour accuracy by a lot
This shit made my file even bigger somehow
Thank you for your video, it got me straight into this program and converting my mkv to mp4 without much of a problem. Thumbs up and a big thank you.
I would like to know what open broadcast settings you are using. Your video is incredibly clear. Mine are fuzzy after uploading
Good video. You should do one for the newest version of Handbrake (currently 1.0.2), as the interface has changed under the Video tab, and the Advanced tab seems to be really gone this time.
Very good. I recommend this. One of the best open source tools.
Excellent Tutorial. Exactly what I was looking for. My thanks!
Thanks. You just got my sub!!! I need this beacuse Sony Vegas would not let me use my Quick sync OBS file.
For the advanced tab for recent downloads:
1. Go to Tools then preferences
a. Under the first tab (General) select in user interface ALLOW USE OF "ADV... X264 options...
b. Go back to main window

Cheers for the video, really helpful. Might be a stupid question but if I am not uploading the videos to the web, should I have web optimised ticked or not for higher quality?
Good video dude! Usefull as i had to figure out how to reduce the size, thank you!
i know this is old, but i want you to know your setting saved my video.. I used a new camera and thought i was done..Thank you so much
2:46 is unnecessarily cumbersome.
Just click Add Track > Add All Remaining Tracks and you're done.
Worked for me. You saved my butt, Thanks!
That desktop background looks like Edinburgh, looking south from somewhere above Waverley Train Station.
*takes hat off*
I see Hawken. Never forget.
I followed exactly, put in a 858 mb movie and 4 and half hours later got a 1.4 GB movie, so yeah won't waste time with this.
Thank you so much for this awesome video. Would all this be the same for 4K videos that I recorded and want to upload in 4K, Only difference being the picture size?
Hey, I set same settings and my original file was 4.04GB (shadowplay max bitrate 130MB/s 60fps in game res 2560x1080) and converted 3.75GB.
Now that the advanced tab is gone, what should we do instead? Do you have a command line or something that can be optimized without the GUI guidance? Or an updated video for this?
very nice explained and thanks for captions.
Which screen recording software are you using? It looks clean & sharp
im using OBS Studio to record 50mbps bitrate
hey quick question man :) my video recorder records at 30mbps what should i render at for 1080p 60fps?

no advance tab in my handbrake
Hey Soniya Click Tools, go to Options and check the box that says "Show Advanced Encoder Options Tab"
Glory to you! What a timely tip
No worries Anatolii
click Tools, go to Options and check the box that says "Show Advanced Encoder Options Tab
i don't have an options box under tools wtf
Awesome man! Very useful tips
Well I am confused. I followed all your instructions and my video size went from 699 MB to 842 MB! So it definitely resized but not the way I wanted it to. I had all my settings just as shown on this video. No idea what went wrong..
I dont get it why i have no advanced settings. I downloaded it as you said..
Didnt work for me, still no tab
In video option.....click mark the option saying optimise video: use advanced settings
If its a giant file size just choose loosless and it should reduce it if its uncompressed

Advanced tab has moved, you should consider adding an annotation in :)
hi veebeeTV, have an urgent question - what is the purpose of selecting Optimized for Web if you are only uploading vids to RUclips. Doesn't RUclips already optimize the upload for the web? Just trying to make sure that selecting this isn't "double" compressing since RUclips is going to do it?
2gb to 400mb not bad! :D Same quality!
Thanks for making this video man! It helped me out a lot! :)
So, you absolutely don't need to edit container manually in the Destination field.
so whats the key setting here so you can reduce by 90%? i try, from 4GB just reduced to 2,5GB
It depends on while file you're working with. He had PCM encoded audio in his file which is cheating. Most of the time you will have a hard time beating 40 percent reduction.
i can reduce more than 50% but video qulity decrease so much
suggest use his version 0.10.5.0
hello thank you very much for sharing this tutorial though I know very well your language could understand very well, I wanted to ask you a question after having performed the file compression this you may be back to do? it is advisable or not there indeed many thanks if you can answer
Hey nice video, but i have a question. My video file size went down from 3.19GB to 1.15 GB which is great. The question is once I uploaded to RUclips the video quality was not the same it looks blurry and not as clear as the original video. Please help Thank you
currently i'm getting this string so should i add [:threads=3] in it ?
ref=4:threads=3:weightp=1:rc-lookahead=10:subq=2:mixed-refs=0:trellis=0
Amazing video man, just subed, keep it up!
Two quick questions:
- You include 60fps in the title of this video, I wonder why.
Thank you for sharing this video.....gonna give it a go.. cheers
this has been a major help but my handbrake doesn't have the advanced settings tab like yours 🤔🤔
+Jaymo go to top of Handbrake, click Tools, go to Options and check the box that says "Show Advanced Encoder Options Tab"
+veebeeTV you're a saviour! thanks man! Haha I'm still new to this stuff 😂
Hey great video. Just need one clarification. Towards the end you said "colon threads=3" but on screen captions you showed a semi colon. Can you clear that up for me? Keep up the good work!
+ReemFit 360 Hey sorry about that. its a colon : , thanks for watching!
+veebeeTV No worries! Thanks.
SUPER HELPFUL!!! Thank you!
The title "90% reduced size" is very misleading , as I get the result just now only 50% reduced. I've encoded videos of 300-500mb to 70-90mb 720p with megui , it worked fine. I thought handbrake was better.
Hi there, I followed your instructions step by step but still didn't have a great result. Redeuction from 290 to 220MB...
Do these settings work if you are ripping straight from a DVD? I guess I will have to try and see. I'm digitizing my movie collection since my kids are scratching up most of my DVDs. But they are coming out around 1 Gb per movie, so looking to shrink them down for future viewing on tablets or devices OR TV, so I don't want to lose the quality.
i've viewed some comment said it was because the video has already been compressed
Thank you so much now my videos will look better and i will have a better sound :)
Thanks alot :) worked like a peach!
A shortcut to our tutorials are added to every PC and can be accessed by pressing Alt + F4, but we here at RUclips for Retards INC feel that even you will mess that up..
i followed exactly the same settings in MAC. so 280 MB file converted into 228 MB. it's not satisfying. any suggestion ?
Is it necessary to compress my files if I have got all the time in the world? The size of some of my files are 40 GB. I wait for 6 hours and a file uploaded to RUclips. Is it better to compress those files?
Well, wasting time is never good. I bet you can compress that 40GB file into a 5-6GB one, it would take like 1 hour to upload at maximum. ;)
NoHaxJustHusky While RUclips is uploading for all these hours I am doing other things. The viewers can wait.
How Big is the Map? I mean it would be more useful, I don't know what are your ways of uploading and I don't wanna make fun of you, but it's kinda weird doing that, it's OK for me if it's OK for you :)
Do you have an updated video for this one? Because i've just downloaded Handbrake and there's no Advanced section
You have a nice collection of games
How does your blue yeti sound so good? I have one and it doesn't sound as good
Really helpful thank you so much pal
This guy didnt tell to check the option "deinterlace" with decomb the image will look ugly.
anoname if your source file is interlaced then yes youd be right
but lol interlaced video went extinct like 17 years go
I assume its because this tutorial is really old, but I did exactly what you did, and it took ages to convert a 3m video, and the file turned out 100MB bigger.
@RUSHMID .... You should do a test run on a smaller video file just to get the "settings" right first before starting on the "real" project. And unfortunately, I haven't found a proper setting yet. All my MP4 video files aren't really getting compressed much. Changing the CF value looks like it helps the most.
I just decided to stick to the normal settings and that worked.
MeGUI

Virustotal scanner online free
www.virustotal.com/
I know this detects something.
